The Enchanted Sword is a pre-Hardmode sword which occasionally fires an Enchanted Beam projectile when swung. It costs no ammunition or mana, deals the same damage as the sword, is not affected by gravity, and dissipates upon hitting an enemy or solid block. Both the sword and its projectiles produce lingering particles that emit large amounts of light.
Sword in Stone
Background Objects
A junk (left) and enchanted (right) sword in stone. Only the right one has a chance to drop the Enchanted Sword.
The Enchanted Sword can be obtained by destroying an "enchanted sword in stone" background object, which can be found in random locations underground and in Enchanted Sword Shrines(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions). Destroying this background object has a (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 49/50 (98%) / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 100% chance to drop an Enchanted Sword. On the Desktop version, Console version, and Mobile version, the Enchanted Sword also has a 1/30 (3.33%) and 1/15 (6.67%) chance to be found in Golden and Titanium Crates respectively.
Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes
An enchanted sword in stone background object in the Enchanted Sword Shrine.
- The Enchanted Beam projectile has a cooldown of 0.75 seconds without modifiers.[1]
- Melee speed will affect the velocity of the Enchanted Beam. Its cooldown will remain unchanged, however.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) There is a small possibility that a world does not contain any Enchanted Sword Shrines. In this case, apart from creating a new world, the player has to fish for Golden or Titanium Crates to obtain an Enchanted Sword.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) The "junk" background object will never be found in Enchanted Sword Shrines, although it can still be generated in other random locations underground.
Tips
- If found early on, the Enchanted Sword can be a powerful early-game weapon, outclassing many pre-Hardmode melee weapons due to its decent damage and projectile, allowing it to contend with a few early-game bosses such as King Slime and the Eye of Cthulhu.
- When attempting to acquire an Enchanted Sword for the Zenith(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), it is more efficient to create a new world and loot its Enchanted Sword Shrines than fish for crates.
- Online listings of world seeds can also be used to guarantee finding an Enchanted Sword Shrine, provided the version is correct.
Trivia
- The concept of a sword being stuck in stone originates from the 12th- or 13th-century poem Merlin by French poet Robert de Boron, in which King Arthur was the only person able to pull a sword from its resting place in a stone. Similar themes have since appeared in other media. The action-adventure video game franchise The Legend of Zelda features the Master Sword, which, in A Link to the Past lies amongst several fakes and must be pulled from a pedestal. Additionally, the Master Sword can also fire sword-shaped beams, but only when its wielder Link's health is full.
- It can be considered a counterpart to the Enchanted Boomerang.
- The Enchanted Sword is one of the very few weapons that can be acquired as physical objects in the game's world, the others being the Terragrim(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), the Water Bolt, and Abigail's Flower(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).
