(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) The Leaf Crystal bonus from a full set of Chlorophyte armor triggered using

Shark.
(Old-gen console and 3DS versions) The Leaf Crystal bonus from a full set of Chlorophyte armor triggered using
The Undertaker and attacking a
Skeleton.
Chlorophyte armor is a Hardmode armor set available after defeating all three mechanical bosses. It can be considered a partial upgrade of Hallowed armor, granting more defense and being geared more towards high ranged and magic damage output.
The set consists of the Chlorophyte Plate Mail and Chlorophyte Greaves, as well as three different headpiece variants: the Chlorophyte Mask, Chlorophyte Helmet, and Chlorophyte Headgear, geared towards melee, ranged, and magic damage respectively.
Equipping the full set causes a Leaf Crystal to permanently appear over the player's head, automatically attacking enemies via a ranged projectile that costs no mana or ammunition.
- On the
Desktop version,
Console version, and
Mobile version, the Leaf Crystal's projectile is a green, laser-like bolt of energy that instantaneously hits its target and deals 100 base damage[1] and inflicts a knockback of 10 (Extremely strong)[2].
- On the
Old-gen console version and Nintendo 3DS
version, the projectile is a green leaf that travels from the Leaf Crystal to the target. It deals (Old-gen console version) 50 / (3DS version) 40 base damage and inflicts a knockback of (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 5 (Average).
A full set of Chlorophyte armor requires 54 Chlorophyte Bars, or (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 270 / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 324 Chlorophyte Ore. Crafting the full set with every helmet type requires 78 bars ((Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 390 / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 468 ore).

Notes
- The Leaf Crystal is capable of firing two separate simultaneous volleys of projectiles. It is possible for both volleys to target the same enemy.
- One volley targets the nearest enemy within 43.75 tiles[3] on its own. It requires a clear line-of-sight, but can still travel through blocks if it misses or if the player hides behind cover right before the volley is shot. This volley has a cooldown of (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 0.67 seconds[4] / (Old-gen console version) 0.83 seconds[5] / (3DS version) 1 second[6].
- A second volley activates when an enemy ((Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) only within 135 tiles[7]) takes damage from other sources first (e.g. from a player attack, or from lava, a minion, a trap, etc). This volley will target enemies through blocks, and the projectile will travel through blocks to reach the target. This volley has a cooldown of (Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions) 0.83 seconds[8] / (3DS version) 1 second[9].
- The Leaf Crystal has the following properties:
- When firing, it launches a projectile moving in a straight line and does not home in or track targets. (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) As the projectile travels only at a moderate velocity, it will often miss targets that move around a lot, such as Wandering Eyes.
- (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) The Leaf Crystal will instantly fire its first volley when it is summoned. The player can quickly switch one of the armor pieces with other armor to fire the projectile at a high rate.
- In PvP, only the second volley will target players (i.e., they need to take damage from another source first for the Leaf Crystal to target them).
- The Leaf Crystal emits a small amount of green light.
- It does not benefit from damage-increasing bonuses (e.g. accessories) and cannot deal critical hits.
- It does not target critters directly but can still damage them if they happen to be in its path.
- The Leaf Crystal is not affected by Critter Shampoo(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), despite behaving similarly to other set bonus summons such as the Stardust Guardian(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).
- If a full set of Chlorophyte armor is equipped, it will display a dark pulsating effect. This only occurs if no vanity is covering it or it is equipped as vanity itself.
Tips
- The Leaf Crystal can be very useful for farming certain enemies while inactive, for example in search of rare drops and Biome Keys.
- Chlorophyte armor has unusually high classless offensive bonuses, second only to Crystal Assassin armor. Due to this, it is viable to use ranged and magic weapons while wearing the Chlorophyte Mask, which has the benefit of providing far better defense than other pre-Plantera ranged and magic armors.
- Despite Chlorophyte armor's upsides, it may be advantageous to avoid upgrading from whatever previous armor the player was using, for a multitude of reasons:
- Hallowed armor proves to be a superior option in case a more defensive playstyle is preferred, as Chlorophyte armor's set bonus is more offensive in comparison. The Hallowed armor enacts the Holy Protection buff which grants the player immunity to the next attack from enemies whereas Chlorophyte's set bonus acts as a sentry tower to fight for them.
- In case the player did not use the Hallowed armor, it might be advantageous to stick to Adamantite armor if they are a mage, and Frost armor if they prefer ranged or melee. The former's mana cost reduction bonus might prove more useful than the Leaf Crystal's extra damage depending on the weapon chosen, meanwhile, other stat bonuses of the sets are almost the same. As for the other two classes, Frost armor's Frostbite can prove to be a more reliable source of extra damage than the Crystal's shots, which can also be spread across multiple enemies. The Frost armor also offers a higher increase to damage and provides a bonus to melee attack speed.
- Melee players have the option to go straight for Turtle armor, which serves as a defensive alternative to the more offensive-oriented Chlorophyte set.
- In case the player decides not to skip this armor on
Desktop,
Console, and
Mobile, it can later be de-crafted via Shimmer into the Chlorophyte Bars needed for the Spectre, Shroomite, and Turtle armor sets.
Trivia
- The Chlorophyte Mask used to have the highest total melee DPS bonuses of any head slot item, but as of 1.4.0.1(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), the Solar Flare Helmet gives a better DPS.
- The Chlorophyte armor offers the highest universal critical strike chance bonus of any armor set in the game.
- Despite its set bonus being very similar to summoning weapons, there is no summoner helmet variant.
History
- Desktop 1.4.4.8: Fixed an issue where the fire cooldown time of the Leaf Crystal's first volley was inadvertently reset when swapping between armor.
- Desktop 1.4.4:
- The Leaf Crystal's projectile is now an instantaneous bolt of energy, dramatically reducing its likelihood of missing.
- Now has a distance limit for how far it will fire when triggered by hitting an NPC (previously it could be significantly off screen).
- Desktop 1.4.1: Decreased the cooldown of the Leaf Crystal's first volley from 0.83 seconds to 0.67 seconds.
- Desktop 1.3.0.1: Increased the Leaf Crystal's damage from 50 to 100 and its knockback from 5 to 10.
- Desktop 1.2.3: Decreased the cooldown of both of the Leaf Crystal's volleys from 1 second to 0.83 seconds. Increased its damage from 40 to 50.
- Console 1.06: The Leaf Crystal set bonus shoots faster and does more damage now.
- Mobile 1.2.11212: The Leaf Crystal set bonus shoots faster and does more damage now.
