Explosion

The Power Bomb is a Hardmode explosive that is a direct upgrade to the Bomb. It explodes 5 seconds after being thrown, and breaks nearly all blocks, background walls, and furniture within a radius of 9 tiles. Unlike other explosives, it can additionally destroy the early Hardmode ores, although it still cannot destroy other explosion-proof objects. The explosion also deals 200 damage to all enemies, critters, and players (but not NPCs) within 8.75 tiles horizontally and vertically of the Power Bomb.

Notes

  • In addition to other blocks normally destroyed by explosives, the Power Bomb can also destroy the following ores:[1]
  • The Power Bomb is slightly larger than a full block and as a result, it cannot fit through 1-tile wide gaps.[2]
  • The two functions of Power Bomb have distinct and slightly different areas of effect.
    • Damaging entities: The explosion covers a 17.5×17.5-tile square centered on the Power Bomb, i.e. 8.75 tiles in the four directions.[3]
    • Destroying tiles: The explosion covers a circle with a diameter of 18 tiles centered on the Power Bomb, i.e. 9 tiles in all directions.[4]

Tips

  • Since the Power Bomb can destroy all three tiers of early-Hardmode ores, the player can save resources by using Power Bombs exclusively instead of upgrading their pickaxe.
  • Compared to Dynamite, the Power Bomb has a larger explosion size, can destroy early-Hardmode ores, is more expensive to get, and deals less damage.
