Solo use?

Are there any benefits to using this item without any team members, apart from the increase to defense? 192.249.1.149 18:29, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

The only bonus is the 6 defence and immunity to knockback on solo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.121.185.114 at 16:11, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
Is this item currently bugged right now? It's suppose to reduce damage by 25% but I've noticed that with it equipped and without it equipped I take the same amount of damage. It also prevents knockback even though it's unlisted. I'm wondering if somehow it's working like an obsidian shield or does the reduced damage only work when you have a teammate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.167.223.2 at 05:12, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
According to the current wiki definition, it doesn't reduce damage by 25%, but absorbs 25% of damage your teammates take and applies it to you. I'm assuming this means if you and a friend were playing on team Blue, and said friend got killed by the Dungeon Guardian, you'd take ~2500 damage, while they took ~7500. This makes it useless for solo play, since you will always take 100% of your damage anyway. 130.245.216.155 10:06, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

Obsidian Paladin's Shield

Paladin's Shield is a good item, but it make us Vulnerable against fire's block. Don't you think that using the tinkerer workshop with an obsidian skull would'nt be cool ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Garwan50 (talk • contribs) at 13:57, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

there's the obsidian skull, obsidian shield, and the ankh shield 67.233.98.26 18:37, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
And lets not forget Obsidian Horseshoe, Obsidian Water Walking Boots, and especially the Lava Waders. Honestly, the Lava Waders are generally the only fire block immunity item I actually use for that purpose anymore. AdmiralTails (talk) 16:51, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

Turtle Armor Synergy

Does the shield trigger Turtle Armor's Thorns effect on the mob that struck your teammate? 99.6.26.155 03:23, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

No, it does not. I updated the page to show what it does have synergy with, though. Diamondcat6746 (talk) 01:06, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

Damage to ally, and multiple shields

Does this absorb 25% of the damage taken by an ally before or after THEIR defense is taken into account? If it's before, it could potentially mean that you cause them to take 1 damage from most places if they defense is good. Also, what happens in the event of there being multiple paladin shields on the same team? --MantaFirefly (talk) 09:47, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

Before. You see, the raw damage is shared between the user with the shield and the target. That said, lets say your ally has 40 DEF and you have 100 DEF, and 3 situations where an enemy attacks with 100, 200 and 300 damage.
  • On the first situation (100 damage):
    • Your ally would get 75% of the damage, so he/she would receive 100*0,75 = 75 damage. With 40 DEF he/she will lose 75-20 = 55 health.
    • You would get 25% of the damage, receiving 100*0,25 = 25 damage. With 100 DEF you will lose 25-50 = 1 health.
  • With 200 damage:
    • Your ally would lose 150-20 = 130 health.
    • You would lose 50-50 = 1 health.
  • With 300 damage:
    • Your ally would lose 225-20 = 205 health.
    • You would lose 75-50 = 25 health.
Basically, you are reducing any damage <200 by 25% from your ally, and only losing 1 health in exchange. Hope you understood :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 179.218.53.194 at 08:04, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
I've just tested this, and found it to be incorrect. An armored player shares less damage with the Shield's wearer than an unarmored player. I did this on old-gen console, but I don't think this is different on other versions. Diamondcat6746 (talk) 01:11, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

Magic Cuffs Synergy

Does the shield trigger the Magic Cuff's Mana restoration effect on the wearer when someone with the buff takes damage? 71.115.13.192 04:49, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
