Appropriate?

Okay, so with the announcement of this game, an interesting question has come up: Is this a wiki for Terraria: The Game or the Terraria Franchise? I don't actually know how to answer this myself, so I'm leaving this open to a standard wiki vote, and I'd like the input of all users who see this page (especially Curse staff, as they may have their own plans to deal with new games in the series) but I expect input and justifications, not blind support. More information on this game is going to come out and more people are going to start acting on it, so we need to decide early if this info is going to be recorded here or directed to its own wiki.

I think that we should keep Terraria: Otherworld information off this wiki. If we were to have this be a wiki for both games, we would have to state on each page which game it refers to, and it would get confusing when searching for a specific item. As Loki stated in the post announcing the game, "We also plan to launch a full site and community for Terraria: Otherworld at a future date/closer to launch." I think that this wiki should just be for Terraria 1, but it should have a page for Terraria: Otherworld, and links to pages on a separate wiki for Terraria: Otherworld. --Jcourt325 (talk) 6:55, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

It's your wiki and we will abide by your feelings on the matter, but i find that keeping franchises together on one wiki works best. We do want to gear up for the new game so i'd appreciate your final decision as soon as possible. We can do either: add the new content to this wiki, either with appropriate real estate on the main page and useful categories, or a new namespace for the new game (still with some main page changes to point to it), or a totally separate wiki. — Game widow ^(talk) 18:17, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

I'd have to agree with Game widow. Keep this wiki with the Terraria franchise. Much like how Wowpedia is, it's focused on the Warcraft franchise: including the books, the role-playing games (Warcraft III)... not just the MMORPG itself. The real question when combining or splitting wikis for a franchise are how similar those games are. If you have to basically copy/paste all info to a new wiki, because it is the same, its just a waste of time. However, if you have to write each page twice, one for the first game in the franchise and one for the second game, it just becomes messy. Having seen the short preview for the game I believe the first case applies here. All mechanics and even the items seem to be the same, only with updated graphics. Therefore, I think it would be best not to make separate wikis. Having to refer to which version it applies shouldn't be a problem, we already do the same for the console and mobile versions. Of course, if future previews show that there are in fact significant differences between the two versions, it would be better to split it. However, for now I suggest making a page about the new version and just keep it on this wiki till more information is available. --0icke0 (talk) 00:11, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Let's say the Bunny in Terraria (original game) was compared to the stats from this game (Otherworld, just as an example.. don't know if Bunny does exist...) and they have different stats. We don't need to make new articles just because of the stat changes, we could do what Wowpedia has done; Using this item as an example, clicking the boxes next to the article name will change the item stats to that such raid difficulty, whilst here we could change it depending on what game. This is a great idea in my opinion, also wouldn't be a lot of articles to make but it'll require sometime to setup for this to work. User:Zdroid9770/Sig1 04:49, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

I'd say activity has spun down but it was never really that up to begin with, so there's not much point in dallying about any longer. Four for "franchise" and two for "game" means that we're keeping it here, for now at least. This game likely isn't coming out anytime soon anyway, so we'll have ample time down the line to work out any serious problems. I know it's really early in development, and there's really not a lot to work with, but there are still some notable things, like the Ebondirt Blocks shown in the GDC 2015 Trailer. I have reported the Terraria: Otherworld Wiki to the Gamepedia staff and so they will determine its fate. Possibly deletion, but it will probably take some time. I added the forums post to the news page that displays news on the front page. I also updated some of the articles already to reflect Otherworld's new status. – ReedemtheD3ad!
