Rocket science gave us Rocket Boots.

— A loading screen Tip

Rocket Boots are a pre-Hardmode accessory that can be purchased from the Goblin Tinkerer for 5 GC. While equipped, they allow the player to hold Jump in midair to fly for a total of 1.17 seconds.[1] While flying, the boots emit visual flame particles that give off a large amount of light.

Flight time is reset immediately when the player lands on any solid object, or latches onto a surface with a hook.

  • If any extra jump accessories are equipped, the extra jump effects will activate first.
  • The flight time is cumulative, which means that it can be broken up into split-second bursts.
  • The flight time cannot be stacked with its upgrades.
  • Rocket Boots have a maximum ascent speed of 38 mph.
  • When paired with wings, the flight of Rocket Boots will be disabled. Instead, it directly adds 0.7 seconds to the wings' flight time.[1]
  • If a full set of Shadow armor, Ancient Shadow armor, or Ancient Cobalt armor is equipped, the jet effect changes to a matching purple color.[2]

History

  • Desktop 1.2.4.1: Fixed bug where Wing time would go into infinity if you held the jump button while standing and having Rocket Boots equipped.
  • Desktop 1.0.5:
    • Rocket Boots no longer use Mana, instead having a fixed use time. Lift speed has been slightly increased to compensate.
    • Wearing full Shadow armor (if the set is showing) makes them emit purple sparks.
