The Flamelash attacking
Target Dummies. Notice how it follows the cursor and deals splash damage through blocks.
The Flamelash is a pre-Hardmode, post-Skeletron wand. When used, it fires a fireball that follows the cursor when ⚒ Use / Attack key is held. If the ⚒ Use / Attack key is released mid-drag, the fireball will be fired in that direction. If the cursor is stationary on release, it is fired directly away from the player. Once it is released, the fireball homes in on nearby enemies and can pierce once, creating a small explosion upon contact with a block or second enemy. It also has a 1/2 (50%) chance of inflicting the On Fire! debuff for 4–8 seconds. The Flamelash has a 1/5 (20%) chance of being found in Shadow Chests in the Underworld, as well as a 1/5 (20%) chance of being found in Obsidian Lock Boxes(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) obtained from Obsidian Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and Hellstone Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).
Its best modifier is Mythical.
Notes
- The fireball lasts for one minute before dissipating.
- The explosion deals damage in a 6×6-tile square centered on the projectile.[1]
- Although the projectile visibly increases in size after hitting the first enemy, the second hit does not inflict additional damage.
- The mana cost is for the initial casting only. Maintaining and directing the projectile does not cost additional mana, and the player will regenerate mana while controlling it.
- The projectile fired by the Flamelash cannot enter water or honey and will dissipate on contact. It can be controlled in lava, however.
- Attempting to use the Flamelash while at least partially submerged in any liquid fails, and does not consume mana. This includes lava.
Tips
- As the fireball emits light and can be controlled, this weapon is a good exploration tool.
- Projectiles can hit a target twice if given enough space; they will pierce the enemy and then circle around to hit it once more.
- The explosion of the projectile can affect enemies through thin walls and doors.
- Using an enemy that is being rapidly moved around by Teleporters (for example, one spawned by statues), the piercing attack can be forced to constantly move around in a circle while trying to home in on the target. This can be repeated many times, allowing the player to "store" massive amounts of damage before summoning a boss.
