The Bloody Machete is a rare and unique boomerang-type weapon that has a 1/2000 (0.05%) chance of being dropped by any weak enemy during the Halloween seasonal event. When thrown, it falls downward after reaching a maximum range, and it returns to the thrower upon impacting a block or enemy. Its physics are similar to the Magic Dagger, but it must return to the player before being thrown again. It inflicts melee damage, rather than magic or ranged damage.
Its best modifier is Godly or Demonic. Both modifiers increase the average damage output by the same amount. However, Ruthless might be preferred if the player already has very high critical strike chance.
Notes
- At the correct angle, its maximum horizontal range is 46 feet, or 23 tiles.
Tips
- Using the Goblin Army is a good way to farm this item, as most of the enemies qualify for its drop and they spawn constantly.
- Another way to farm this item, as with all rare drops, is to kill enemies during a Blood Moon. A Water Candle and Battle Potion will increase the spawn rate even more.
- It lasts exactly 60 seconds after being thrown.
- Like all boomerangs, the Bloody Machete can pierce an unlimited number of enemies when returning to the player. This is best utilized by throwing the weapon diagonally upwards, as it falls downwards after reaching maximum range, and proves useful during pre-Hardmode invasion events such as the Blood Moon, Goblin Army, Slime Rain, and Old One's Army.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) During Halloween seasons, it is a very powerful weapon when obtained early on, outperforming other early-game boomerangs until the Thorn Chakram is obtained:
- The Shroomerang and Ice Boomerang have higher base damage, but the Bloody Machete performs better in both short-ranged and long-ranged combat due to its faster use time and projectile speed.
- While the Trimarang may have better DPS in long-ranged combat, the Bloody Machete has better accuracy (faster projectile) and can be used as a piercing weapon.
Trivia
- This is the iconic weapon of Jason Voorhees, the hockey-mask-wearing serial killer from the American horror film series Friday the 13th. However, Jason mostly uses it in melee combat, whereas in Terraria, the machete is thrown.
