The Kobold is a Hardmode enemy that spawns during the Old One's Army event. It spawns during Tier 2 during waves 2–7, and Tier 3 during waves 2–5.

When it is near the player or the Eternia Crystal, it will emote a speech bubble with an exclamation mark, light its fuse, and begin screaming while dashing towards the nearest target. When it reaches a target, it kills itself and creates an explosion with a radius similar to that of a Grenade. The detonation will not destroy tiles, also similar to a Grenade.

Like other members of the Old One's Army, if a Kobold's target is too far away or obstructed, it will enter an ethereal state, allowing it to float upwards and pass through tiles. Kobolds are also unaffected by Teleporters or Lava, and will take half damage from Traps.

The Kobold requires 200 kills to be awarded completion of its corresponding banner, as opposed to the usual 50 kills.

Trivia

  • Kobolds are mythical humanoid creatures stemming from Germanic folklore, commonly identified as ambivalent beings that serve as helpful houseworkers but are also known to be mischievous, malevolent tricksters who pull pranks and cause disorder in the places that they inhabit, such as underground mines.
  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Kobold: "Rigged with an explosive payload, Kobolds have no regard for safety. They eagerly blow themselves up, hoping to take their foes with them."
