Magic Mirror Recipe

The 1.4.4 changelog states "Added a recipe for Magic Mirror." can someone check if this is true and add it? I don't have 1.4.4yet, using an amazon device. --KrazyTek (talk) 05:29, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Today I found two Magic Mirrors in the Underground Jungle in the Cavern (1142 ft and 1002 ft). So I think it should be noted that the Magic Mirror can also (albeit rarely) be found in places other than the Underground.

They may also be found in the dungeon, just like other cavern loot. Jungle themed chests only appear in Jungle Shrines, as far as I am aware. Other chests in the jungle draw from the same loot tables as random cavern chests. I've also found jungle items like Feral Claws in the dungeon, though less often.Thursday 17:54, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Die on teleport

Don't know if this has been documented or if it's supposed to happen, but I used a Magic Mirror and right as I teleported I died. The "You Are Slain..." screen didn't appear, but I was back at my spawn with 5 hearts and the death message at the bottom of the screen was still there as if I died normally. If you keep encountering this problem you may have an object in the way of your spawn. If so get rid of the block or make a Bed and set your spawn to it. --Josiah 20:08, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Save and Exit

Given that re-entering a world after exiting always returns you to your spawn, assigning a mana cost to the magic mirror seems kinda pointless (even though it's a fairly minor one anyway). I could see this becoming useful if the game returned you to where you were prior to exiting, though. Maybe that's coming? --118.93.187.212 01:35, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

In single player this item is still very useful. For one thing leaving and re-entering the world for no other reason to return to your spawn is kind of an exploit. Secondly using a magic mirror is much faster than saving and reloading the entire world. In multiplayer the 'save and exit' strategy is even less viable. Not only is the game still going on without you while you are gone, but you have to re-download the entire map every time. --GauHelldragon 03:00, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

If it only is equippable in multiplayer...

Please make sure to use "Only works in Multiplayer." Currently you have the parentheses stating that it "works in multiplayer" meaning that one can assume it works in single-player as well. This is in response to a recent 1.0.6 history revert. 24.241.225.253 09:06, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

I believe 'equipping' here simply means using the Mirror, and that this bug is present both in single and in multiplayer. In multiplayer, there is just the added condition that no other players are near you. However, I understand your confusion, and will edit the bug description. --Toxik (talk|contribs) 12:12, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Btw, what about disappearing enemies? Do they disappear even if you teleport when standing near your spawn point? If no, this can not be considered as a bug -- gamecreator (T|C) -- 12:50, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Good question, will look into this when I get home tonight. --Toxik (talk|contribs) 13:49, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
This doesn't seem to be reproducable in either single or multiplayer. Enemies would not visually disappear, and would only be gone if I teleported far enough from the spawn (as if running from them) or they would remain in the same place. The version history of the page shows that the bug was originally reported a little over 4 months ago by Uprising120, and that this was their only contribution. The only thing I can think of that might cause some confusion is the fact that if you run from monsters and return to the exact same spot, they will no longer be there. Of course, in multiplayer, they will not 'despawn' when other players are nearby. I will take down the bug notice, since there probably isn't one. --Toxik (talk|contribs) 17:41, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Chance Of Finding

Can somebody tell me the chance of finding a magic mirror/ice mirror in underground/ice chests? Twitchzeus404 (talk) 00:41, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

For the Ice Chest, the page lists 20% chance of an ice mirror, but it also says "will have one of the following rare items", and the chances listed don't add up to unity. For regular chests, the Magic Mirror is one of 8 (Underground) or 10 (Caverns) possible "rare items", which AFAIK have equal chances. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 01:44, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

merge?

Someone should merge this page and recall potions together. Both do practically the same thing so why shouldn't we merge them? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PS420 (talk • contribs)

They are actually very different; Recall Potions are, well, a potion. They teleport instantly, they are consumed upon use, they are crafted, they are obtained in other ways as well, they are stackable... There's so much different between them that a merge would be highly impractical; the best option is probably to leave them as they are right now (where the pages state that their functions are similar) or maybe to add a "See also" bit as well (probably unnecessary are they are going to be linked already as far as I know.) Additionally, remember to sign talk comments with ~~~~ so other users know who wrote the comment. 2057clones (talk) 19:29, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Partially Dying

I have not been able to recreate this, but once I used the magic mirror for a narrow escape, and ended up 'partly dying'. I teleported back to spawn as expected, but the death sound played, my health was at half (like after dying) and the map showed a cross for where I died. However, I did not have a death screen, had no death message, dropped no coins and there was no tombstone at the site of 'partial death'. As I have not been able to recreate this, I am not sure whether varying levels of 'partial death' can be achieved (e.g. like above but map does not show cross for death location, etc.), however I imagine there can be different levels of 'partial death'. I take it though that health will always be set to half (or full depending on reason for death), otherwise you would teleport to spawn with 0 health and die there, which isn't really a 'partial death' since you'd likely do the whole thing, although it would be interesting that you teleport first. I suppose the other (incredibly unlikely or probably impossible) scenario is that you continue to live at 0 health somehow, and then either regenerate afterwards as normal or break the health system and be unable to regenerate (maybe even the regeneration might kill you when the game realises you have 0 health?). Although I very much doubt it is possible, if anyone can manage to live at 0 health, I'd be interested in what happens. Would you become invincible, with your health stuck at 0 or even going negative? Anyway I've gone off on a tangent. If anyone has the skill/tools to precisely time a magic mirror teleport to coincide with death, you should do some testing and potentially update the page with your findings. The death page might also be a place to add the findings. Perhaps we can find the order in which the various 'stages' of death occur (my findings show that health change, death sound and the death location cross on the map all happen before the death screen, death message, coin drop and tombstone spawn). Jammyson2357 (talk) 11:16, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

I just tested this a couple times, and got the same result every time; by placing a spike and running into it while using a recall potion, the death sound, drops, and marker would happen, but not the death screen. In the code, most death events happen at the same time, though item drops & tombstone spawning can be delayed if you're on a server. As such, I'd imagine that drops/no drops is the only difference that can happen between "partial deaths".
Also, the death check only happens when taking damage, so if you somehow happen to live with 0 life, the only thing that would kill you is more damage. --KM100 (talk) 22:25, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
