(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) The player using dash ability from the Shield of Cthulhu to damage a Target Dummy.
Not to be confused with Sprinting accessories.
Dashing is an ability which allows the player to quickly travel a short distance when double-tapping ◀ Left or ▶ Right. Dashing gives the player a sudden increase in horizontal momentum, which can be used to accelerate low-acceleration Mounts such as the Blessed Apple to high speeds much faster, trigger sprinting or evade attacks during fight (especially during boss fights).
There are 5 items that grant this ability.

Tips
- On the
Mobile version, one relatively easy way to perform dash is to double-tap the leftmost or rightmost part of the movement virtual joystick.
- On the Nintendo
version, shifting the circle pad twice in the preferred direction works as it would on any other version, but this can be tedious and/or tiring. An alternative that works as long as a grappling hook is in the player's inventory is to press A while moving the circle pad from its center position to perform a dash. Note that this will also fire said grappling hook.
- Players can dash to boost themselves to the maximum sprint speed provided by their sprinting accessories. This also works with Asphalt Blocks, or mounts like the Unicorn Mount if the mount is summoned immediately following the dash.
- Some mounts will release glowing particles when summoned. If they are summoned during Shield of Cthulhu's dash, the particles will keep their momentum, flying forward before falling downwards, which can be helpful for exploring caves.
- While dashing towards any solid wall, the player can tap the opposite direction as their character comes in contact to perform a wall bounce, conserving speed and instantly changing directions. The directional key does not need to be pressed at the exact moment the character comes in contact with the wall, but must be held as they do.
- Dash items may not be preferred in situations that require precise movement or frequent move inputs, as accidentally triggering the dash will lead to unwanted results. Some situations include:
