Not the Bees is a special world seed. It generates a world dominated by bee-themed biomes and bee-related items and structures.
While generating
- All generation descriptions say "Generating bees".
- The time required to generate this seed is also extraordinarily long, possibly due to the fact that the world is generated first (as normal) and then converted to the seed's terrain thereafter.
Spawn
- The Merchant replaces the Guide as the starting NPC. As both he and the player spawn in the Jungle, he will also sell the Furnace and Jungle Torches.[1]
World generation
- Most of the world is replaced with the Jungle biome, with Bee Hives and Honey Blocks found in abundance. See below for a full list of replaced tiles.
- Larvae will often generate outside of Bee Hives.
- The Dungeon is painted orange and the Jungle Temple is painted green. Mud Blocks with Jungle Grass can spawn inside, as can Mahogany trees. In the Dungeon entrance variant containing stained glass windows, the windows are now formed of Hive Walls.
- Water Chests and trees can generate in honey, and Fallen Logs can generate on any surface tile.
- The Ice biome will spawn under both Oceans. Water will generate as usual in these biomes. The Shimmer will be found surrounded by Snow Blocks rather than Stone Blocks.
- When entering Hardmode, the two diagonal stripes of the new biomes generated will replace all Hive blocks to the respective Ebonstone, Crimstone, or Pearlstone Block and all Crispy Honey Blocks will be replaced by Hardened Ebonsand, Hardened Crimsand, or Hardened Pearlsand Blocks, respectively. Note this only affects the initial replacement and none of the biomes will spread to Hive or Crispy Honey Blocks.
Replaced tiles
- All water outside of the center 1/6 of the world is replaced by honey, except for the Snow biomes beneath Oceans and the entire Ocean on the side of the Dungeon.
- All Forest trees, Living Wood, Leaf Blocks, and vines are converted into their respective Jungle variants, unless on Floating Islands.
- Rarely, parts of the world that spawn above the minimum level needed for Floating Islands will also not be converted, leaving hilltops of dirt above a line.
- All Slush blocks are replaced with Honey Blocks.
- All Dirt Blocks are initially replaced with Mud Blocks, unless part of Floating Islands or near the Ocean on the side of the Dungeon.
- Grass types are replaced with Jungle grass above the lava layer of the Caverns and with Mushroom grass below the lava layer. Corresponding grass is grown on all exposed Mud Blocks.
- Because of this, an enormous Glowing Mushroom biome will appear in the lava layer where the original Jungle was.
- Stone is replaced with Hive blocks above the lava layer and with Crispy Honey Blocks below the lava layer. This replacement does not occur in the area directly surrounding the Ocean on the Dungeon side.
- Likewise with Ebonsand, Ebonsandstone, Hardened Ebonsand, Purple Ice, Crimsand, Crimsandstone, Hardened Crimsand, and Red Ice blocks.
- Only Sand Blocks within the Ocean biome opposite of the Dungeon are replaced with Honey Blocks.
- Likewise, only Hardened Sand and Sandstone Blocks within the Ocean biomes are replaced with Hive blocks.
- Jungle grass that would be within 20 tiles (40 ft) of Ebonstone or Crimstone blocks is converted into Corrupt Jungle grass or Crimson Jungle grass.
- Hive and Mud Blocks underneath the Oceans, in the Cavern layer, and above the lava layer, are replaced with Snow and Ice Blocks. In the upper half, Hive Blocks become Snow Blocks and Mud Blocks become Ice Blocks, and vice versa for the bottom half.
- Copper Ore, Tin Ore, Iron Ore, and Lead Ore in the approximate lower half of the world are replaced with Dirt Blocks.
- Silt and Clay Blocks in the approximate lower half of the world are replaced with Stone Blocks.
Removals
- The Oasis and glowing moss biomes will not generate.
- Campsites, gemstone caves, moss chambers, and Thin Ice patches will not generate.
- Lava traps and Geysers will not generate.
- Boulder traps that use Active Stone Blocks will not generate, but Boulder traps that use Actuators will still generate.
- Shell Piles and Moss will not generate.
Mechanics
Changes
- Only half of fishing attempts in Jungle Biome are considered as Jungle fishing attempts.
- Only half of fishing attempts in honey are considered as honey fishing attempts.
Enemies
Spawning
- Hornets can spawn above the surface layer.
Tips
Main article: Guide:Not the Bees
- There are few Stone Blocks available early on, so purchasing Wooden Arrows and a Furnace from the Merchant is advised.
- Snow Flinx can still be found deep below the outer edges of the world where Snow and Ice Blocks generate (since the number of Snow-related tiles there is sufficient to form an Ice biome). Deerclops can also be summoned in this area.
Trivia
- The phrase not the bees references the "NOT THE BEES!" meme which originated from the 2006 horror film The Wicker Man, which also inspired an eponymous achievement.
