Jester's Arrows shot from a Wooden Bow and Hallowed Repeater. Note how the weapon with more damage is able to hit more enemies, due to the piercing damage penalty.

The Jester's Arrow is a type of arrow that is unaffected by gravity and can pierce an infinite number of enemies. It emits an ample amount of light when fired, making it useful for lighting up dark areas like caves. When hitting an enemy or block, it vanishes in a shower of non-damaging sparks. In addition to being crafted, Jester's Arrows can be found in Gold Chests in the Underground and Cavern layers.

Jester's Arrows can be considered an upgrade of Unholy Arrows. Their unlimited piercing makes them efficient against enemies with multiple segments such as the Eater of Worlds, and may occasionally render them stronger than otherwise better arrows, such as the Hellfire Arrow.

The damage of a Jester's Arrow decreases by 10% for each target it pierces.

Notes

Jester's Arrows have a duration limit of 2 seconds after being fired and disappear when time is up.
- Since the limit is based on time and not distance, the arrows' range can be extended with the Archery Potion, which directly increases arrow speed. The Magic Quiver, on the other hand, has no effect on the range as it increases arrow speed via the extraUpdates value.

Tips

Jester's Arrows are very useful for finding ores, as their sparkly explosion goes through walls. If one has a lot of Fallen Stars to spend, it may be a good choice to make some of these, especially in Hardmode, when some valuable ores (e.g. Chlorophyte or Adamantite) are difficult to see.
- Otherwise, Glowsticks may be a cheaper alternative.

Trivia

Before the 1.2 update, Jester's Arrows were not craftable, which made them the most difficult arrow to maintain a stockpile of in the game.

History

Desktop version

Desktop 1.4.1:
- Recipe changed back to 10 Wooden Arrows.
- Applies a 10% damage penalty to the next hit for each enemy a projectile pierces.

Desktop 1.3.1: Sprite updated.

Desktop 1.3.0.1:
- Now requires 20 Wooden Arrows to craft.
- Damage increased from 9 to 10.

Desktop 1.2:
- Can now be crafted from 10 Wooden Arrows and 1 Fallen Star.
- Stack limit increased from 250 to 999.
- They also are now much faster and have more range.
