Defender Medal

Defender Medals are a form of currency used to purchase items from the Tavernkeep. They are obtained by completing waves, beginning with the third, in the Old One's Army event, dropped by the Eternia Crystal at the end of each wave. Betsy's Expert Mode Treasure Bag also rewards 30–49 Defender Medals when opened. In addition, the player can obtain 10 Defender Medals by talking to the Tavernkeep and selecting the "Eternia Crystal" option, but this can only be done once per character.

Notes
- In Multiplayer, each player picks up a separate stack of Defender Medals from the Eternia Crystal, similar to how Treasure Bags work in Expert Mode.
Tips
- Purchasing items and immediately selling them back to the Tavernkeep is a good way to turn Defender Medals into coins. The most efficient items to sell are Tier 2 sentries (Tier 1 sentries if a mechanical boss has not been defeated). Defender Medal prices do not change with happiness, while the prices for selling the items back is based on buy price, so the Tavernkeep should be made as unhappy as possible (such as by making him homeless) for maximum profit.
- Researching Defender Medals allows Journey Mode players to get a major head start on higher tiers of the Old One's Army, as they are able to get the best possible gear as soon as the difficulty increases.
Trivia
- Purchasing one of every item available for Defender Medals requires
11500000*1150.
- Until 1.3.5, items had an unused internal name. The Defender Medal's name was "our first non coin currency!"[1]
