encountered a hallowed chest mimic boss that's not even on the wiki?

hey i was throwing bombs down to the under world for ease of access but on the way down i saw a strange chest then i went near it it turned into what said to be a hallowed chest mimic it had 3500 hp and had attacks such as a slam attack and more i hit a water cave before i found it so before i saw it i was already drowning i saw this boss in the hallow cave biome in hardmode the only boss i beaten before was the wall of flesh if anyone else have seen / beaten this mob let me know what it drops or if it had any more attack's then i saw I'm quite curious about this boss ok thanks

sorry about the lack of evidence i really did see this boss and i hope someone else has found it to Syres345 (talk) 22:20, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

  • update* wow i'm so sorry i posted this turns out it was on the wiki and i mis spelled it sorry about that...

May I suggest adding, "Each of the Bubble Gun's bubbles do normal damage, with a maximum of 3x the damage. If the Bubble Gun does 74 damage, then if all 3 bubbles were to hit an enemy, it would deal around 222 damage. If all hits were to be critical, it can deal around 444 damage. Not to mention the rapid fire and low mana cost, if you were to fight the Eye of Cthulhu using the Bubble Gun alone, from the second of first bubble contact with the Eye to it's death, it can take less than 4 seconds."

Just a suggestion, from my own personal Terraria adventures and observations.

Also, i defeated the twins before the night was 25% done with it alone :)

Curse-produced videos

It appears Curse has begun producing Terraria videos for embedding at the wiki.

This was discussed a long time ago as a possibility, and from what I remember, there was some general agreement in the community that we'd go ahead with including these in mainspace (only Curse-produced videos, not player submissions).

I'm going to assume that this first video, posted to Ankh Shield, is the promised sample video. If anyone has feedback on the video and the prospect of including more of them on other pages, feel free to make your thoughts known here. In the meantime, let's please leave the video up on that page. Thanks. Equazcion (talk) 10:07, 5 Jan 2016 (UTC)

The quality of the video is good, so I'm happy with that. However it contains multiple mistakes: Cobalt Shields can not be found in underground chests, Blindfold does not drop from Light Mummies or Pixies and Armor Polish does nor drop from Rusty Armored Bones, Angler Fish or Werewolves. I hope for the next videos some more fact checking is done. --0icke0 (talk) 11:26, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Hate to be an agitator, but I was under the impression these videos were going to be on guides, not necessarily in main articles. The production quality is good, errors aside, but part of my reason for wanting them to be guides was so that the videos seemed necessary to explain the more complex or in-depth topics that guides tackle. I'm not recommending it be moved, because the Ankh Shield is suitably complex to need a video explanation, but I'm just hoping this doesn't mean we'll eventually have minute-long videos on sand and dirt.
I also realize this is probably a bit too much to ask, but for multiple reasons, I wish someone here had been contacted before the video was added to a main page. I mean, as it is now, it needs to be replaced, but it's put us in kind of an awkward position to go back and remove it again. Gearzein (talk) 12:49, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Contacting us first was the original plan, but that seems to have gotten lost along the way. User:CrsDash had asked to contact me via email (brief discussion), but I never got anything. My suspicion is that my suggestion that these things be discussed on-wiki wasn't taken well. Which is sort of understandable... they may not have wanted to deal with whatever drama might ensue.
Either way, due to the errors that have been pointed out in the video, I think we're pretty justified in removing it from the article -- at least until it's fixed. Hopefully Dash will let us know if/when that happens, and maybe do at least some coordinating with the community before making the next video. Equazcion (talk) 12:12, 6 Jan 2016 (UTC)
Also just wanted to point out another little error in the video: It implies that the Ankh Shield was added in 1.3, but it was actually added in 1.2. Equazcion (talk) 12:19, 6 Jan 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I'm User:Aengelmann, the new(ish) head of the Curse video team. With the new year, we are making a push to collaborate with a bunch of Curse based wikis to create video content for each wiki. As your team has pointed out, there should probably be some sort of process in place so we can reduce errors, and cover content relevant for the community. I'd love to discuss that process with your team. What works best for you guys? Is the wiki best for you, or could we do something like Skype? Thanks! Aengelmann (talk) 22:44, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

At last recollection, there was consensus among the acting admins that handling it here on the wiki was best. I personally believe that if creating content for the community is the first and foremost goal of this effort, then it's not possible without some degree of transparency. I'm not necessarily saying that this should be a matter of mass collaboration, but the majority of this wiki's contribution ultimately comes from non-staff users, and to keep them entirely out of the loop seems not only unfair but ill-advised- after all, I wasn't able to spot those errors off the top of my head. Having these discussions be publicly visible would also make it completely unambiguous that these videos are being done in an official capacity, and that the presence of videos on some pages is not an invitation for individual users to promote themselves.
This is entirely personal opinion, though, and I'm willing to hear points to the contrary. There are certainly negative points to having this all take place in a publicly visible space, but I believe those aspects to be outweighed by the positives. Gearzein (talk) 03:54, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
I understand where you are coming from, and also think it's important to keep the wiki involved in the pre-production to keep things relevant and accurate. The transparency isn't much of a concern for me, however the technical issues are. Our scripts usually go through a bunch of revisions, have comments and notations on certain parts, are often worked on by multiple people simultaneously, and are linked in with our project management software. I'm not sure if hosting the script on the wiki could handle all that without trouble. We typically use google docs for our script writing process. Is that something you guys are open to? Could we post a link to the script on the wiki somewhere and allow members to look it over, suggest edits, and approve before production begins? I think that could be a good mix of transparency for wiki members, and solving technical issues on our end.
That being said, any discussion before pre-production begins (e.g. figuring out what topics to cover, what takes precedence for videos) could be handled here on the wiki completely.Aengelmann (talk) 14:34, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
That's what I had in mind, yeah. I don't think the script should be written by committee, nor does it even seem necessary for the wiki at large to have access to a near-finished script. I mostly mean the broad strokes where a subject is chosen, a loose framework is laid out, and facts are checked. Gearzein (talk) 02:49, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
That works for us. We were thinking for a new video to do a "Cellphone Build Guide" similar to the Ankh Shield video. We thought it might be handy as it's one of the most complicated items to get in the game. However we are open to topic suggestions. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) have any thoughts on topics that'd be appropriate for video?Aengelmann (talk) 17:29, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Video scripts for review:

Phone Crafting Guide Video - The first draft of the Cell Phone Crafting Guide Video is open for review. We will keep it open for a week (until Feb 8th). Please look it over for errors and add any comments you see fit. Thanks! Aengelmann (talk) 19:28, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

The Cell Phone script has been updated, and a final version can be viewed if anyone would like to look over it. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.164.170.2
I just went through the script linked above (Phone Crafting Guide Video) and fact checked it line by line. I changed one minor error in the Radar section: wooden *crates* (not chests) can be obtained by fishing. Something bothered me about the section regarding where the Magic Mirror could be found, and I finally realized what it was. The wiki article was slightly confusing and that made it into the script. I have corrected the article so it is more precise, and then updated the script to reflect this. Basically, there is no need to specify underground jungle as that is already contained in the previous mention of underground and cavern layers. The rest of the script passes fact checking with flying colors. To me, it looks good to go. Thank you for taking the time and effort to produce these videos, and thank you very much for involving us in the process. SWAdair (talk) 20:00, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Here is a link to the completed Cell Phone Video. It is set for a tentative release on Monday 3/7. Please take a look, and let us know if anything seems inaccurate. Thanks! [1] 21:53, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
Great video! Everything looks accurate and very well done. Thank you. SWAdair (talk) 17:26, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Using old file versions

Is it possible to use an old version of a png file? An editor tried to show what the old Nazar sprite looked like, but since the older version is now archived, is it inaccessible? Ferretwings (talk) 02:27, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

I think that if you want to use the old nazar sprite and put it in an article, you would have to make a new file in upload file. I think you could download the old sprite from the Nazar if you really want to, it's still in there. P.S. I'm bad with links, I wanted to make it say Nazar File, but you have to click the image, I guess. Mythteller (talk) 15:52, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Summoning Plantera on Mobile and Console

I looked through the edit history of Plantera, and apparently somebody tested both mobile and console, and found that all 3 mechanical bosses must be defeated in order to summon Plantera. Can this be confirmed? --Ferretwings (talk) 15:26, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

In Mobile Version, you just need to defeat 1 mechanical boss to spawn Plantera Bulb. Jonhof04 (talk) 19:47, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
When was the last time you summoned Plantera for the first time on a new world? –Ferretwings (talk) 15:01, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
As of the latest update on mobile and console, it is compulsory that you defeat all three mechanical bosses before you face Plantera. I guess it tests whether you're worthy or not for facing Plantera. :) LordofEditing (talk) 21:59, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the mobile info :) Now, I need a console player to give input. I also need somebody to test 3DS and Wii U since they are running older versions. – Ferretwings (talk) 01:48, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
As long as any version is running any version later than 1.2.4, one must defeat all mech bosses before advancing. LordofEditing (talk) 02:14, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Edit War with Deadly Sphere Staff

An editor insists that the Deadly Sphere Staff isn't a post-Plantera weapon. However, the enemy that drops it (Deadly_Sphere) is a post-Plantera enemy. Neither of them have been added to "Post-Plantera entities". I need somebody to help us settle this. -- Ferretwings (talk) 03:24, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

Who is this, editor? LordofEditing (talk) 03:42, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Hardmode tag

I added a "hardmode" tag to {{item infobox}}. Eventually this can be used to distinguish hardmode vs. pre-hardmode items more easily, eg. via automatic DPL lists (like on swords), and/or some distinctive infobox coloring. Right now it just places items into Category:Hardmode-only items.

I went on an initial bot-tagging spree to get this Hardmode tag on pages -- however, since there's nothing all that distinctive about Hardmode articles yet, this was a bit inaccurate. Some pages were missed, and some pre-Hardmode items got the tag erroneously. Feel free to correct these manually if you should come across them and feel inclined (add or remove "hardmode = yes" in item infoboxes). Equazcion (talk) 20:44, 5 Mar 2016 (UTC)

Plantera glitch

So I have a world on console where I defeated Golem (I had Picksaw) and THEN defeated mechanical bosses, and Chlorophyte had started spawning, but no bulbs would appear. Any help? --Perplepotatoe (talk) 16:47, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

To clarify, you've defeated the Wall of Flesh, Golem, and the 3 Mechanical Bosses? —Ferretwings (talk) 17:22, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

The Miscellaneous page

I am in the process of updating the Miscellaneous page, but a thought occurred to me. What is the purpose of this page? We have a page for Bars and Potions and Paint, etc. Is it merely a list of everything that isn't an accessory, weapon, or piece of armor? There is no header paragraph on the page to explain what is to be listed there. Does anybody remember why this page was made? –Ferretwings (talk) 01:37, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

The continued existence of that page is one of several deep institutional problems with the wiki's old means of categorization (read: none). It can't really be gotten rid of because it's linked on the front page, and that needs a much bigger redesign than most of us are able or willing to commit to. I'd say that updating it is a lost cause- you'd be better off trying to group items together in a way that makes more sense until all those items actually fit in one. It's not possible for any item on this wiki to just have no sortable properties. Gearzein (talk) 04:47, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
It is only used on the main page. So maybe just remove all categories that are already linked to on the main page (Dye, Paint, Bars, Potions and Pets). --0icke0 (talk) 10:07, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
That would make more sense. I'll go ahead and remove everything that has already been linked to. –Ferretwings (talk) 13:10, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Displaying changes in crafting recipes

When an update changes a crafting recipe (for example, the Campfire now requires only 10 wood), I'm wondering if it would make more sense to simply place a Desktop icon next to the new amount, and place the console and mobile icons next to the old amount. Currently, the old recipe is usually moved into a Console/Mobile section. I just used this format on the Campfire page.

Like so: WoodWood (10 Desktop version / 20 Console versionMobile version)

Projectile IDs Page Revamp

So I've been gradually working on improving/updating some mass reference pages (Enemy List, for example), and Projectile IDs is next on my list so I'm here to propose a new layout idea for the page. In its current iteration it's... not particularly useful for about half the entries since so much information is missing (For example, IDs 486-489 are all just labeled "Hook" with no image or link. Turns out they come from Tendon Hook, Thorn Hook, Illuminant Hook, and Worm Hook, respectively, but in their current state in the table they pretty much mean nothing for anyone who might be looking at the page without cross-referencing the source code). Additionally some entries don't display an image of the projectile itself but rather an image of the entity that it came from, for example ID 349 is Frost Shard, a projectile used by the Ice Queen, however the image is of the entire Ice Queen NPC.

My proposal to improve the page is to incorporate a "source" column that would list the NPCs, items, or blocks that the projectile comes from, allowing for a picture of the actual projectile as it appears in the game while still maintaining clarity as to where the projectile came from (since most projectiles don't have a dedicated page of their own to link to).

An example table with a few entries of various types to demonstrate:

Projectile Source
Item ID
class="il1c" | Wooden Arrow Wooden Arrow 1 Any standard Bow/Repeater using Wooden Arrows, Guide, Goblin Archer, Blue Cultist Archer
class="il1c" | Shuriken Shuriken 3 Shuriken (thrown)
class="il1c" | Pet Lizard Pet Lizard 209 Lizard Egg (pet)
class="il1c" | Frost Shard Frost Shard 349 Ice Queen
class="il1c" | Coin Portal Coin Portal(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 518 Pots

Sounds good to me. --0icke0 (talk) 08:46, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
It looks great, a definite improvement. --Ferretwings (talk) 13:00, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

about templates

Hi there. Now, Im probably gonna get a big no, but, hey, ima try.

So, on this wiki [2], from what I've seen, there isn't any Template:Biome. So, I want to copy the source and make a new page on the other wiki. But I feel guilty of just blatant copying from this wiki. Should I just make one from scratch, copy it completely, copy it and make large enough changes, or should I just not bother at all? Thanks. Pickaxe tiers

Are the Pickaxe tiers best described at Pickaxes#Effectiveness? If they are, I'd like to add a note to the Pickaxes page. The tiers are mentioned on many pickaxe pages, but no explanation is given. —Ferretwings (talk) 19:20, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

I guess that is the best place. --0icke0 (talk) 09:18, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

About adding Wii U version on main page

Now that the Wii U version has been relesaed, shouldn't be added in the "Console" frame on the right side of the main page?

Sorry to ask, because I've no idea how to edit the main wiki page.

You can tell an administrator or post something on the administrative notice board, but it's probably been updated already. LordofEditing (talk) 03:41, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Xbox 360 version

On the picture it says that Xbox 360 has had the 1.2.4.1 up date already: I checked my Xbox 360 and it is still on the FISH-20151124 update. Is it my Xbox 360 not working properly or is this false information. TheConsoleTerrarian (talk) 11:21, 3 July 2016 (UTC) Ta.PNG

Seems Microsoft hasn't approved the update yet (link). --0icke0 (talk) 08:05, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Terraria is out for wii U it is not uploaded in the page.

Desktop version has changed.

Is someone going to update the front page to match? Alfonse215 (talk) 04:38, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Yup, although all admins are offline, so we will see the results later I think, or the purchase link of 1.3.2 is not yet released on Steam. --IosKent (Talk Page - Contribs) 04:43, 23 July 2016 (UTC)--
Lol, well maybe one admin is online :) Fixed it. -- Ferretwings (talk) 05:00, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

The Terraria Online Fansite is shut down, so should we remove the Fansite and Fansite Forums, or just keep it there? --IosKent (Talk Page - Contribs) 08:37, 24 July 2016 (UTC)--

A frost key dropped for me and it had a verry weird tag.

Earlier today i got something weird. I don't know if it was a bug, or a legitimate item. It was a frost key (not the mold), and it said "It has been cursed by a powerful jungle creature," I have a screenshot as well. Lifeandlemmons (talk) 20:50, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Once you defeat Plantera, the curse will be lifted and you can use the key to open the Frozen Chest in the Dungeon. – Ferretwings (talk) 23:24, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

(RE hmm strange i didn't realize that they had removed the mold system thank you) Lifeandlemmons (talk) 01:19, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

What platform are you using? Desktop, PS3, iOS, or what? – Ferretwings (talk) 01:23, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Can somebody identify this consumable: ITEMNAME[5080]

Can somebody identify this consumable:
I discovered an odd consumable known as ITEMNAME[5080], and it is a gift resembling a torch's flame. It drops this alongside some hellfire arrows, a voodoo doll, and Molten Armor. - User:Nescre, 23:56, 28 August 2016

As far as I can tell the item should not be in the game Desktop version, i checked the code. Which probably means you are playing a modded version of Terraria and with that I (or probably we) cannot help you. Flisch42 (talk) 10:19, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
He appears to be a mobile user (or 3DS). I wanted to look into the APK file and find it, but I don't remember where the mobile item ids are. I really should have taken notes the last time I did that. Then again, if the item doesn't have a name, then I guess it can't be looked up. When the Zapinator was first released on 3DS, it only had an itemname (the devs fixed it in a patch). – Ferretwings (talk) 17:39, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
The next patch for 3DS might fix the bug, but I suspect it might be the Living Fire Block. But do you mean like the green present with a flame sprite? Hmmm. Perhaps you could provide an screenshot? LordofEditing (talk) 20:34, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
Maybe a Obsidian Rose? LordofEditing (talk) 20:46, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

NPCs and Party Hats

Greetings, fellows! I came to ask if we'll be able to get pixel-accurate reniditions of all the NPCs that can wear Party Hats during the major 1.3.2 event. I tried to provide some using Capture Mode, but it handles them rather strangely (although other characters work just fine in the snapshots I have taken thus far. Once again, thanks for gour considerations!--Diekonradish (talk) 18:40, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

That would probably have to be done by taking the party hat graphic from the game files and editing it into each NPC graphic. It's not terribly essential, but I guess they could be used in the table at Party, if someone wants to go to the trouble of creating them. Equazcion (talk) 19:35, 3 Sep 2016 (UTC)
I found the NPC pngs, NPC head pngs, and a png that contains all the hats. The trouble is, one would need to erase the hats that the NPCs are currently wearing. I looked at the game code, and couldn't figure out how the game does it. Maybe when I'm done with my current dpl project, I'll give it a shot. I do like the idea. – Ferretwings (talk) 20:44, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you User:4e696e6a6f795844 for handling this. It's greatly appreciated :) – Ferretwings (talk) 14:47, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Coins Coins, Pretty little coins.

Me, I think the default coin pictures look kind of boring. But of course, the animated versions Copper Coin.gif Silver Coin.gif Gold Coin.gif Platinum Coin.gif might be hard on the eyes. I'm honestly not sure if that is the case, I haven't tested it. Anyone think it'd be a good idea to change all the images for coins?(for the pc version anyways) βɵωʈɵɛs (talk) 06:12, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Just a note, the actual static coin images in use are these: . Equazcion (talk) 06:17, 4 Sep 2016 (UTC)
Thanks βɵωʈɵɛs (talk) 06:19, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
The gifs tend to be a little distracting to me; they draw my eyes to them like a magnet. It can make it difficult to read a page when my eyes keep moving toward the spinning coin. I am, of course, speaking only from my own perspective. Perhaps others do not have the same problem. – Ferretwings (talk) 17:35, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
I think any particular animation will tend to get old quickly. As the coin templates are in use on thousands of pages, seeing the same ones everywhere could become an eyesore. As Ferretwings points out, the coin animations seem especially designed to be eye-catching, which is good in the game, but bad on wiki pages, where they're not intended to be the focus of attention (and where you can't "collect" them in order to make it stop). This is just my personal opinion, and I hope others comment. Equazcion (talk) 18:13, 4 Sep 2016 (UTC)
I agree with the two previous users. In my opinion they do not add to the wiki, but are distracting, because they try to catch my attention. And with the static image i find it easier to recognize which coin is meant. Flisch42 (talk) 21:12, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
I guess that settles it then? No animated coins? βɵωʈɵɛs (talk) 20:44, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
It doesn't look like it. Few decisions are ever final on a wiki though. This discussion will stay up here until the page is archived, and until then anyone can continue to comment. Even after that the idea can always be revisited. Equazcion (talk) 21:02, 5 Sep 2016 (UTC)
Yep, even reading this whole thing was hard because I was distracted by the coins. I think to some people yes, it may not be a problem but, if it bothers some people and nobody really enjoys it then I don't think it's worth it. TOTORO01 (talk) 21:13, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

Merchant - notes

On the Merchants page in the notes section there is one that says "At the beginning of the night, the Merchant may say "Kosh, kapleck Mog. Oh sorry, that's Klingon for 'Buy something or die.'", when "Buy SOMETHING or die" is actually translated as "vay' Daje'be'chugh vaj blHegh" in Klingon." Just wondering if this is appropriate for the notes? Not really sure what to think of it...TOTORO01 (talk) 00:11, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

(I'm guessing you meant Merchant, so I changed it for you.) I'm not sure if the note should stay, or go under Trivia. It does seem more like a trivia than a note. – Ferretwings (talk) 04:16, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I meant Merchant. Yeah I wasn't sure though, It seems that this is just whoever added the note saying what stuff is in Klingon? Not sure though TOTORO01 (talk) 05:07, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
The question here is what are notes and what is trivia. It is actually not that trivial. In my opinion notes are purely game related and trivia is outside the realm of the game. The Iron Ore has two trivia facts, the first "Iron Ore and Lead Ore are the only ores that don't have corresponding bricks" is more a Note (as it only mentions game facts), as the one below "Real iron is very malleable and susceptible to corrosion, generally making it infeasible for crafting tools. The use of iron in Terraria more closely resembles real-life steel" is good trivia. Along these lines i would put the klingon into the trivia section.
The problem i have with my own definition is, for example the trivia "The Merchant is depicted in a painting called The Merchant." (from the Merchant) should be a note, but it definitely feels more like trivia. Maybe someone has a better definition? (Or it is already defined?) Flisch42 (talk) 14:34, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Trivia is information that doesn't aid gameplay, hence it is "trivial" from a player's perspective, even if it might be of some other interest anyway. Explaining that an NPC's quote might contain a mistake (one that doesn't affect gameplay) is a trivia item. Equazcion (talk) 21:57, 23 Sep 2016 (UTC)
Thank you :-). It is kind of obvious, after you said that. I moved the notes from the merchant to the trivia section. Flisch42 (talk) 22:57, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

New Guide:Getting_Started Videos.

Hey,

I've recently noticed that the videos in the Guide:Getting_Started (which you can find here) are extremely outdated, and people might get confused. Is there any way someone can make some new videos for them?

Yep, thats all. -Brian (talk) 00:13, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Accessory "equipped" images

I noticed that "equipped" images are being added to many accessory pages. Some vanity items also have such images in both male and female variants. I'd like to edit the item infobox to have it add these images automatically, but we need a naming convention. I propose simply adding "male" or "female" to the end of the item name (instead of "(equipped)").

Examples:

Item image Equipped male variant Equipped female variant
Toolbelt.png Toolbelt_male.png
Jungle_Rose.png Jungle_Rose_female.png
Kimono.png Kimono_male.png Kimono_female.png
Treasure Hunter costume
(no base imaage)
Treasure_Hunter_costume_male.png Treasure_Hunter_costume_female.png

Of course, not all equipped accessories will have both male and female variants. Gifs would be acceptable as well.
Any thoughts?    —Ferretwings (talk) 16:30, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

asked a question about thhe mechanic npc

I finally defeated skeletron and explored the dungeon a little bit. I found the mechanic, but before she moved in the game crashed. when the game was restarted, I couldn't find the mechanic. My question is, could she be bound elsewhere in the dungeon, or will it be necessary to beat Skeletron again? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.118.161.146 at 18:50, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

If the game wasn't able to save your progress, you may need to defeat Skeletron again. Has the Clothier moved in? If the Old Man is still at the Dungeon entrance, then you'll definitely need to fight Skeletron again. Ferretwings (talk) 23:08, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

On changed textures

I feel like it makes sense to document the past textures of blocks and items somehow, preferably on the History section. Should this be added? - MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 13:32, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Definitely. Most of the other platforms still have the old sprites. I'd love to include the old sprite in the history as well, but we could end up with 2, 3 or more sprites of each item in our Files. (Do we have a space limit on gamepedia?) One editor came up with the solution of adding a link to the sprite history. For example, the History (for Sunflower)could include the line "Sprite updated (see sprite history for old sprite). -- Ferretwings (talk) 21:01, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Rollback

We now have a new user rights group at Terraria Wiki called "rollback". Rollback is a feature usually reserved for administrators, but many wikis (including Wikipedia) allow assigning the rollback right to ordinary non-admin users, in order to make it easier for them to deal with vandalism. We now have this ability.

Rollback allows users to revert edits, or groups of consecutive edits, with a single click. For those users who have the right, rollback links will appear next to edits in Recent Changes and several other places.

Rollback is only to be used in cases of blatant vandalism, meaning that the user who made the edit likely intended to cause damage to an article. On the other hand, when you disagree with an edit or find it factually inaccurate, while believing the user had good intentions, edit the article as usual or use the "undo" feature.

Rollback is also to be used with care, as a single click can mean substantial changes to an article. Care should especially be exercised on mobile devices, where an errant tap can easily trigger rollbacks. If you make a mistake, simply roll yourself back (rollbacks appear as regular edits in the history of an article), or use "undo".

Rollbackers who repeatedly use this tool carelessly, fail to follow the rules above, or abuse the right in any other way, will likely have their rollback rights revoked.

To start, I've assigned the right to three users based on recommendations from standing admins. If any admins have further recommendations they can feel free to contact me, which is probably something that should be done via email (use the "email this user" link that appears in the sidebar on my user page). The rollback right should be assigned to reasonably established long-term users (>3 months, as a rough baseline) who have been active, been consistently reliable in making smart, mature editing decisions, and have done good work in reverting vandalism.

Thanks to everyone for their work here, and feel free to post any questions or comments below. Equazcion (talk) 18:08, 31 Aug 2016 (UTC)

Terraria: Otherworld

In addition to the very exciting release of Terraria 1.3.3, we now have a dedicated wiki in place for Terraria: Otherworld.

There was some discussion a while ago about including Otherworld information at the main Terraria wiki, but in the end this would have been impractical.

The wiki design at Otherworld Wiki is still in progress, but if anyone wants to create content in the interim, they can go ahead and do so. Any pages or changes users make now will still be there once the design is complete.

Obviously the information on that wiki will have to be based on spoilers released by the developers for the time being, and the rules regarding speculation will have to be pretty relaxed, so go nuts (within reason).

See you there :) Equazcion (talk) 17:17, 9 Sep 2016 (UTC)

Aggro

What is aggro? I'm not simply asking for myself, but for all those Terraria players who have never played WOW. I had never heard of the term before seeing it on this wiki. Searching this wiki returned no info, so I had to google it. Do we know the mechanics behind it, as it pertains to Terraria? Can we dedicate a page to it, as we did Use Time and other game mechanics? The WOW wiki goes into tremendous detail, but I don't know how much of it is relevant to Terraria. It appears to mean "to cause an enemy to target a particular player or minion", or is there more to it? From what I've observed, town NPCs who attack enemies (eg. Slimes who only become hostile when attacked) never receive the aggro, the aggro instead falls onto the (nearest?) player. Is that worded correctly? – Ferretwings (talk) 13:49, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

My understanding is that aggro is a character stat that determines how likely it is for a player to be targeted by whichever enemies happen to be in the vicinity. It's not as prevalent a term in Terraria as it is in some other games, because it doesn't change as often here (and because the term isn't really mentioned in-game). It's mostly affected by a couple tanking and stealth armors (eg. Turtle, Shroomite), and a couple accessory items (Psycho Knife, Flesh Knuckles). Basically anything with "enemies are more/less likely to target you" in their description. There are not very many of them, but I wouldn't object to creating a page revealing whatever can be determined about the mechanic and/or listing the relevant items and their numeric effects on the stat. "is purchased from" vs "can be bought from"

There are areas of the wiki where some of us are trying to standardize/use the same language on all wiki pages. It can be challenging, because sometimes editors can't agree on a wordage. We have several NPC vendors, and their item pages often get edited, changing "purchased" to "bought" and vice versa. Technically, the two words are identical. The main difference is that "purchased" is more formal. In the eyes of the vendor, you are purchasing an item. I prefer the word "purchase", however if you feel differently, now is your chance to share your opinions. – Ferretwings (talk) 14:46, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

I think that saying "is purchased from" is 100% correct if it's the only way to obtain something whereas "can be bought" sounds like there are multiple ways to obtain it. "can be purchased" also works for multiple ways to obtain. TOTORO01 (talk) 02:53, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
So, Ferretwings what's the plan for the Mushroom Spear? TOTORO01 (talk) 04:55, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
Well, I am thinking, if they are both the same, then why bother changing the word? MightyDirtKing (talk) 14:55, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
To establish a "standard". Just as all the "Sprite changed" "Sprite updated" "New sprite" "New texture" and so on in the history section, are all being standardized to "Sprite updated" (I wasn't part of that transition, because I wasn't sure which sounded better... it turns out the game files call the images textures).
I realize it's just a minor thing, but if all pages conform to the same standard, there will be fewer trivial edits (maybe?). I have seen several edits where an editor will edit simply to change "purchased" to "bought" or vice versa. I usually roll my eyes and don't bother undoing the edit. But when it causes an edit war, I cannot ignore it. I will give the editing community some more time to weigh in, but right now, I'm thinking "is purchased from" sounds better than "is bought from". TOTORO01 has a point, using the word "can" implies that it can perhaps be purchased/bought from somebody else. – Ferretwings (talk) 15:29, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
For the sake of the wiki, let just go for "is purchased from". MightyDirtKing (talk) 13:04, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
This can be 2 discussions and maybe we should separate them. The first discussion should be do we want "bought" or "purchased" that is a word choice. The second one is the difference between "can be" and "is", this is a choice between meaning. In most cases "is" is the better choice, as User:TOTORO01 was pointing out (it can only be bought from one vendor and there is no other way to get it -> It is bought from). I am not voting on this, I am just trying to make a point. Flisch42 (talk) 14:16, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
Now my concern is, do we have to standarize all the "buy" things? MightyDirtKing (talk) 09:18, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
"is purchased from" seems like the way to go, for all the reasons stated above. It doesn't seem too dire though, as all forms seem clear and accurate enough, and these types of statements (sentences in the meat of an article) are going to be edited repeatedly by users who won't realize there's any standard.
Standardizing "dropped by" and "purchased from" info might better be served with a new standard section (heading), and/or a new template. But that might be a challenge, due to all the nuances of obtaining certain items.
If someone wants to edit all the current occurrences to try and standardize the language (to "is/are purchased from"), that's fine. At the same time I personally don't think this is a particularly crucial distinction worth enforcing strictly, in case that's the suggestion here. Although if there is an edit war, I'd support defaulting to "is purchased from." Equazcion (talk) 08:05, 24 Sep 2016 (UTC)

arrow/bullet transforming weapons

I think it would be useful to make a page for that, I often need to know that (to know what weapon I need to buy to use my endless musket pouch/quiver), and I think I'm not alone to need thatLightg4 (talk) 17:11, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

If you go to the Endless Musket Pouch and Endless Quiver pages it states that these only work on appropriate guns or bows/repeaters acting as 1. Musket balls or 2. Wooden arrows. TOTORO01 (talk) 23:54, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I know, but theses items are more effective when an arrow/bullet transforming weapon is used. For example, if you use Daedalus Stormbow, it would be a good idea to take strong arrow to deal more damages such as the Cursed Arrow or Holy Arrow, but if you use Shadowflame Bow, due to the transforming of any arrow, the arrows can easily be replaced by Endless Quiver. Lightg4 (talk) 09:24, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Making a "arrow/bullet transforming weapons" page looks inappropriate, because of its name, it doesn't have its official name yet. And how about its content? --IosKent (Talk Page - Contribs) 10:40, 24 September 2016 (UTC)--
May I suggest to use the note section of the endless Quiver/Musket Pouch. We do not really need a page for that, and that seems like a good place for it. Flisch42 (talk) 11:00, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
For the arrows, there are Vulcain Repeater, Hellwing Bow, The Bee's Knees, Molten Fury, Sharanga, Marrow, Ice Bow and Shadowflame Bow
For the bullets, it is slighty different because the arrows are not transformed but a projectile is added(besides the Venus Magnum), there are the Onyx Blaster and the Vortex Beater
Lightg4 (talk) 19:44, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Vanity set and costume sets

Which price should we have labelled in the info box? should it be the whole set cost or the price per piece ( if each piece costs the same amount)? TOTORO01 (talk) 10:14, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

DPS on the page "Guns"

So I just checked the wiki and I noticed this change. http://terraria.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Guns&diff=next&oldid=630043 Should we actually add this change? MightyDirtKing (talk) 13:58, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

I don't have a problem with it. – Ferretwings (talk) 14:05, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
But my problem is, if we have to do DPS, we have to do all. MightyDirtKing (talk) 13:22, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
Well, feel free to add them to all weapons, it's not entirely "necessary", but it's very useful in the end to see which weapon does more DPS, I agree with leaving them. Frenchiveruti (talk) 15:36, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
Would it be DPS for a spray of bullets? When in the spray would it be measured?TOTORO01 (talk) 22:28, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
I believe it is just at a target dummy. Also, there are different bullets. That's why I am worried about adding DPS. MightyDirtKing (talk) 11:51, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
DPS is also not correct term to use as it depends on range from you and target. Is there a proper term for '# of bullets shot in 1 sec * dmg of each bullet?' 5.134.110.61 16:29, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Mobile users needed

The wiki has some conflicting info on informational accessories obtainable by Mobile players. It is a known issue that informational accessories do not function on Mobile, I simply wish to determine if the items are obtainable. I'm hoping Mobile players can help clear up some confusion. From what I have deduced:

Mobile Version Only
Item Source
CompassCompass(Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions) cannot be crafted, and not a drop, therefore it's unobtainable
Depth MeterDepth Meter Cave BatCave Bat (.5% drop chance)
Gold WatchGold Watch(Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions) (all watches) cannot be crafted, and not a drop, therefore it's unobtainable
GPSGPS(Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions) if the Compass and Watch are unobtainable, this cannot be crafted, and not a drop, therefore it's unobtainable
The 1.3.1 update (not yet released on Mobile) added 14 more: Radar, Lifeform Analyzer, Tally Counter, DPS Meter, Stopwatch, Metal Detector, Fisherman's Pocket Guide, Weather Radio, Sextant, R.E.K. 3000, Goblin Tech, Fish Finder, PDA, Cell Phone.

If any of this info is in error, please comment how you have obtained the item. – Ferretwings (talk) 20:31, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

During the first Mobile Christmas update in 2014, some of these would drop from presents. Do they still drop during the Christmas holiday season (December 15–31)? If a Mobile user could change their date between December 15–31, and check on this, that would be great :) – Ferretwings (talk) 20:50, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
All watches currently uncraftable therefore unobtainable on mobile, but does not apply to console. GPS also unobtainable on mobile. I've tested it.
Mobile Version Only
Item Source
ToolbeltToolbelt(Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions) Supposed to be bought from Goblin Tinkerer, but unobtainable on mobile (obtainable on console)
RulerRuler(Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions) Also supposed to be bought from Gob tinker, but nien!

Pretty darn sure when the 1.3.0.1 update is released to the mobile version, all the missing informational accesories. Not sure if they will put it in one big update, though. Probably be multiple patches to introduce all content introduced in the 1.3.0.1 update, just to prevent data overload and memory limitations. Also, I'm pretty sure old-gen devices with less than 16 gigs of memory will not be supported along with iOS 6 & 7 devices from Apple. Apart from that, what you've written is completely correct. Also, during the Christmas update, all enemies capable of dropping items all had a chance to drop presents, and the presents would contain everything they did on the PC version. Trust me, I've opened more than enough to know this. :P LordofEditing (talk) 20:59, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Archiving

Don't you think we should archive some stuff? I mean lately sure there's been a lot of notices on the Community Noticeboard, which is a good thing, but don't you find it annoying when you have to scroll all the way to the bottom of a page just to view a discussion? I find kinda annoying, let me know what you guys think below. All registered users welcome. LordofEditing (talk) 21:04, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Use of alchemy table in placed bottle tool template

If you go to Thread, you'll see that Purple thread says it can be crafted on the Alchemy Table, when in fact, it can only be crafted with the Placed Bottle or alchemy station. Is there a way to remove this, as it is untrue in some cases such as this one.TOTORO01 (talk) 11:08, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Good catch! I can edit the template. I guess I'll call the mobile's crafting station "Alchemy station". Is there an image? Or should I just use the Placed Bottle image? – Ferretwings (talk) 12:44, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
After thinking about it for a bit, it would make more sense to call the pc's crafting station "Alchemy Table", and mobile's crafting station "Placed Bottle". Quite a number of pages for me to edit, lol! But it makes more sense to me, so I will bite the bullet. – Ferretwings (talk) 13:12, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
Okay, sounds good! thanks!TOTORO01 (talk) 13:35, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
However, the placed bottle is available on all versions, not just mobile. I guess the mobile version just calls it the alchemy station?TOTORO01 (talk) 13:39, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
lol, I was just about to say the same! Using "Alchemy Table" as the tool may not be obvious to editors that a Placed Bottle could be used as the crafting station instead. Since all (?) mobile users realize what an Alchemy Station is, I'll use that as the "mobile only" crafting station.
So for all editors reading this, "Placed Bottle" will be the crafting tool for "all version" recipes, and "Alchemy Station" will be for "mobile only" recipes. – Ferretwings (talk) 13:48, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
Okay, I like that idea.TOTORO01 (talk) 13:54, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
Apparently, "Alchemy Station" was already in the template, lol! I should have checked. I need some mobile user advice on whether it should say "Placed Bottle" or "Alchemy Station". Where are the portal guns for iOS?

We are not the game's developers. To address game suggestions or problems, use the official forum instead (where the developers also tend to hang out), at http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?forums/. To respond to your question, iOS gets game updates at a delayed rate. All the mobile versions lack many of the newer features in the desktop version, but most end up in mobile eventually. Shinobi19 (talk), 3DS version

<conversation copied over from my talk page> – Ferretwings (talk)
I can add you. How long have you been playing Terraria on the 3DS? Are you prepared to look up crafting recipes? :D I may ask you to look up crafting recipes from version 1.2.1 or later, to see if it's available on the 3DS. – Ferretwings (talk) 04:20, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
I have had Terraria on 3DS since about February, but have made pretty descent progress.
I am always ready to look up crafting recipes, and have memorized most of them.
1.2.1 has not come out on 3DS yet. 3DS is still in 1.0.3. Shinobi19 (talk) 20:25, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
3DS 1.03 is the equivalent of PC 1.2. I know they have some additional content as well from PC 1.2.4. Have you reached Hardmode yet? – Ferretwings (talk) 22:30, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
I've been in Hardmode for a while. Maybe nearish June? All I know is that I've been in Hardmode a while, and I also have made a another Pre-Hardmode character & world. So if you need data from either, I am happy to help. Also, I have not been on the main page for a while, and did not see the version part of 3DS. I am stuck on Golem though. I just can't beat him! Strange template behaviour

We've been getting some strange template behavior. It could be caused by the sheer volume of edits today. Maybe? The errors seem to clear up pretty quickly. Just hang in there folks, assume your edits are good (most of them are) and give the website some time to catch up, lol! :) – Ferretwings (talk) 15:32, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Merge Tavernkeep's sentry minions

I created Flameburst sentry summons to merge the three Flameburst pages together. I think it might be best to redirect them there, and do something similar for the Lightning Aura weapons etc. They're identical weapons with some varying stats, and there's a lot of repeat info to copy constantly between all these pages. Having a single page for each of the four sentry types would also make it clearer to readers how they relate to each other. Equazcion (talk) 03:11, 20 Nov 2016 (UTC)

I think that's a good idea.TOTORO01 (talk) 03:24, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
I like the idea as well. Another option would have been to create a labeled section for transcluding shared information, but having them all on one page is probably the best way to go. – Ferretwings (talk) 03:45, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the input, and done. Much of the intro info still needs to be repeated on the four pages, so maybe a template might still be an idea. Equazcion (talk) 20:00, 20 Nov 2016 (UTC)

Add Betsy

We need to add Betsy on the front page in the section titled "Bosses" 98.167.215.218 07:57, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Betsy is an event boss, which so far aren't listed as independent boss links on the main page. I think it might be best to leave it as one or the other (either the event link or boss links, but not both), as it might be redundant otherwise, and make the main page unnecessarily long...? Equazcion (talk) 20:00, 20 Nov 2016 (UTC)
But, in all ways isn't Betsy a lot like a normal boss? I haven't checked through the files, but I'm pretty sure that it could be considered a boss, given that it has it's own treasure bag. 98.167.215.218 20:33, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
Good point. Although the Ogre and Dark Mage have unimplemented Treasure Bags, so if we put Betsy on the main page and those other ones ever become things, we might have to re-evaluate what constitutes a boss. Also bosses like Pumpking and Ice Queen seem at least as difficult and drop items about as powerful... regardless of their having no Treasure Bags, I think Betsy alone without those would be inconsistent. Maybe they should all be there. I dunno.
The purpose of the links on the main page is not entirely clear, since people who come here to look up information as they play are going to use the search line or Google. I view the main page as a big advertisement, or for people who want to see a sampling of stuff they might be missing and want to look for. If it were meant to be comprehensive, we wouldn't just have "rare enemies" there.
So um... I'm not sure where that leaves us. Maybe the event bosses should go up there. We just have to keep the page from getting too long. Terraria has lots of stuff. Welcoming opinions below if anybody has. Equazcion (talk) 21:10, 27 Nov 2016 (UTC)
As someone who actually uses the front page, I would not add Betsy (or the other event bosses) to the list of bosses.
I use the front page mostly to have quick access to a few key items (I want to check an NPC, look up a boss or event etc). I am mostly to lazy to type in the search bar or I do not remember the name of what I am searching (or even the correct writing ;-) ). For that I need a clear structure, at which I can find all of the items in the game within a few clicks. Of course one click would be the optimum but searching the on the front page is already a problem and there was a reason why I used "clear structure".
The reason why I would separate event bosses from normal bosses is, that if I want to know something about an event boss, I want also know about the event as the boss is only a part of the event and not the mayor event. In contrast to "normal" bosses, where I concentrate on the boss itself (including the summoning). Betsy is a bit of a special case, because she will only spawn once per event (and drops a loot bag) but she is also part of that event and other monsters spawn beside her, which can destroy the gate.
Another argument could be that bosses and events are part of the progression of the game, but the event bosses are just part of the event.
As already mentioned in my opinion we should not add another ~10 bosses to the front page as the page is already quite full, and the event bosses are easily accessible with only one more click, which in my opinion is ok. Flisch42 (talk) 14:11, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

DD2 armor set bonuses

Perusing the code revealed that the Dark Artist set is just an "alternate" upgraded version of the Apprentice set. The same goes for Monk -> Shinobi, Huntress -> Red Riding, Squire -> Valhalla.

What isn't clear is whether the set bonuses are identical or if the upgraded armors also have upgraded set bonuses. The tooltips on the upgraded sets are pretty general ("greatly enhanced" ... what does that mean?). I don't have access to the complete code yet as I'm on the road and my laptop doesn't handle the decompile well.

Just pointing this out in case someone wants to investigate and update the info on the various armor pages and sentry summon pages (like here etc). Equazcion (talk) 04:00, 21 Nov 2016 (UTC)

Dropped by or dropped from

There are many pages but most of them have different versions of this, I'm wondering if it should be dropped by or dropped from?TOTORO01 (talk) 07:46, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

It should be "dropped by." "Dropped from" tends to mean something different, like when you're dropped from your insurance plan, or when something is dropped from a certain height. When we want to state who dropped something, we're saying who it was "dropped by."
Not the biggest deal in the world, but if I'm already editing a page and see "dropped from," I'll tend to tweak it to "dropped by." Equazcion (talk) 13:09, 21 Nov 2016 (UTC)
Good point. "Dropped from" would probably be best used to describe items obtained from grab bags or smashed Shadow Orbs/Crimson Hearts. – Ferretwings (talk) 13:36, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Okay so "dropped from" could be used to describe something from an object whereas "dropped by" should be used to describe something from a Boss or NPC or something like that?TOTORO01 (talk) 05:38, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Mobile users needed - Pumpkin Moon Medallion

A mobile user recently edited the Pumpkin Moon Medallion page, changing the Pumpkin amount to 10. On the desktop version, it's 30. The editor has made reliable edits before, but still it could be a mistake.

Question: Does the mobile version recipe differ from the desktop version? – Ferretwings (talk) 03:44, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Confirming that it's 30 pumpkins, 5 ectoplasm, and 10 hallowed bars on mobile. Planterra took a bit longer to beat than I anticipated... Shadowsyllvet (talk) 10:32, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you :) – Ferretwings (talk) 13:14, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
My pleasure. You can add me to the table of editors with mobile access if you'd like. I enjoy helping. I also have PC, but I don't do source diving. Shadowsyllvet (talk) 13:21, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Line break between potions

I tried editing the template for the Recipes/Placed_Bottle page to include a line break after each potion. As it stands, the potion ingredients run together and it is difficult to tell where one potion ends and the next begins. None of my attempts were successful. Could someone pleas make them easier to read? Shadowsyllvet (talk) 07:45, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

There is a horizontal line separating each potion, your page must not be loading properly.TOTORO01 (talk) 07:47, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
Think the issue might be that I'm using a TV as a monitor. I can see most line like that but there's nothing there for me this time. Is the line blue or black btw? Shadowsyllvet (talk) 08:13, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I see, it's gray.TOTORO01 (talk) 08:24, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
Shadowsyllvet, I edited your User:Shadowsyllvet/common.css to show you a thicker black line in those recipe listings. You can edit that page and get rid of its one line if you ever want to deactivate this. PS. If you don't see the line, try ctrl-F5 to hard-refresh your browser. Mobile, Xbox, and Playstation users needed - Crate Potion

To my knowledge, the mobile recipe for Crate Potion does NOT contain Deathweed. I this correct? Could a mobile user (and possibly a console user as well) look over the Console/Mobile version recipe for Crate Potion? Thanks :) – Ferretwings (talk) 23:18, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

The recipe on the Wii U version (which should be the same as the other console versions) is

{{crafting recipe | tool = Alchemy Station | item1 = Bottled Water | item2 = Amber | item3 = Waterleaf | item4 = Moonglow | item5 = Shiverthorn | result = Crate Potion }} Eraloiz (talk) 12:46, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

I believe it is correct, as if it is the same on Wii U version, it should be exactly the same. I've also looked through the Mobile version History and have found no evidence of a recipe change that involves adding Deathweed. To my knowledge, I believe Deathweed is not used, but I'll have to check that. LordofEditing (talk) 22:26, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
On mobile it is:

{{crafting recipe | tool = Alchemy Station | item1 = Bottled Water | item2 = Amber | item3 = Deathweed | item4 = Moonglow | result = Crate Potion }} Shadowsyllvet (talk) 00:03, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Hmmm... we may need Xbox and Playstation input as well. :/ Shadowsyllvet, are you iOS, Android Amazon, Android Google, or Windows Phone? – Ferretwings (talk) 04:19, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
Android Google here. Is there any difference between the mobile platforms? I'm aware that Amazon had at least one exclusive item and the coding language might be different. I always assumed the others were straight ports. Shadowsyllvet (talk) 04:24, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
So far, there's been no difference. Still, I like to keep track, just in case. – Ferretwings (talk) 04:31, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Merging Lead and Iron pages

Fellow contributers, would you be in favor of merging the pages for Iron Anvil and Lead Anvil?

Both pages are 98% identical as one item is just an alternative to the other. A similar merge has already been done with the Mythril and Orichalcum Anvils in the Hardmode Anvils page. I took the liberty of doing the work of moving the info from Lead Anvil Page to the Iron one. The edits are currently in stand-by.

You can take a look at the proposed edits here: http://terraria.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Iron_Anvil&diff=653445&oldid=638575

For the new title I would suggest either:

  • Iron/Lead Anvils

or

  • Pre-Hardmode Anvils

In this case should a new page be created and redirect the two old ones to the new one?

--Leonord curse (talk) 16:35, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Probably a good idea. The items are practically identical, and already both get their recipes from the same external list: Recipes/Pre-Hardmode Anvil.
  • Here are the current differences between the Iron and Lead anvil pages: cross-page diff.
I guess "Pre-Hardmode Anvils" is the way to go for the new title, as it follows from Hardmode Anvils. Welcoming any other opinions below. Equazcion (talk) 16:55, 30 Nov 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for posting this in the community noticeboard first, I agree that these two pages should be merged, and that the name should be "pre-hardmode anvils".TOTORO01 (talk) 20:06, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
I agree that we should merge the pages. As with other pages that have similarities, such as the hardmode anvils, and enemy variants such as the Shadow Hammer. What do you think about a merger with all the pages that come under the worm category be merged into one large page? Also, if we have an events page, what's with the separate pages for the events themselves? What do you think? LordofEditing (talk) 20:47, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
I also support this merge, but combining all the event pages is going a bit far, as each event has different enemies that require different play styles. I think the events page is fine as it is. Each event should have it's own page so that tips and special requirements can be listed easily without too much content on one page. Same with the Worms page, I think the small tips and stuff should be kept separate from such a page, but a compilation of all the worm enemies is fine. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 20:57, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
The worms and events should remain separate. Merging the two Anvils makes sense because the two have identical details, and when one needs to be edited currently, those edits need to be replicated on the other page. This is not true for events, or for worms in general.
Actually, and this is going off on a tangent, but I think the current events page has already been taken a bit too far with specific info best left to individual pages. It's best to avoid duplicating specifics on multiple pages, as one or the other becomes out-of-date easily when details change and pages are reworked. The purpose of pages like events is to list them so people can see which events are available, not so they can see what each event contains. They can then refer to individual event pages that interest them, where the details of an event can be maintained in one location. Equazcion (talk) 21:19, 30 Nov 2016 (UTC)
Regarding worms: I think all those enemies differ from each other too much and come up in completelly different situations. If I'm looking up the Destroyer what does it help to see the Crawltipede at the same time? Weapon suggestions and such are also different as they all come up at different phases of the game.
Regarding events: I think events are really big and important subjects that deserve their own pages. --Leonord curse (talk) 07:29, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

As no one had any reason against merging we now have a new page: Pre-Hardmode Anvils. --Leonord curse (talk) 07:29, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Project - Page suggestions

I have the subpage User:Myfinalettempt/Page Suggestions, I don't know if we should have a project page like that with a changed {{/header}} bit also with the how to use list. I just thought about it. Profile|Talk page|Contribs|User information (by Myfinalettempt) 17:16, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Sorry but I don't understand at all what you are talking about. Could you please explain yourself again? --Leonord curse (talk) 17:40, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

I do also play on ps3, I'm going OK with terraria there. Profile|Talk page|Contribs|User information (by Myfinalettempt) 17:18, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

If anybody needs to suggest a page they can do so here, at the community noticeboard. It doesn't happen often enough that we need a separate venue. As for the suggestion that's there... try as I might, I can't see much use in a template that tells people the page they're currently looking at is empty. Unused talk pages generally don't even exist. We'd be creating a lot of pages just to place a notice on them stating that they're empty -- which seems silly, and would add unnecessary complications. Equazcion (talk) 17:45, 1 Dec 2016 (UTC)

Merge Clentaminator and Solution pages

Reasoning: The Solution page is very small, Solution is useless without the Clentaminator, and the Clentaminator is useless without Solution. Obviously leave a redirect behind. Shadowsyllvet (talk) 12:03, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

This actually sounds kind of reasonable. Not long ago I was searching for where to buy clentaminator ammo but I did not remember the name of the ammo so I just went to the clentaminator page. I'm not a fan of merging too much but this might be usefull. --Leonord_cursetalk」 13:37, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
I just did this merge. If anyone has any objections feel free to state them, it can always be undone (if there's a good argument to). Equazcion (talk) 16:56, 4 Dec 2016 (UTC)

New template proposal: Incomplete page and Missing information

Not long ago I did a renewal of the Settings page that had been forgotten for ages. I added all new setting but did not have neither time nor knowledge to write descriptions for all the new stuff so I marked as stub so that people know that the page needs help. Later I learned that the stub was not appropiate for that situation so I was thinking that the wiki lacks a template/tag for pages that are basically missing content or info of stuff that was added in later updates.

Uses of the proposed template/tag:

  • This template would help people find and contribute to update the wiki when we have game updates by looking at the respective category.
  • When an update is released we could add the template to all pages that need updates looking at the changelog so that we don't forget to add that content to the wiki.
  • The tag would be small like the {{source|nocat=yes}} or Verify tags and help signalize small bits of info that are missing on older pages.

I've already made a sketch of how both could look. It can be seen in my sandbox: User:Leonord_curse/Sandbox#Testing new templates The template still lacks an image and I can't decide how the tag should look like. Please feel free to make suggestion by making a copy and pasting with your changes.

What do you people think about this proposal? ----Leonord cursetalk」 13:49, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

I think the {{stub}} template serves its purpose well. Even though it's sort of been overused lately, I think that one category stating that there is missing or incomplete content is enough. The second template you presented below might be useful, but should probably be made less flashy and add content to Category:Article stubs. Here's a possible appearance-
  • This is incomplete content.[Incomplete]
4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 15:57, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
There are definitelly a lot of "stub" articles. I could bet 80% of those are fine already. I imagined with this template something more concrete that tells you exactly that something is missing rather than that the whole page could be improved. By example if new weapons get added would you mark the main weapons page as a stub? The incomplete template could say the reason exactly "1.3.5 ranged weapons missing". --Leonord cursetalk」 16:29, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
This is one of those things that seems logical but might end up hurting. Take into consideration what exactly drives average people to contribute to editing a wiki. Wiki psychology is that people are more likely to want to edit when it makes them feel smart and powerful. Eg: You see an official-looking page with out-of-date info and update it because you think you might be among the first to have realized something was wrong. That makes you feel important. Otherwise you just feel like someone being begged to do volunteer work. "Here's a job for you, please help, this page needs [this] and [this]." "Nah, I'll let someone else do that. Nobody's paying me. Why would I do your work for you?" The stub template is sort of ok 'cause it's more benign and inconspicuous, but even that one still might hurt this way, if to a lesser degree. Equazcion (talk) 19:21, 3 Dec 2016 (UTC)
That is an interesting theory about motivation. Personally I've never felt that way but I see how it could be possible.
The thing is that right now the are no tools to keep track of missing information and preventing abandoned articles. It is also hard to ask other contributors for help as talk pages are mostly ignored. Wikis work best as a hive-mind. No one can go around checking everything but it is really easy if there is a like a pin board where other users have asked for help. If a banner on the top is not a good idea I still support the [Missing info] tag. It is inconspicuous but points precisely to where help is needed and could be tracked easily in the things to do page. I would NOT group it with the stub pages but make a separate category for it. --Leonord cursetalk」 19:54, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Could someone point to a current page where something like this would be useful? Pinging User:Shadowsyllvet as they had a similar suggestion just now at Template talk:Stub.
In my view this would only be useful on new pages created just after updates are released, and those pages tend to get completed soon after anyway. Is there any kind of ongoing need to point out missing info on pages? The only cases I can imagine are for mobile/console info we'll never have, like precise drop rates for mobile/console-exclusive items, which would usually mean the pages would remain tagged forever (we don't have access to mobile/console source code like we do for the desktop versions).
PS. On the "overuse" comment, {{stub}} is basically always applied to new pages when Terraria updates are released, which is why you see them so much. They can probably be removed from nearly all the 1.3.4[.x] pages now. Equazcion (talk) 23:05, 4 Dec 2016 (UTC)
I need specifics on the Flame Trap page. I'd like to make it a stub and say that I need to know if a trap ALWAYS naturally spawns horizontally or if (since the update it can now be reoriented) it sometimes spawns vertically? The text on the page could be clarified. like so:
  • Although naturally generated Flame Traps always spawn in a horizontal position, Players can reorient them in 90° increments using a hammer. (This is noted in the history but not in the article itself)
  • Flame traps generally spawn in a horizontal orientation but rarely spawn vertically.Verify They may also be rotated in 90° increments using a hammer. (I have no idea if this is true or not but would like help finding out)
While I could simply post this on the discussion page, the article itself needs to be expanded on. The stub tag at the top of the page along with a reason will inform the casual user that specific information is needed. Edit: added nocat to verify tag(19:07, 6 December 2016 (UTC)). Shadowsyllvet (talk) 02:55, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Yes, this would be mostly used after updates but we do have other niche templates like: Image requested or Nutshell (lol). Even Source is probably almost never used as this is a videogame wiki. At this point I'm mostly interested on having the tag to replace all the random "?" symbols when something is missing. For examples I know some, just of the pages I've edited lately. Maybe some other users can give others but now that the big work of the update is finished we certainly have fewer examples. Settings missing stuff everywhere; On Fire! see cascade (there is probably similar stuff all over the wiki). --Leonord cursetalk」 23:36, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
I was waiting for other comments but I guess you can go ahead with this if someone wants to start coding it. My only input would be I don't think it should be something that replaces {{stub}}, meaning it shouldn't be made to universally apply to all new pages, but for cases where we need to point out something specific that's missing on a page. Equazcion (talk) 23:02, 5 Dec 2016 (UTC)
I got something up at {{info request}}. It uses DPL to compile everything to Terraria Wiki:Article info requests. Equazcion (talk) 04:42, 6 Dec 2016 (UTC)

Template: Undetailed

Split off from the section above -- Equazcion (talk) 23:02, 5 Dec 2016 (UTC)

Related to the proposal: Another user just created a new template called {{undetailed}}. How is that one different from {{stub}}? --Leonord cursetalk」 18:24, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

It is essentially the same and I pointed the user to this discussion before going any further. I am only not sure to remove the template already. Flisch42 (talk) 18:34, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
It is more likely for pages that don't have much detail, so it is a bit boring to read the page but at the same time useful as you want to know what this thing is. I might need to change up the template to know what I'm talking about. Profile|Talk page|Contribs|User information (by Myfinalettempt) 20:10, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Also I wanted to change the colour of it, this hasn't went pretty good...:
The text is different as it is from my sandbox. I will probably need something like a list of colour codes.Profile|Talk page|Contribs|User information (by Myfinalettempt) 20:38, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
List of color codes. :^) 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 21:23, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
{{undetailed}} did seem to serve the same purpose as {{stub}}, only larger. Meanwhile, there's a reason {{stub}} is small, text-only, and less conspicuous. I've just deleted {{undetailed}} -- and would like to, once again, encourage User:Myfinalettempt to focus on smaller article edits, rather than continue looking for opportunities to create pages. Should duplicate hyperlinks be deleted

So, like the title states, should we only have 1 of any hyperlink to the same page? Like if a page had the hyperlink [[Blocks]] and then a bit down the page the same hyperlink [[Blocks]] is used, should the second one be deleted?TOTORO01 (talk) 22:46, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Links can be repeated on a page. It's only considered "overlinking" if duplicate links are too close together and generally in the same section, such that they distract more than they help.
There's no hard and fast rule, so use your judgment. Leave a link where one would be helpful, remove if a convenient link is already close enough. Generally links can be repeated in separate sections and tables (box templates), and even separate paragraphs, if a section is long enough. Equazcion (talk) 22:57, 5 Dec 2016 (UTC)
You could, except the resulting hyperlink would either be in bold text, or will just redirect you back the page you're on. If you take a look at the Paintings page, you'll see that none of the paintings have hyperlinks on them, as they would just redirect the viewer back to the same page. So you should, or replace them with bold text. LordofEditing (talk) 22:59, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
I'd suggest that it be on a case by case basis. Duplicates in a single paragraph are unnecessary, but in a large page with multiple sections it should be acceptable. You have to remember that you can get to a specific section by hyperlink and completely miss the top of the page. Namely the Summon weapons#Tavernkeep's sentries. Someone may not see(or be interested in) the rest of the page because they followed a redirect. So the armor hyperlink is valid. Shadowsyllvet (talk) 23:01, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Okay, I was thinking the same thing about hyperlinks not being too close together.TOTORO01 (talk) 23:20, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Nutshell

I don't know if this is a good idea but I think {{Nutshell}} deserves it's own category to see what pages have this template. Profile|Talk page|Contribs|User information (by Myfinalettempt) 16:58, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

You can see all pages that use nutshell by clicking on "what links here" under tools on the left navbar. A category would not have any uses as nutshell is not a maintenance template. --Leonord cursetalk」 23:18, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Categorizing Quotes

Moved from Talk:Tax Collector

I like the way the quotes are categorized by NPC. I noticed the Dryad#Quotes wasn't categorized in the same way though. Should the other NPC's be edited to match this? Shadowsyllvet (talk) 18:55, 9 December 2016 (UTC) Edit: Misrepresented which NPC wasn't categorized in the same way, changed the link to point to the Dryad. 19:24, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

I like this too, what about categorizing by every factor? i.e. "in a crimson world only" or "in a corrupt world only" (different wording but something along those lines).TOTORO01 (talk) 19:01, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
Hmm, the majority of the world type quotes only differ by the name of the world. When the quote is unique to that type of world, I'd be in favor of a specific category. Shadowsyllvet (talk) 19:09, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Not true

The Crimson page says it's harder to survive than the Corruption but that doesn't seem to be true as I've tested this and in the Corruption I died and in the Crimson I nearly died but survived. Should this text be changed? Profile|Talk page|Contribs|User information (by Myfinalettempt) 17:40, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

Agreed. While the sentence seems to be based on the stats of the crimson enemies being stronger, the wording seems like an opinion based on assumed data. Shadowsyllvet (talk) 19:03, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
I would just remove that part. Those weakly funded opinion "facts" don't help anyone. --Leonord cursetalk」 20:54, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
I have changed it up. Unfortunately a few bits might not make sense so if you find something that just doesn't stand out to you, be sure to change it. Profile|Talk page|Contribs|User information (by Myfinalettempt) 20:32, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
But this is based on probability, though the data might prove to be right, it all depends on spawning conditions and chances. LordofEditing =(Talk)= 21:01, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
In my experience players do tend to say the crimson is harder but has better gear. But something like that is difficult to verify (especially when at this point some opinions may have been influenced by the wiki saying so for a long time). If we accept that is has better gear though, it does tend to reason that the tradeoff would be that you need the better gear to survive in the harsher environment.
If it's true that Crimson enemies tend to have higher life/damage/defense, that could be stated alone as something verifiable, without the need to point out what "most people think" -- and let the reader decide whether this means the Crimson is more difficult. Equazcion (talk) 21:34, 13 Dec 2016 (UTC)

I have compared Crimson enemies to Corruption enemies and Crimson enemies do tend to be stronger and there are more Crimson enemies than there are Corrupt ones. Now, this doesn't mean that the Corruption can't be stronger, as LordofEditing pointed out, it's based on probability, conditions, spawning, and many other things that cannot be directly compared. The Eater of Worlds has more health but may do less damage than its counterpart, the Brain of Cthulhu, which has less health but does more damage. I think that leaving it as it is right now, and not adding biased information is the way to go. If you feel differently, please comment below.TOTORO01 (talk) 21:35, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

I agree with TOTORO01, for biasing just makes people not want to go there and people start complaining on the forums about how they're missing certain biome exclusive items, and then people start replying to them and everything becomes stuffed up. LordofEditing =(Talk)= 22:11, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Protected Page Changing

As it says on the {{EditMainpage}} page, we want every user to contribute to every page. I've made some subpages that may 'sort that out'. The highlighted bit is what I'm focusing on:

Note: This page is for users to propose changes for the Main Page. The Main Page is a potential target for mass vandalism, however we want every user to be able to contribute to every page.

The thing I've made is a sort of talk page. I've got some preset pages for if this does come to mind:

  1. User:Myfinalettempt/Terraria Wiki:Edit Suggestions
  2. User:Myfinalettempt/Terraria Wiki:Edit Suggestions/Header

The main thing behind this idea is because of that the {{EditMainpage}} says we want every user to be able to contribute to every page and a few pages are protected from users and IP addresses. Profile|Talk page|Contribs|User info - Myfinalettempt 13:50, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

  2. Terraria wiki:Rules
  3. Terraria Wiki:Style Guide
  4. Template:=
In my opinion, if you wanted to propose changes to a protected page, you would use its talk page. The reason the Main Page is an exception to this is because its talk page redirects to the community noticeboard, and a new user who wants to just update the version number may not want to go make a whole post on the noticeboard about it. Also, adding such a template to pages such as Template:= wouldn't be very helpful, as those pages are evasion templates, and nobody would feel the need to change them. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 15:32, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
^ What he said. Suggestions for templates should be posted to their talk pages, as that's part of what talk pages exist for, whether a page is protected or not. An entire "sandbox" copy of a template to illustrate formatting changes can also be posted to its individual talk page. Also, another reason the main page has a permanent draft is because it's a large page with complex code that changes often, and posting sandbox copies of formatting changes would get unmanageable quickly. PS. Since it was asked, here's the list of protected pages: Special:ProtectedPages. Equazcion (talk) 15:42, 21 Dec 2016 (UTC)
