The Starfury in use.

The Starfury is a pre-Hardmode sword that has a 1/4 (25%) chance of being found inside Skyware Chests on Floating Islands, as well as a 1/4 (25%) chance of being obtained from Sky Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and Azure Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions). When swung, it occasionally summons a star projectile that falls from the sky to the cursor. The star emits light, deals ×1.5 the weapon's damage (37 base damage) but no knockback, and pierces once. [1] The star will pass through all blocks until it reaches the lowest empty space at or above the cursor, after which it will break on the next block it hits.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes

  • The star projectile fires every 0.67 seconds with no modifier.
  • The star projectile spawns 37.5 tiles above the player and (horizontally) up to 12.5 tiles away from the cursor's location, in the opposite direction the player is facing.[1]
    • Therefore, positioning the cursor at the very bottom of the screen will cause the star to fall in a nearly straight line, while positioning at the top of the screen will cause the angle of its trajectory to vary wildly.
  • The velocity of the falling star is affected by melee speed bonuses.
  • A star is only fired at the start of any given swing. Thus, any melee speed bonus will cause stars to come out every 3rd swing instead of every 2nd swing.

Tips

  • The Starfury can be used to reveal caves, as its stars produce light as they fall, can reach any cave visible on-screen, and produce light particles that continue traveling downward.
  • With correct aim, the Starfury can be used to hit an enemy with the blade and another enemy with the star, or the same enemy twice in one swing.
  • Beware when using the Starfury in the Underground Jungle, as it can easily break the Larva in an undiscovered Bee Hive, summoning the Queen Bee.
  • If using melee speed buffs and only using the star attack, it may be helpful to time swings for when the projectile cooldown ends.
    • Alternatively, a Legendary Starfury will shoot stars at the maximum possible rate when between 39% and 50% melee speed.

Trivia

  • The Star Wrath(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) can be considered the Hardmode upgrade to this weapon.
  • Earlier versions of the Starfury classified it as a magic weapon, which summoned a torrent of stars similar to the Star Wrath. This made it an effective weapon even into early Hardmode. This ability was removed and the weapon class changed in the 1.2 update.
  • During early testing, Redigit recounts placing the Starfury in an area surrounded by "several screens of spikes" and telling the testers that whoever reaches it first could keep it. Whenever a tester got close, he would teleport them to the Ocean.[2]
  • The Starfury appears in the video games Pixel Piracy, Dungeon Defenders 2, and Dead Cells as part of crossovers.
