The Chair is a type of furniture item that can be placed on the ground. They count as a comfort item, which is one of the required elements in order to make a house suitable for an NPC. In combination with a Work Bench or a Table, they also form minor crafting stations.

Players can sit in chairs by using ⚷ Open / Activate on them and get a boost on health regeneration, similar to beds and sofas. NPCs can sit on chairs too.

All chairs are 1 tile wide, 2 tiles high, and must be placed on top of a solid block or platform.

Notes

  • Despite being called the Martian Hover Chair, it cannot be placed in midair.
  • While sitting on a chair, chairs within a maximum of 2 tiles horizontally can also be sat on.
  • Chairs slightly increase health regeneration on top of the bonus from standing still, a feature shared with sleeping in a bed. This can be most easily seen by comparing health regeneration right after standing still, moving, and sitting in a chair.
  • Even though the Dynasty Chair's sprite might seem like it's only 1 tile high, and sitting on it positions the player on a lower level than when sitting on other chairs, it is still 2 tiles high when placed, like any other chair.
  • The Toilet and the Golden toilet also work for crafting purposes with the Work Bench / Table but no other toilets seem to work.

Trivia

  • The Crystal Chair, Sandstone Chair, and Martian Hover Chair seem to be the only chairs with a "backwards" inventory sprite.
  • The Gothic Chair is the only chair found in the Dungeon that is not specific to the Dungeon's color.
  • An NPC and a Town Cat can sit in the same chair at once.
  • The Dynasty Chair is the only chair that NPCs can not sit on, despite it counting for the requirement of a home.

History

  • Desktop 1.4.1.1: Fixed an issue where Town NPCs would try to sit on Dynasty Chairs (they shouldn't be able to).
  • Desktop 1.4.0.1:
    • Skyware Chair item and placed sprites updated.
    • Players can now sit in chairs, which provides a small boost to health regeneration.
    • Spider, Lesion, Bamboo, Sandstone, Solar, Vortex, Nebula and Stardust Chairs added.
  • Desktop 1.2.4: Palm Wood, Boreal Wood and Slime Chairs added. Updated graphics for Chairs and Tall Torches to fix some issues.
  • Desktop 1.2.3:
    • Living Wood, Lihzahrd, and Skyware chairs made craftable.
    • Crafting stations for older chairs changed.
    • Dynasty Chair, Frozen Chair and its crafting station added.
  • Desktop 1.2.0.3: Bar Stool, Glass, Golden, Honey, and Steampunk Chairs added.
  • Desktop 1.2:
