The Blowgun firing Seeds at a Target Dummy.

The Blowgun is a pre-Hardmode ranged weapon that auto-fires Seeds and darts as ammunition, and is a stronger version of the Blowpipe. When a Blowgun is in a player's inventory, there is a chance that any vegetation growing on normal grass, in Clay Pots, and in Planter Boxes(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) will yield some Seeds. Flowers typically drop 4 Seeds at a time, while tall grass typically drops 1–2 Seeds. The Blowgun can be purchased from the Witch Doctor for 5 GC.

Its best modifier is Unreal.

Notes

  • The Seeds used by the Blowgun cannot be planted. Conversely, seeds that can be planted cannot be used as ammo for the Blowgun.
  • (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) It does not receive any specialized boosts from the Shroomite armor headpieces, though it still receives the stealth boost.
  • (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) It receives boosts from the Shroomite Helmet.

Tips

  • In early Hardmode, the Blowgun and Blowpipe are useful for firing Cursed or Ichor Darts. While the Blowgun is stronger overall, the Blowpipe fires faster and can be obtained without a Witch Doctor.
    • Cursed Darts deal decent damage and the necessary Cursed Flames can be obtained in the surface Corruption.
    • Ichor Darts are among the first items that can inflict the handy Ichor debuff. The Ichor needed to craft the darts can only be obtained in the Underground Crimson, though, an area that might be challenging at that stage of the game.

Trivia

  • It looks very similar to the Blowpipe, but has a red ribbon on the top and is flared on one end.
  • The Witch Doctor uses the Blowgun to defend himself against nearby enemies.
