The Reindeer Bells are a Hardmode, post-Plantera mount summon item. It summons the rideable Rudolph character which greatly speeds a player's movement and adds the ability to fly. It has a chance of between 1.12% and 1.66% (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) / 0.56% and 0.83% (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) to be dropped by the Ice Queen during or after wave 15 of the Frost Moon event.
Similar to the Hoverboard, flight height can be constrained by holding the ▼ Down key in addition to the ↷ Jump key, so movement will be horizontal only.
Notes
- When the buff is active, fall damage is canceled.
- Flying left or right allows Rudolph to climb to much greater heights than flying directly upwards.
- The top running speed of Rudolph is 61 mph, reached after 2.222 seconds.[1]
- Rudolph's nose gives off a little bit of light.
- Rudolf's maximum flight time is calculated according to the following formula: flightTime = 160 + abs(xVelocity). That's to say, under normal conditions Rudolf's maximum flight time can reach up to 23 seconds (1380 ticks[2]).[3]
Achievements
Tips
- Rudolph allows the character to run and fly faster than the maximum speed attainable from accessory items, and also stacks with them. It is faster than most wings, even when running on the ground.
- Riding Rudolph causes slightly inconsistent behavior when interacting with ground tiles. While on Rudolph, the player will still trigger player-activated pressure plates, but the player will not travel nearly as fast on asphalt as the player would unmounted. In order to obtain maximum speed, the player would have to run down an asphalt runway with movement speed buffs, such as the Panic! buff and Lightning Boots. The runway would transition into a Frozen Slime Block slide where the player could then mount Rudolph and retain the extra movement speed.
Trivia
- Rudolph was the first mount introduced to Terraria.[4]
- When standing still on it for between 15 and 25 seconds, it will start eating off the ground.
- Rudolph and the Minecart are the only mounts available across all platforms for Terraria.

- ↑ A tick is a time unit countable by the software. Most of Terraria's updating logic happens every tick. A tick has the length of 1/60th of a second, hence there are 60 ticks in a second and 3600 ticks in a minute.
