The Guide to Critter Companionship is a pre-Hardmode tool that prevents the player's attacks from harming critters while inside their inventory. It can be purchased from the Zoologist for 5 GC.

Pressing Open / Activate on the Guide to Critter Companionship in the player's inventory or hotbar will toggle it between the Guide to Critter Companionship and the Guide to Critter Companionship (Inactive), disabling its functions.

Notes

  • While it renders the player unable to damage critters, enemy attacks and environmental hazards such as lava are still completely able to damage and kill them.
  • It does protect critters against player-placed traps.
  • It does not prevent the player from harming Explosive Bunnies, which explode when killed, and spawn naturally in the For the worthy secret seed.
  • The Guide to Critter Companionship will prevent Fallen Stars from killing critters.

Tips

Trivia

  • The book's cover seems to depict a Bunny.
