The Jungle Bat is a common bat enemy found only in the Jungle and less commonly in the Underground Jungle. In Expert Mode, it can inflict the Feral Bite debuff. Like most other bats, it cannot enter water.

Notes

  • Jungle Bats and Jungle Slimes are among the few Jungle enemies that do not require Jungle grass blocks to spawn. They only require the player to be within the Jungle biome.[1]

Tips

  • Groups of Jungle Bats can easily overwhelm an unprepared player, so caution should be exercised when entering the Jungle. The numerous pools of water in the Jungle serve as good hiding spots, as the bats cannot enter water. A Breathing Reed helps to prevent drowning.

Trivia

Jungle Bat Unused Frame.png
Unused animation frame
  • Jungle Bats, as well as Cave Bats, Hellbats, and Spore Bats, have an unused frame in the animation that seems to depict a Jungle Bat hanging upside down. This may mean that bats were originally planned to be able to hang on ceilings but that this was later decided against.
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Jungle Bat: "These small, annoying creatures aren't to be underestimated. A deadly end awaits for those swarmed by these fangy rodents."

History

  • Desktop 1.0.5:
    • May no longer enter water and does not make a splash sound when hitting water.
    • Now has a specific death sound effect.
