Tips on increasing spawning chances of Tim

The way most spawns work in Terraria are in a if/else loop, so if a monsters spawn, it stops processing the rest to check whether another monster should spawn. As such, before checking for a "Tim" Spawn, there is a 1/10 chance of a mother slime, then a 1/4 Chance of a black slime to spawn and finally there's a 1/700 chance of it to spawn if in the lower half of the rock layer. This is assuming one is avoiding water pools for goldfish/piranhas/Jelly fish to spawn also avoiding the jungle (as jungle spawns have priority over Tim) and not in hardmode and obviously avoiding changing elements like meteorite, corruption and the dungeon.

Otherwise you'll just want to increase the spawn rate (Battle plotions, Blood moon etc..)

So in ideal conditions, it gives us a 1/1037 chance for it to spawn.

No. In ideal conditions (where the player is well into the lower layer preventing spawns in top layer to occur, no water nearby, no jungle nearby and the world is not in hardmode), the chance of tim spawning when a monster is supposed to spawn is: The chance of a Black slime not spawning times the chance of a Mother slime not spawning times the chance for Tim to spawn. Which is 9/10 * 3/4 * 1/700 which actually equals 27/28000, which is very close to 1 in 1000, but just below by a twenty eight hundreth. Which means you got it out by 1/29036000 (1/1037-27/28000). Use a gemstone Robe to increase the spawn rate that is what "if you need his hat" means.

For what it's worth, I just checked the 1.3.0.7 source and in the NPC class, SpawnNPC() method, wearing the gem robes without Tim's hat does increase his spawn rate. If you want to find it, select the entire method and search for " 45". Travia21 (talk) 17:49, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

Farming Tim

How odd

The only time I've ever seen Tim, two of him spawned at the exact same time. Very peculiar. 67.9.164.49 10:43, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Tim's Name on wiki-Page

So, does Tim's in-game tooltip actually have all that "Hi Hi HiHi..." garbage? Or is that someone's attempt at humor? I've not had one spawn yet, so cannot confirm or dismiss this.

Tim's spawn location

Tim seems to spawn in the cavern layer, at the lava level but not in the underworld. Tim spawned only in that place to me. Same as rune wizard. Coincidence?
