The Etherian Wyvern is a flying enemy that spawns during the Old One's Army event. It spawns during Tier 1 during waves 4–5, Tier 2 during waves 3–7, and Tier 3 during waves 3–4.
The Etherian Wyvern passes through all solid blocks and flies about three tiles above the player or the Eternia Crystal before diving towards its closest target. This causes it to dip below the surface of blocks, making it somewhat difficult to hit without weapons that can attack through blocks. The Etherian Wyvern can attack approximately once every 1.5 seconds, and periodically lets out a screech as it is diving at a target. Additionally, Betsy can also summon a maximum of nine Tier 3 Etherian Wyverns during her roar attack.
The Etherian Wyvern requires 200 kills to be awarded completion of its corresponding banner, as opposed to the usual 50 kills.
Variants
Notes
- Like many other enemies from the event, its appearance and stats change, depending on which tier of the event is active (see Old One's Army for tier details).
- Unlike the Wyvern and its varieties, the Etherian Wyvern is not segmented and does not use the Worm AI.
- Because it can fly, it will dodge many shots from the Ballista sentry summons, posing a threat to the crystal if there are not any other summons or if the player does not have any Ranged weapons. This makes the Etherian Wyvern a serious threat to melee players early in Tier 1 as there are few melee weapons pre-hardmode that have a ranged attack. However the Ice Blade, Enchanted Sword, yoyos, and boomerangs can be used as effective melee weapons to defeat this enemy.
Trivia
- Despite the similar name, the Etherian Wyvern has a different appearance than the Wyvern.
- The Bestiary entry for the Etherian Wyvern: "Etherian Wyverns come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and behave more like bats than the majestic Wyverns of this world."
