The Musket attacking a Target Dummy.

The Musket is a pre-Hardmode gun. It will always drop from the first Shadow Orb destroyed in a Corruption world (along with 100 Musket Balls) and has a 1/5 (20%) chance of dropping from destroyed Shadow Orbs afterward. It also has a 1/5 (20%) chance of being obtained from Corrupt(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and Defiled Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) fished in the Corruption. The Musket has a base 11% critical strike chance as opposed to the usual 4%.

Its Crimson counterpart is The Undertaker. Compared to The Undertaker, the Musket deals much higher damage per shot at the cost of a slower rate of fire.

Its best modifier is Unreal.

  • If the player wishes to acquire the Musket through fishing, using a Crate Potion will increase the odds of catching a crate by 10%.
  • The Musket's high damage early in the game, along with its slow fire rate, helps to conserve ammo, practice precise aiming, and it can be used to effectively kill the Eaters of Souls in the Corruption.
  • Unlike the Crimson's Undertaker, the Musket is a bit more effective against the Corruption's Eaters of Souls, as a critical hit can normally kill any Eater in one shot. The Undertaker, however, deals significantly less damage than the Musket and is therefore slightly less effective against the highly knockback-resistant Crimson enemies.
  • Despite being the first gun most players will obtain in a Corruption world, the Musket is strong enough to easily defeat all bosses before the Wall of Flesh, including the Eater of Worlds. Its high damage helps bypass the defense of Queen Bee and Skeletron better than most faster-firing, lower-damage weapons obtained in pre-Hardmode.

  • The Musket has the second-highest base damage of all pre-Hardmode ranged weapons, only beaten by the Star Cannon.
  • The Musket's in-game mechanics differ greatly from how these firearms work in real life. In Terraria, the weapon has a decent fire rate and (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) autofire, while trained soldiers of the 18th century usually took around 12–15 seconds to reload and fire a musket due to only holding a single round, resulting in large pauses between shots.
  • The newer sprite (updated in 1.3.1(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)) resembles a musket with a longer stock and shorter barrel.
  • The Musket is one of the 11 guns in Terraria based on a real gun, the others being the Chain Gun, Flintlock Pistol, Handgun, Quad-Barrel Shotgun(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), Red Ryder(Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions), Revolver(Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions), Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, Tactical Shotgun, and Uzi.
  • The Musket's tooltip is a direct reference to the opening lyric of the song "Minutemen" from the 1999 album Speakeasy, the third full-length studio album of the Christian rock band Stavesacre.
