Enchanted Nightcrawlers

Hello editors, I have seen at least 4 different individuals claim that Enchanted Nightcrawlers spawn during Lantern Nights. I believe this to be false, as the devs specifically stated in section E of the changelog that: Enchanted Nightcrawlers can now spawn naturally during meteor showers. Has anyone actually encountered a Nightcrawler during a Lantern Night? I have not witnessed either event for myself, so if someone has proof I will assume I am mistaken. Please note that a Lantern Night has the floaty orange things, whereas a Meteor Shower is specifically the event with more fallen stars--don't mix 'em up! -- Breathlessblizzard (talk) 02:07, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Response from another editor: I could not find any specific evidence that Enchanted Nightcrawlers spawn during Lantern Nights. However, it appears that during every Lantern Night I have experienced (over 5 of them), there have been Enchanted Nightcrawlers spawning. This could be a coincidence resulting from a meteor shower and lantern night occurring at the same time, but it is unlikely due to the number of times this has happened. I also have seen that others have noticed this due to wiki editing. Again, since I can't verify this completely, I can't officially say whether it is true or false but the evidence points towards it being true. I would suggest that you or anyone else do testing to verify. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.152.169.72
Thank you for the reply, I will reinstate your edit (with a Verify tag, just in case) because it sounds like I've probably been mistaken. I will do my best to test this, and reply with what I find. Can't confirm; I have encountered numerous Lantern Nights, but only in the last one did Enchanted Nightcrawlers spawn, most potentially due to it coinciding with a Meteor Shower. Will update on further evidence. Uebere (talk) 06:13, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
I believe that you are both correct. Perhaps the lantern night event has a high chance of spawning a meteor shower. Or killing specific bosses trigger meteor showers, similar to how the Corruption/Crimson boss needs to be killed to spawn a meteor in your world. In my play through I have noticed a meteor shower and enchanted nightcrawlers on every lantern night 71.48.208.53 16:18, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
I have proof that Enchanted Nightcrawlers spawn during Lantern Night without meteor shower. This is after the night after killing King Slime for the first time, before breaking any Demon Altars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vsoPXIoH8g
Encountered Lantern Night without Enchanted Nightcrawlers. Previous experience was probably due to coinciding with a meteor shower. 27.104.191.234 11:26, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
I have also encountered one night with no enchanted crawlers but on 2nd one i got them, + increased star drop rate, they were falling near me like every 5 seconds. Ill attach pic with my haul from one night of casually picking them up: File:Imgur-OuKKfxo-Talk-Lantern Night.png
  • I checked the 1.4.0.4 game code, and found some... interesting things:
    • Enchanted Nightcrawlers only spawn at night during meteor showers (note: this only counts for proper meteor showers, which occur 1 in every 10 nights, and have 3-5x the normal number of falling stars; there are also some nights [1 in every 3] which have slightly increased [up to 1.5x normal] falling star rates, and these do not count).
    • Enchanted Nightcrawlers also will only spawn if there are relatively few clouds in the sky. And thus, Lantern Nights will always meet this requirement, because during a Lantern Night the number of clouds is kept low.
    • Also, they only spawn at or above the Surface level.
tl;dr - Yes, they can spawn during lantern nights, but only if they also happen to be meteor shower nights, because the game really only checks for cloudless-ish meteor showers. - Fistsh (talk) 10:51, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
* Edit to add: There is no relation in the game code between Lantern Nights and Meteor Showers. As in, Meteor Showers are not triggered by Lantern Nights, and Lantern Nights are not triggered by Meteor Showers. - Fistsh (talk) 11:08, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
I almost totally agree. One more to say, since lantern night add some luck, that gives the world more chance generating Enchanted Nightcrawlers (that's also related to luck). Andrewzhu34 (talk) 16:30, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Well, I have another two problems =.= 1). "The Blood Moon event takes priority over the Meteor Shower." in Meteor Shower; is that true? Since I just found starfallBoost in NightSetup in UpdateTime_StartNight may occur every night, whether blood moon would happen or not. So just a doubt. 2). Worms may have more chance to spawn in rainy days, but it seems that Enchanted Nightcrawlers are not. Only time, cloud, location, luck counts. Andrewzhu34 (talk) 16:38, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
      • 1) You are correct - Blood Moon prevents Lantern Nights, not Meteor Showers. (Terraria.GameContent.Events.LanternNight.cs method LanternsCanStart(); Terraria.Star.cs method NightSetup())
2) Mostly correct. Enchanted Nightcrawlers only spawn at night, with little could cover (I am still working on figuring out exactly how to gauge this in-game - probably via use of the Weather Radio), during a Meteor Shower, and above-ground, plus Luck does affect their spawn rates. (Terraria.NPC.cs method SpawnNPC()) - Fistsh (talk) 04:26, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Lantern night

I have seen enchanted nightcrawlers spawn on lantern night when I turned spawn rate to 10x Rj911911911 (talk) 07:41, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Effect on item prices?

The article currently says "... items capable of being sold for more than double their normal price. ". Which NPCs/items are affected by this? --43 (talk) 04:48, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

I checked the source (1.4.0.5) and there there doesn't seem to be any relation between Lantern Nights and shop prices. LanternNight.LanternsUp is only used to add the Release Lantern to Party Girl, adding 0.3 luck and changing the weather. I also checked CustomSky.IsActive("Lantern") and it is unused. On the other side, item prices are calculated via Player.GetItemExpectedPrice which shows they're only affected by discount (from the Discount Card) and currentShoppingSettings.PriceAdjustment which comes from NPC Happiness (calculated in ShopHelper.cs). From everything I've seen, "items capable of being sold for more than double their normal price" isn't possible; I think what may have happened is that someone checked prices during a Lantern Night with a very happy NPC while they had checked prices with a very unhappy NPC before ("normal price"). In any case, I removed the statement. 79.251.38.190 19:29, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Pumpkin / Frost Moon

The article mentions that a Lantern Night can be delayed if a Pumpkin or Frost Moon is active when the night starts. I do not doubt the code-delvers, but given that these events can only be summoned after the night has begun, is such an occurrence actually possible in practice? 176.193.149.184 02:51, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
