Mushroom staff against a Skeleton and a Blue Slime.

The Mushroom Staff is a pre-Hardmode, post-evil boss summon weapon that summons a Mushroom Boi minion. It runs and jumps towards enemies, dealing contact damage. If the nearest target is too far away, the Mushroom Boi will dive towards it, creating a red explosion on impact that deals 133% of the weapon's damage (10 base damage) and 300% of its knockback (base knockback of 6 (Average)), and then teleport back to the player.

Its best modifier is Fabled.

Notes

  • The Mushroom Boi inflicts 18 ticks[1] of local invincibility frames upon hit, meaning it can hit for up to 3.33 times per second.[2]
  • The Mushroom Boi can target enemies within a 50-tile distance.[3]
  • The dive has a cooldown of 2.25 seconds after the impact and can happen if any of following conditions are fulfilled:[4]
    • The Mushroom Boi is trying to reach an enemy that is more than 10 tiles above it.
    • The Mushroom Boi is trying to return towards the player due to being too far away. It can enter this returning mode if its vertical distance from the player is more than 18.75 tiles or if its total distance is more than 31.25 tiles, and only when it does not have a valid target. If Mushroom Boi reaches the player while they are airborne, it will continue to stay in the returning mode until the player lands.

Tips

  • Unlike most pre-Hardmode minions which use static invincibility, the Mushroom Bois use local invincibility, meaning that their damage output will linearly scale with how many Mushroom Bois are summoned.

Trivia

  • This item is part of a crossover with the game Dead Cells.
  • Its tooltip is a reference to get fixed boi, the code that unlocks the Zenith special seed.
