The Maggot Zombie is a pre-Hardmode enemy and a Zombie variant that spawns in the Graveyard mini-biome. When a Maggot Zombie is killed, up to three Maggots will be spawned. Maggot Zombies have a more dreadful and rotten appearance than other Zombies, and is implied that it is missing an eye, due to its sprite depicting a Maggot crawling through it.

Notes

• Despite spawning Maggots on death and being relatively different from other Zombies, there is no Maggot Zombie Banner; instead, the ordinary Zombie Banner offers a buff against the Maggot Zombie.

Trivia

• The Maggots spawned upon death and the name in general could be a reference to how flies and maggots feast on rotten objects.
• Its face and head somewhat resemble an insect's head.

• The Bestiary entry for the Maggot Zombie: "Wanders aimlessly to infest the living with undeath, unaware of its own maggoty infestation."
