Wrong music?

The 'Night' Music sounds different on this wiki than on the actual game, and none of the versions sound much like it... Why? .__. TerrariaInspectre (talk) 23:33, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

It's actually the typical Night music that you would usually hear. Make sure you're playing vanilla and not modded. Maybe that's why. Murrayzero (talk) 23:40, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
*facepalm* Does nobody even notice this issue? The Overworld, Underground and Jungle themes all have the same problem too, just to name a few. I don't know where these tracks came from; all I know is that they are incorrect. Compare this (pc game rip) to this ("official soundtrack"). Surely there's an obvious difference here? Here are some other examples: Night (game rip / "official soundtrack"); Eerie (game rip / "official soundtrack"); Jungle (game rip / "official soundtrack"); the list just goes on. You are all letting me down. 86.22.1.38 15:08, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Tracks 62 through 88

Can anyone clarify what tracks 62 through 88 are for? I pulled them from the wavebank, and they're not related to anything on this page - sound totally different to the rest of the OST too. Trying to create a custom wavebank but I have no idea where these show up. For reference, 61 is the Desert Underground theme, and caps off the Journeys End music listed on this page. 109.175.170.226 11:50, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

You may have found the tracks for 05162020, which replace other tracks while in a world generated with that seed. If somebody could add them to this page, that would be nice. --172.58.175.58 12:23, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Overhaul

I have a pretty big overhaul of the music page. It's on Talk:Music/Overhaul because trying to apply it, even piecemeal, just results in a lot of abuse filters getting tripped. Hopefully an admin can take a look and cover for me; I do sincerely believe the page is much better like this and it was a lot of work. Note: the HTML spans are there to preserve the anchor points from links to section on other pages. --User-100192819 (talk) 14:28, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

I'm looking it over now. Nice job πŸ˜ƒ – Ferretwings (talk) 14:43, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
So? --User-100192819 (talk) 11:38, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
It definitely looks a lot better. I've updated the page. --Eraloiz (talk) 06:55, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Ice (Otherworldly)

Has anyone noticed that the Ice (Otherworldly) track bares a striking resemblance to the Fireboy and Watergirl tracks? Go on, then. Just listen to the soundtrack! By then, you should have probably heard the similarity? Right? -94.3.106.76 11:31, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Otherworld Tracks don’t work on mobile

Maybe because they are .ogg files, Otherworldly track can’t be played on mobile, at least on my Ipad. Is it possible to reupload them as .mp3 files? --Superwill771 (talk) 00:34, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Doesn’t work on android either 84.66.189.79 13:15, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
I don't have an iPad, but playing Otherworldly tracks works fine on Android (using Mozilla Fennec browser) if the page is set to Desktop view - none of the tracks are even clickable on Fennec's Mobile view, which I suppose is unsurprisingly given the frequent limitations Mobile view has. I'm wondering if the iPad issue might be a similar case. As a test, is it possible to click and play the samples below on iPad? NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 03:01, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
I use Duckduckgo browser for the Terraria and Minecraft wikis. Only the .mp3 and .wav files above work on my Ipad, not the .ogg one. I found out that sound files on the latter wiki don't work either because they are also .ogg files. --Superwill771 (talk) 15:14, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. I suppose lack of .ogg support just happens to be an occasional software limitation which should be taken into account when dealing with sound media. Part of the reason (besides curiosity) I wanted to test .wav files was because it may provide better quality than .mp3, but it seems generating .wav produces very large files (more than 8 MB, which is the upload limit) for some reason. I suppose it doesn't make much difference anyway. All .ogg files in the Music article have been replaced with .mp3 files now. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 23:43, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Also where did you get these .mp3 files from? --Superwill771 (talk) 00:41, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

They're just converted from the .ogg files (using Audacity, in case you wonder). NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 01:16, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
1) Ogg Vorbis audio files cannot work on Safari and some other browsers (<20% of global usage). This is not a mobile view limitation, this is an "Apple hates Google and will gladly harm its users by denying open format support if that means it's less compatible with Google's ecosystem" limitation. This was why Safari didn't support WebP, though WebP support in Safari is apparently actually going to happen.
2) Not surprising .wav files are huge. WAV files are lossless and uncompressed, meaning that they will have absolutely huge bitrates. You could have tried FLAC instead: it has more browser support, including Safari, and while lossless, it uses compression, and so can take about half the size of WAV files.
3) MP3 files are lossy; conversion to a lossy format will create distortions, and if the source is already lossy, the distortions will be aggravated. This is, however, probably not an unwanted issue in this case, given the licensing concerns and whatever. MP3 is also widely supported now that the patents covering that format have expired.
I hope that cleared some things up. --AttemptToCallNil (talk) 19:32, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
I see, thanks for explaining. That Apple is willing to cripple their users in order to wage war against Google and open-source is disappointing. As for choosing a non-ogg format, I knew there were other formats available, but since the .mp3 versions I tested didn't sound notably different (to me, at least) and - as you say - there is wide support for .mp3 I figured it was an acceptable alternative to .wav. In hindsight I do however see that FLAC would've been a good choice. NoseOfCthulhu (talk) 01:34, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
FLAC is still quite large bitrate-wise (about eight times larger than a decent-quality Ogg). As for transcoding from Ogg to MP3, I suppose the original music files were already in Ogg format? How they were obtained in the first place? β€” BabylonAS (talk) 14:39, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

Who will expand the history section?

Who will add console, mobile, and 3ds while I will work on other things here? --Superwill771 (talk) 13:06, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

Terraria: Otherworld official soundtrack titles

Should we change the otherworldly tracks’ title to those from the official soundtrack? --Superwill771 (talk) 20:20, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

If you're talking about the in-game tracks section: probably not - they should use their in-game (music box) names there. Though if you meant in the Otherworldly Tracks section, it looks like MadaxTheShadow has already updated it. --Eraloiz (talk) 20:59, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Otherworldly track names ingame

This is based off of a project i would like to do, but could someone help add a list to the otherworldly tracks table that states what the track is ingame? I have a couple to help if anyone wants to continue this. 01 Prelude - Rain 02 Every adventure has a beginning - Overworld day 03 Night falls, darkness emerges - Overworld Night 04 Below the surface - underground 05 Secret of the sands - desert 09 The endless void - space 26 - postlude - surface hallow If someone wants to complete this list with all tracks and use this list as well to add to the wiki that would be nice Edit: I set aside some time and have now made a list and completed it listing all the tracks next to their ingame versions. If someone wants me to put this in the wiki, just reply to this. ShadowBlade8192 (talk) 14:13, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
