The Freeze Bomb being thrown into water.
The Freeze Bomb is an explosive that functions like the Bomb, but its explosion will convert water to Ice Blocks, instead of destroying blocks. The Freeze Bomb has a fuse timer of 3 seconds and its explosion deals only 1 damage to the player who threw it, but no damage to enemies, critters and NPCs.
The Freeze Bomb can be purchased from the Demolitionist for 10 SC at night after the Eye of Cthulhu or King Slime has been defeated.
Notes
- The Freeze Bomb can convert water within a 4.2-tile radius of it into Ice Blocks.[1]
- As a result, it can create a maximum of 57 Ice Blocks if its entire explosion radius is filled with water.
- It does not convert water within tiles that are occupied by any foreground blocks or objects.
- The Freeze Bomb explodes immediately if it touches the surface of water, lava, or honey.[2]
- If it is initially thrown from inside these liquids, it does not explode until it leaves the body of liquid and comes in contact with them again.
- The Freeze Bomb can bounce off the surface of Shimmer, but each bounce will reduce its fuse timer by 1 second. This means it can only bounce off shimmer a maximum of 2 times before exploding.[3]
- It will immediately explode if it is thrown from inside of Shimmer.
- Even if used in evil biomes or The Hallow, the Freeze Bomb will only create pure Ice Blocks.
- The Freeze Bomb is slightly bigger than a full block and as a result, cannot fit through 1-tile wide gaps.[4]
Tips
- A tile does not fully need to be filled with water to turn into Ice, therefore one can spread out water over a large, flat surface before freezing it to make the most out of the water. This is especially useful in Skyblock worlds, where water is hard to obtain.
