The Frozen Zombie (on
Desktop,
Console, and
Mobile) or Zombie Eskimo (on
Old-gen console and 3DS
) is a Zombie variant that only appears on the Surface Snow biome at night. It acts the same as normal Zombies, slowly walking towards the player to deal contact damage, while attempting to navigate around obstacles and only being able to open doors during a Blood Moon. It is differentiated from other Zombies in that it is dressed in a light blue snow suit, which it can drop as armor pieces in the form of the Snow Hood, Snow Coat, and Snow Pants (on
Desktop,
Console, and
Mobile), or Eskimo Hood, Eskimo Coat, and Eskimo Pants (on
Old-gen console and 3DS
).
Like normal Zombies, it has an armed variation in Expert Mode, which can perform a "slashing" attack when close to the player to deal extra damage with increased range.

Trivia
- Prior to 1.4, this enemy was (and on the
Old-gen console version and Nintendo 3DS
version still is) called Zombie Eskimo instead of Frozen Zombie.
- Eskimo is an out-group term that refers to both the Inuit and Yupik peoples, as well as various other nations native to the circumpolar region. The term has many disputed meanings, but in modern day is commonly seen as derogatory or inaccurate, and as such usage in media has dropped. However, it remains unconfirmed if this shift in public opinion was the reason for the name change.
- The
Bestiary entry for the Frozen Zombie: "Zombies found in snow biomes are often found bundled up in winter clothing. It doesn't help them any, they are still dead cold!"
