Spawn requirements

Ladybugs seem to spawn relative to wind speed - not specifically to the 'windy day' event. They continue to spawn after the event has ended but windspeed is still high.

They also seem to spawn specifically after a certain time (noon?)

Can anyone confirm this?

I can confirm that they spawn after the windy day event has ended. In fact, I have only seen them spawn after the event but not during it. 68.37.205.51 10:04, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
No you cannot 8.37.205.51|68.37.205.51 People already looked at the code to confirm it that they only spawn during the event. Those ladybugs you probably saw spawned during the event and you only saw them afterwards. You just make random assumptions and didn't even do any useful research for it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.112.67.178 at 21:39, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
These definitely spawn after the event. I have just observed the following: about a minute after the event ended (so around 5:30 PM) I left a world and there had been no ladybugs. I reentered the world and there were about 20 visible from the same place. There's no way I could have missed that many even if critters don't despawn after leaving the world (I'm not that knowledgeable about how this works in Terraria, but I assume they do despawn). I may be a little late to the party, but this should be fairly easy to test, since you can control wind speeds directly in Journey mode. I'll check this out when I get some time. I have a hunch I know what's going on. Edit: And I believe I found the source of the confusion! Despite being rude, the anon is correct that they only spawn during the event, HOWEVER, he's completely wrong about the rest of you just "missing" the ladybugs. The confusion occurred due to the way the event starts and stops. While it starts when the wind reaches 20MPH, it ends when it reaches a lower 16MPH. It seems that there was a slight oversight in how the game handles the music and visuals. Instead of continuing like the event until it reaches 16MPH, it returns them to normal at 20MPH, despite the event still going (mechanic-wise). So even if it doesn't LOOK like the event is still going, it continues until windspeeds drop to 16MPH. This same problem happens with thunderstorms as well. Killing Ladybugs Boosts Rain Chance

I was looking at the code and found out that killing a ladybug will boost the chance for rain to happen for the next 30 seconds. Killing subsequent ladybugs will add 30 more seconds to this boost up to 300 seconds or 5 mins. I can't find anything about this on the Ladybug or Rain page. I searched online and only found a couple of mentions of this mechanic. There's an added 1 in 86400 chance per tick which is roughly 19% chance every 5 mins, which doesn't sound like a lot. Is this worth adding to the wiki? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mhykhol (talk • contribs) at 10:23, March 20, 2022 (UTC)

A mechanic that exists in the source code is always worth adding, no matter how "useless" it may seems. BadPiggy1024 (talk) 11:22, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
