Orichalcum Ore belongs to the second tier of the early Hardmode ores. Upon the second altar broken, either it or Mythril Ore can spawn in the cavern layer. Mining Orichalcum Ore requires a Cobalt/Palladium Pickaxe or better.

As with all early Hardmode ores, decreasing quantities of the ore spawn with every third altar broken afterwards, it is immune to explosives, and it can be obtained from Hardmode crates.

Trivia

  • In real life, orichalcum is a legendary metal mentioned in several ancient writings. It was described by the Athenian philosopher Plato in his work Critias to have been mined in the lost city of Atlantis. It is suspected to have been a sort of alloy involving copper.
    • While the in-game color is magenta, orichalcum is speculated to be a more reddish hue. It was likely made this color to avoid confusion with Palladium or Adamantite Ore.
  • The placed sprite of Orichalcum Ore appears to depict waves of flowing thick ooze. This matches the theme of Orichalcum's "brick" variant being Bubblegum Block.
