Frequent Respawning System?

Every time I find a truffle worm, another spawns fairly quickly, and again, up until one despawns or dies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.243.182.0 at 8:43:03 June 27 2014

AI Clarification

Does this really follow the Worm AI? Bantya (talk) 03:43, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

Nope. Thanks for pointing that out, now removed. Equazcion (talk) 03:47, 9 Nov 2014 (UTC)

Not Spawning for Me

so I have been using this map for fairly long and I have beaten duke fishron many times, however, now I can't find any of the buggers and it seems they never spawn. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Steamgasting (talk • contribs) at 13:03, July 6, 2015

Warning only shows up when you caught the Boss, not when you have the worm in your inventory.

My "data", even when i have the Truffle Worm in my inventory, shows my normal fishing power, only after throwing my Truffle Worm baited pole into the ocean, and it starts bobbing around, THEN my fishing power shows WARNING, and ofc, when i pull it in, Sharky Mc Cantrememberhisname appears.

The explanation on the page is just wrong, and the editor on this site is still broken. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.130.152.151 at 19:12, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, VisualEditor's not great from what I hear, but it's becoming standard across most mediawiki platforms and they're really pushing it, to the extent that it's automatically imposed on anon users. You should be able to just hit the "edit source" or "code" button to switch back to the old editor.
Thanks for pointing the error out, it's been fixed. Sorry about the inconvenience. Gearzein (talk) 00:18, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Question about dropping the Truffle Worm item on the ground

Second to last Tip:
Ensure that your inventory has free spaces and there are no items on the ground on the way to the Truffle Worm that will fill it to ensure that it does not burrow due to no free inventory space. I actually forgot to do that, and the worm was dropped on the ground as an item unable to burrow. You can also drop any critter with rightclick and the hover text will say Bunny, or release it with leftclick and the hovertext will say Bunny 5/5. I'm on PC though, can anyone confirm for other platforms?

The difference between "dropping" and "releasing":
  • Anything in your inventory can be dropped. When a critter is caught, it becomes an item (no longer a Critter NPC) and has no health (HP). If the critter is dropped, it will still be considered an item, and will have no health (no HP), nor will it be able to move.
  • If the critter is released (rather than dropped), it again becomes a Critter NPC, has health, and is able to move, as all NPCs can.
P.S. This is a fundamental mechanic, so it should be the same on all platforms. – Ferretwings (talk) 16:02, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
The point is that on second to last Tip on this wiki page it says you should empty your inventory because the worm could burrow. In my experience it does get dropped as an item even with full inventory and is unable to burrow (contrary to the statement on this wiki page) so the statement seems therefore inaccurate. Possibly outdated or only on certain platforms? Seems to me like that statement should be corrected or removed.

Good point. I edited it. – Ferretwings (talk) 21:28, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

Conflicting info for mobile version regarding ability to burrow(and running away)?

"In the Mobile version, Truffle Worms do not burrow underground when approached by the player. They will also spawn in pre-Hardmode."
vs
"On the Mobile version, Truffle Worms do not move but will burrow, similar to the PC version. If exposed to a Water Candle, however, the Truffle Worm will begin to fly around the biome until caught / killed, similar to the Digger."
vs
"On the Mobile Version, Truffle Worms can be found on surface mushroom biomes, but are very rare. If the Truffle Worm burrows/ runs away, it will return due to no place to burrow to."
I don't have a mobile version to test for myself 88.193.92.203 18:31, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Nightcrawlers in the underworld?

Is there any information about whether the nightcrawler can spawn in the underworld? Can't sem to get any there. I have set up the platforms with mushroom grass but apparently it does not work. 91.82.235.30 07:51, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

Clarification on TW vs. Monsters

The 'History' section on the wiki page says that Truffle Worms were able to be killed by monsters post-1.3. Does this mean that Truffle Worms cannot be killed prior to 1.3? This should be clafified on the Wiki in 'Spawning', where it mentions using Water Candles. Now that I mention it, can Water Candles be used to spawn more TWs prior to 1.3 too? I will proceed to verify, but feedback from people with the 1.2 update would be greatly appreciated, especially from old-gen console users. Diamondcat6746 (talk) 21:10, 7 April 2018 (UTC)
