Thanks again for freeing me from my curse. Felt like something jumped up and bit me.

The Clothier
The Clothier is an NPC vendor who mainly sells vanity items. He will move in once the following criteria have been met:
He is the same character as the Old Man who guards the Dungeon before Skeletron is defeated. After defeating Skeletron, the Old Man is freed from his curse, and he disappears from the Dungeon's entrance. His clothes are no longer tattered, his eyes have turned from red to blue, and he is wearing a Red Hat and scarf. Equipping the Clothier Voodoo Doll allows the player to attack and kill the Clothier (similar to the Guide Voodoo Doll) with any damage-inflicting item. Doing so at night re-summons Skeletron, but killing the Clothier without the Clothier Voodoo Doll equipped (such as by using the Flymeal on its own) will not summon the boss.
The Clothier will defend himself against nearby enemies by firing shadowflame skull projectiles that damage and inflict the Shadowflame debuff on enemies for 5–10 seconds.[2] He deals 16 / 24 / 28 damage at the start of the game, and gains various stat boosts as the player progresses.[1]

Shimmered form
When submerged in Shimmer, the Clothier will transform into his Shimmered form. This has no impact on gameplay or dialogue and is only a visual change. He can be returned to his classic look by submerging him in Shimmer again.
Tips
- Placing a shallow lava pit in the floor of the Clothier's house (e.g. by pouring one Lava Bucket into an 8- or 9-tile long horizontal recession of one tile height) will cause the Clothier to die and respawn often, leaving behind the Red Hat each time, which can be sold for 2 SC each.
- However, it is more lucrative to fight Skeletron by using a Clothier Voodoo Doll to kill the Clothier at night, which causes Skeletron to spawn. Skeletron drops 5 GC / 12 GC50 SC when defeated, not accounting for the other drops that can be sold.

Trivia
- Most of the Clothier's dialogues refer to movies starring the American actor and filmmaker Tom Hanks, namely Cast Away, Forrest Gump, The Ladykillers, Apollo 13, A League of Their Own, and The Polar Express.
- One of the possible names for the Clothier is James. This is a reference to Terraria YouTuber James Benett, who is better known as ChippyGaming and uses the Clothier as his avatar.
- The Clothier appears to want to eat the Truffle. This can be seen in the Truffle's quote, "Everyone in this town feels a bit off. I woke up to the clothier chewing on my foot last night." and the Clothier's quote, "I'll give you a discount on your wears if you can convince <name of Truffle> to come over for a...sizing."
- This is further confirmed by the Clothier loving to live near the Truffle, while the Truffle dislikes being a neighbor of the Clothier.
- Since NPCs charge lower prices when NPCs they like are nearby, this means the Clothier will keep his promise if the player follows through with his request.
- The quote "I keep having vague memories of tying up a woman and throwing her in a dungeon." is a reference to the fact that the Bound Mechanic is found in the Dungeon. This implies that he, while possessed by Skeletron, was responsible for the act.
- This is further confirmed by the Clothier's confused hatred of the Mechanic with him having very little memory of what happened before.
- The quote "That Red Hat of yours looks familiar..." is a reference to the player murdering him for the hat, as that is the only way to obtain it legitimately. Additionally, this quote will always override all others as long as the hat is on.
- This may also suggest that the Clothier may have an awareness of his previous self. He is one of the only two NPCs to say something like this, the other being the Guide with the line "I wonder why my predecessor spontaneously burst into flames. Hopefully it doesn't happen to me...".
- On a similar note, the Clothier and the Guide are also the only two NPCs that can summon a boss when killed and have their own voodoo dolls.
- The
Bestiary entry for the Clothier: "Once trapped under a curse, the Clothier is the master of thread. If it's fashion that's desired, he's the man! He talks in a familiar way."
