Using torches to determine Crimson/Corruption quarantine line?

As I approach the Corruption/Crimson biome while putting down torches, the torches turn Corrupt/Crimson at about the same time the water turns to the color of the Corruption/Crimson biome, but this is usually well before I see blocks with actual Corruption/Crimson. Is this where I should be digging quarantine barriers, or can I go much closer to where I see the Corruption/Crimson blocks? Uluqat (talk) 01:19, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Placing torches in the Underworld... for profit

There's currently a tip for earning money by using the Torch God's Favor in order to convert regular torches, convert them into demon torches via placing and removing them in the underworld. Full disclosure: I'm the same person who removed that tip a few days ago - using way harsher words than necessary, which I'd like to apologize for: "Sorry, I was a bit emotional when I read that advice." I won't start an edit war over this, however I do I have a question. Let me walk you through the advice like I understand it: Let's be realistic and say that a player doing this only buys torches from a happy Merchant for 40 copper a piece. They pay 4 gold for 1k torches, selling 1k demon torches nets them 7.5 gold, making them a profit of 3.5 gold for two thousand mindless clicks. My question is "What is a situation were an actual person playing Terraria would realistically do this in order to farm gold?" I don't want to suggest that would never happen, but I have played a lot of Terraria since buying it in 2017 and I just can't see someone in a situation like that. I'm sure farming Queen Bees, or looking for golden chests could be viewed as equally mindless but wouldn't it be more profitable and entertaining? --185.220.101.141 23:53, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

I have no particular personal preference on whether this should be here, but if removed it would probably be re-added by someone shortly, and we don't really have good grounds to forbid it. Granted it's not a very practical "tip" in this case, but discrepancies between the value of ingredients vs. their crafting results are of general interest to lots of players. They represent ways to basically make money appear from nowhere, so whenever players spot them they they tend to list them on the wiki, traditionally. It would be difficult to draw a line on how big the profit needs to be in order to merit mentioning here. Equazcion (talk) 00:11, 12 Jun 2020 (UTC)
I understand. Thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to formulate an answer. --46.105.116.11 23:25, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
