The Bladetongue is a Hardmode autoswinging sword that inflicts the Ichor debuff for 5–9 seconds upon striking an enemy and fires an ichor stream at a random angle in front of the player. The ichor stream deals 70% base damage and knockback (38 base damage and a knockback of 4.025 (Average)),[1] pierces up to 5 enemies, and also inflicts the Ichor debuff for 3–7 seconds. The ichor stream can bounce on blocks up to 3 times and disappears either on hitting the fourth block or after approximately 2 seconds. The Bladetongue can be rarely obtained by fishing in the Crimson biome in any layer.
It is the Crimson counterpart to the Corruption's Toxikarp and the Hallow's Crystal Serpent.
Its best modifier is Legendary.
Notes
- Similar to The Horseman's Blade and Bee Keeper, the Bladetongue only creates projectiles when the sword strikes an enemy. This is unlike most other projectile swords, which fire projectiles regardless of whether or not an enemy is hit.
- Among the projectile melee weapons, these three are sometimes considered "true" melee weapons, since the player still needs to move into melee range in order to deal damage.
- The Bladetongue fires one ichor stream each time it hits an enemy (with the sword itself), i.e., hitting three enemies in a single swing will cause the sword to fire three streams in total.
- The sword itself also inflicts the Ichor debuff and can be used in conjunction with other weapon imbuements from flasks.
Trivia
History
- Desktop 1.4.4:
- Ichor Shot pierce count reduced from unlimited to 5 hits.
- Projectile now inflicts static immunity, meaning it will no longer interfere with other sources of piercing damage.
