- Not an admin myself but it's pretty much up to the one who takes action. Use your own judgement based on severity, frequency, and past behavior. - There's no hard rule. One week is fine for this. I usually reserve two-week initial blocks for vandals who attempt to be stealthy and get incorrect info to stick long-term -- by making questionable edits with edit summaries intended to look constructive. Those are more dangerous; and if it's a registered account, even more so, and I'll even do months as an initial block. The ones who are more clearly messing around, by posting immature language, gibberish, or other nonsense, are less of a threat. Check block logs and escalate the length if a vandal returns to vandalizing after the block expiration. In the end though, use your judgment. Equazcion (talk) 02:45, 10 Dec 2016 (UTC)

- Given the nature of the pages, which were grossly inappropriate, I extended the block to "indefinite". All the edits made by this user were inappropriate, with not a single good contribution. It almost sounds like they want to give advise, but I'm not sure google translator is up to it. I'm thinking we should remove the block. Here is how it translated:

- This was actually User:68.187.241.33. They changed the page 6 times in quick succession and the final edit reverted things back to normal (TOTORO01 undid all the edits afterward but that wasn't actually necessary). In case this was a test or series of mistakes by a new user trying to get the hang of things, I'd rather wait and perhaps block if this happens again. Equazcion (talk) 05:27, 2 Oct 2016 (UTC)

- There's not really a reason to block indefinitely. This IP has no previous record of persistent vandalism so it's hard to recommend a time, but in my experience, making block length proportionate to severity isn't really helpful, as few ever actually come back. The major problem with indefinite blocks is that they span all of Gamepedia, and a single user isn't likely to hold the same IP forever. Range blocks are only applied in extreme circumstances as well, and would be uncalled for in this case. If they come back, go ahead and extend it, but I doubt they will. I blocked him for 2 months, but after cleaning up his mess, I am wondering if I should increase the block. The pages he created were: Oops I Poisoned Myself, File:Oops I Poisoned Myself And Am Thinking About Suicide.png, File:Oops I Poisoned Myself.png, Category:Entities introduced in 1.3.2.1. The filename with the word "suicide" is the one that got me (not to mention that the page format was identical to our other wiki pages, and users may not realize that it was a troll). However, since he seems to be filling in history for the Mobile version, I'm having difficulty verifying the legitimacy of his edits. He is definitely not getting the information from our Mobile Version history page. If he has access to source code, it could be that much/all of it is truth, but it is also possible that all of it is fiction. I left him a message, asking for his source, but I'm not sure how that works with IPs. I've banned him for a month, but if he is legit, he needs to be un-banned. --Ferretwings (talk) 15:12, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- It's vandalism. He says the Portal Gun was added and obtainable in Mobile 1.2.4, which is extremely unlikely, being a 1.3 item. And that the Shrimpy Truffle was introduced in 1.1 and "Now Properly drops by Wall of Flesh instead of The Mechanical Bosses", which is wrong in several different ways. Lots of other blatantly false stuff from this IP. Talk page messages do work for IP users when they continue editing from that same IP, but I wouldn't have left one in this case; the block was fine.
