Using the Ruler to attack a Target Dummy.
Ruler measurements. These are activated with the "Ruler On" button.

The Ruler is an item purchased from the Goblin Tinkerer.

On the Desktop version Desktop version, Console version Console version, and Mobile version Mobile version, the Ruler is an autoswinging shortsword and can be purchased for 10. On these versions, the "Ruler On"/"Ruler Off" button in the upper left of the inventory toggles the display of measurement lines for counting blocks while building.

On the Old-gen console version Old-gen console version, the Ruler is an informational accessory which aids the precise placement of blocks, and can be purchased for 1. It displays a grid framework similar to that of the Mechanical Ruler.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes

  • The Ruler swings in bursts of four, meaning that even if the player stops attacking, it will continue swinging until its burst is done. Likewise, trying to swing the Ruler once is impossible, and attempting to do so will result in four swings instead.
  • Although the Ruler's purpose is primarily referential, it can be reforged to have any of the usual accessory modifiers (like with informational accessories).
  • Instead of selling for one fifth of its original buy value like most items, it sells for one third.
  • The Ruler is the only autoswinging shortsword in the game. This along with its high use speed and gold-equivalent damage gives it, ironically, the highest DPS of any shortsword. Despite this, the player will almost invariably have much better weapons by the time the Goblin Tinkerer becomes available, so it still remains relatively useless.
