Cobwhip against a Skeleton and a group of Target Dummies. Notice the released spider.

The Cobwhip is a pre-Hardmode whip with a tag effect of +3 damage, and it has a 60% multihit penalty. On hit, it also releases a small spider that lasts for 3 seconds, which repeatedly deals 2 damage on contact and has 30 armor penetration, but does not inflict knockback. If a spider already exists, Cobwhip hits will refresh its duration instead of releasing a new one.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes

  • The spider applies 20 ticks[1] of local invincibility frames on hit, meaning it can hit for up to 3 times per second.[2]
  • The spider does not benefit from whip tag effects and ignores the player's prioritized target.
  • The spider can target enemies within a 28.125-tile distance.[3]

Trivia

  • Unlike the Spider Staff's minions, the Cobwhip spider can not climb background or latch into enemies.
