The Starlight being used to attack Target Dummies.
The Starlight is a Hardmode, post-Plantera melee weapon that rapidly fires short-range light beams, which pierce infinitely. It also has a base 14% critical strike chance as opposed to the usual 4%. The Starlight has a 1/4 (25%) chance of being dropped by the Empress of Light.
Its best modifier is Legendary.
Notes
- The Starlight grants 4 global invincibility frames on hit,[1] meaning that it can hit targets 15 times per second.
- The beams are not able to deal damage to enemies through blocks unless the enemy itself is able to pass through blocks.
- The Starlight's attack speed is not affected by any attack speed bonuses, despite being able to receive modifiers that give attack speed bonuses.
Tips
- The Starlight's high attack speed and pierce make it effective for killing groups of enemies, especially in events.
- The Starlight's high damage at a short range makes it powerful against large, slow-moving enemies and bosses like Plantera, Golem, and Ogres.
- With the Legendary modifier, it is able to reach 1,100 single-target DPS with no additional equipment.
- The Starlight is roughly as powerful as the Solar Eruption within its effective range. While the Starlight's range is much shorter, it is generally much more consistent.
Trivia
- Although the Starlight visually resembles a sword and has a similar attack motion to shortswords, the sword itself does not actually deal damage. For this reason, it is instead classified as a projectile-only melee weapon.
- As the weapons that the Empress of Light drops are based on her attacks, the Starlight seems to be based on her Sun Dance.
- The beams created by the Starlight use the same sprite as those created by the Rainbow Crystal Staff.
- The weapon itself resembles a rapier, a thin sword used for thrusting that was popular in Western Europe.
- Like the Last Prism, the Starlight has secret color themes for developers and beta testers. This is triggered by using a specific set of character names:
