The Starfury is a pre-Hardmode sword which occasionally summons a star projectile from the sky to the location of the cursor when swung, and costs no ammunition or mana. The star emits light, deals 1.5× the sword's damage (37 base damage) but no knockback.[1] The star can hit up to 2 targets. The star will travel through all blocks until it reaches the lowest empty space at or above the player's cursor, after which it will break on the next block it hits. The Starfury has a 1/4 (25%) chance of being found inside Skyware Chests on Floating Islands, as well as a 1/4 (25%) chance of being obtained from Sky Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and Azure Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).
Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes
- The star projectile has a cooldown of 0.67 seconds with no modifier.
- A small particle effect and the sound for restoring mana will notify the player of a recharged star.
- The star projectile spawns 37.5 tiles above the player and (horizontally) up to 12.5 tiles away from the cursor's location, in the opposite direction the player is facing.[1]
- Therefore, positioning the cursor at the very bottom of the screen will cause the star to fall in a nearly straight line, while positioning at the top of the screen will cause the angle of its trajectory to vary wildly.
- The velocity of the falling star is affected by melee speed. Higher melee speed results in higher velocity.
- As the star projectiles will travel to the lowest cave at or above the cursor, they will travel the farthest if the player's cursor is at the bottom of the screen, lighting up everything above as it falls.
Tips
- The Starfury can be used to reveal caves, as its stars produce light as they fall, can reach any cave visible on-screen, and produce light particles that continue traveling 10 to 35 tiles downward after colliding with blocks.
- The Magma Stone, Flask of Fire, Flask of Cursed Flames, and the set bonus of Frost armor affect the star projectiles, causing them to emit even more light even inside blocks, which can help map solid areas.
- As early as the Starfury can be obtained, it is extremely useful throughout all of pre-Hardmode, and can stay useful later into the game as an exploration tool.
- The stars can hit enemies within blocks as long as there is an on-screen cave below those blocks to target.
- For 1920×1080 resolution, the stars spawn at the top of the screen. Thus, they cannot be used to hit anything above the screen, such as Floating Islands or bosses.
- With correct aim, the Starfury can be used to hit an enemy with the blade and another enemy with the star, or the same enemy twice in one swing.
- Beware when using the Starfury in the Underground Jungle, as it can easily break the Larva in an undiscovered Bee Hive, summoning the Queen Bee.
- If the player plans on crafting the Zenith(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), they should not throw away or sell the Starfury, as it is needed as a crafting ingredient.
Trivia
- The Star Wrath(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) can be considered the Hardmode upgrade to this weapon; unlike the Starfury, however, the Star Wrath's stars cannot pass through solid blocks below a certain height.
- Earlier versions of the Starfury classified it as a magic weapon, which summoned a torrent of stars similar to the Star Wrath. This made it an effective weapon up to and into early Hardmode. This ability was removed and the weapon class changed in the 1.2 update.
- During early testing, Redigit recounts placing the Starfury in an area surrounded by "several screens of spikes", telling the testers that whoever reaches it first could keep it. Whenever a tester would get close, he would teleport them to the Ocean.[2]
- The Starfury appears in the video games Pixel Piracy, Dungeon Defenders 2, and Dead Cells as part of crossovers.
- The Starfury does more damage than the Light's Bane and the Blood Butcherer despite being obtainable earlier in the game.
