A player using the Magic String with a Counterweight.

The Magic String is a Hardmode, post-one mechanical boss accessory that can be purchased from the Skeleton Merchant for 1 PC. While equipped, all yoyos and Counterweights are thrown when Use / Attack is released, instead of being retracted. The released projectiles deal 75% of their initial damage and knockback, and can bounce and roll on blocks and platforms.[1]

Notes

  • The released yoyo projectiles can pierce up to 3-6 targets before disappearing, while the released counterweight projectiles do not pierce.[1]
  • The released projectiles dissipate upon colliding with blocks from sides.[2]
  • The released Terrarian projectile inflicts 10 ticks[3] of static immunity frames on hit, while all other released yoyos inflict 10 ticks of global invincibility frames.[4]
  • Terrarian and Hive-Five still keep their unique projectile emitting abilities after being released.
  • The released yoyo projectiles bounce upwards upon hitting enemies.[5]
