Policy for Public Server listing?

Recently, an IP added a public server, possibly their own, to Server § Public servers. Is there a rule against putting servers there, and if not, is there a policy? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 21:12, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

I think a general rule to go by would be to remove the server if a google search doesn't return anything related to them. A website would also help if they have one set up. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 18:22, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Guide page histories don't have thank links?

I just noticed today that the history page for Guide:Making money doesn't seem to have "thank" links. Other pages and guides have them on their histories. Why is this page different?  ;-) --MentalMouse42 (talk) 16:44, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

ETA: The link dialog offered to make that history link an internal link, and then got it wrong. Unfortunately the obvious fix doesn't seem to work either -- I suspect the software doesn't like arguments in internal links. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 16:49, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
The "thank" links show up for me. Note that they don't show up for edits made by anonymous IP users though; that's by design. Equazcion (talk) 16:55, 11 Jan 2018 (UTC)
Ahh, that'll do it. I wanted to tell 176.193.186.64 that his edits are good, but I really wish he'd get a name already.  ;-) --MentalMouse42 (talk) 11:33, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

New template: Patch notice

I'm testing a new template Template:Patch notice on page 1.2.4.1. Any thoughts? – Ferretwings (talk) 20:45, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

Definitely approve of this template, would it be practical to also add a version equivalents optional param into the template? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 20:50, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Statue List

I just found an interesting Talk Page.: Talk:Statue List. Any thoughts on what should be done since this is from 2012? – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 02:50, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Talk page of something deleted long ago, I've deleted it. Equazcion (talk) 02:55, 13 Jan 2018 (UTC)
Alright. At first, it looked like someone created the Talk Page when there was no main page, but looking at the histories, I see that that is incorrect. Thanks! – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 02:59, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Category:Terraria pet images and Template:Resolved

Just combining these 2 questions

As some of you may have noticed, I made a new category for projectile images of pets, minions, etc. After thinking about it for a bit, I thought the name “Category:Terraria familiar images” would sound better, everyone in support of this? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 21:18, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
Moving it now. If there’s any objections, feel free to help revert. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 14:41, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Apparently the category has 44 files, cancelling move —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 15:28, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
After visiting Wikipedia, I saw their resolved template, would it be a better idea to use this one instead of the current one I made? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 21:18, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Console version and Mobile version exclusive content tables

Based on the recent updates to the exclusivities of the pages in these tables, there anyone who is experienced with tables who can correct their placements? Thanks to all looking into this! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 23:49, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Desktop only content is incorrect.

We play on the Console (PS4) and have picked up many Desktop only items. Can the wiki please be updated to show this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riyalara (talk • contribs) at 15:29, January 22, 2018 (UTC)

The Wiki will be updated soon. Because of how the console version is handled, we are waiting for the XBox One to receive the update because the PS4 and the XBox One with be put together as "New-gen console version." – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 19:33, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

File:Pc only.png and {{desktop icon}}

Are there any editors with sufficient permissions who can change File:Pc only to File:Desktop only in the Desktop icon template? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 16:33, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Done. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 17:35, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Internal errors and 500/502 errors

These may be unrelated, as 500 and 502 errors seem to not happen anymore (but were recent), however Internal errors are popping up (when I wasn’t on my VPN, any checkusers may find this edit was made with VPN), is there a way to fix it? —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 02:38, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Awesome, it posted this time! —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 02:38, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, there have been lots of reports of these errors recently on other wikis as well. They have been reported and are being worked on. Part of it was due to some updates. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 03:04, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

No Chair Crafting Station on Mobile version Mobile version

On the Mobile version Mobile version, where a Work Bench and Chair is usually required for crafting, I only need a Work Bench. Not sure why that is. Any one know? – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 04:32, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Interesting, I’ll just go ahead and confirm so we can have corroborating evidence —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 13:49, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
Nevermind, I thought you meant something else. The chair is only required for Watch crafting, which only exists legitimately in Desktop and Console. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk」 14:20, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
The Chair and Table are for watch crafting. The Chair and Workbench are for Googles and Sunglasses crafting. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 18:29, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

Unused file

Can someone add this GIF (right) to the 1.3.0.1 spoiler archive? -

MusicBox2.gif

107.0.254.97 15:36, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

We don’t usually edit archives, but this was indeed a teaser at the time... I’ll wait for more responses —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 14:33, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
It was there originally but I removed it. It wasn't an in-game graphic, just a promo image for use on the forum. I didn't want people thinking it was something that would appear in the game. Might make for a decent trivia item on the music page if you want, for the historic record, but I wouldn't edit it into the archive. Equazcion (talk) 05:55, 18 Feb 2018 (UTC)

My player is gone

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I'm new to this wiki. But anyways, I started playing Terraria on my tablet, but when I pressed play, it said my player had been created on a newer version of Terraria and could not be loaded. So did my app somehow get DOWNgraded or something? Please help. I had all of my best stuff on me. Crediblemicah (talk) 14:38, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

The correct place to post this would be the forums. In fact, a quick search revealed this post which seems to describe your exact problem. 4e696e6a6f795844 (talk) 14:54, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

Hello terraria wiki community

Hello! I have been inactive for a while, and I would like to "get back in the game" so to speak. I am happy to make GIFs, write pages, or anything else. Thanks, Giga 5 (talk) 00:55, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Animated Images

Hello, I am asking about if I could replace images (when eligible) with animated GIFs instead, and how I could do such a thing. Also, how do I add images to this post? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.80.139.109

We do allow animated gifs in certain circumstances. For animated NPCs, this should be fine, just make sure the gif is for the natural state of the NPC. See Jellyfish for an example. You need to create an account to upload images here. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 01:23, 6 March 2018
As ReedemtheD3ad said, they are allowed. However, not all pages need gifs, but they would be helpful on many of them. To create a gif, I use I program called ScreenToGif which can be used on practically any OS. To get started with gifs, check out the Animations Help page to get started. I created many of the gifs on this wiki, so if you run into any issues, I am happy to help. Giga 5 (talk) 05:01, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
I recommend getting the images from the source of the game directly, rather than from gameplay. It is easier to do that way. The Spriter's Resource site has most of the source images already converted to png and available. Using a program like GIMP with the unstrip plugin, can make them gifs easily. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 06:42, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
I have already made GIFs using photoshop elements, using 'Save to web' from the Spriter's Resource page. 75.80.139.109 00:52, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Hello, I got an account now :D and I am wondering what exactly you mean by the natural state. For example, here is a gif I made of the enchanted sword NPC: Pixelparkourx (talk) 03:09, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
Enchanted Sword (NPC).gif
Great! Glad to have you helping out! By natural state, I meant what the NPC would look like "standing still," i.e. not attacking (like the Jellyfish gifs exclude their shock attack animation) or showing movement animation (like the Baby Slime minion where we only show the "bouncing" animation and exclude the flying animation). What you did with the Enchanted Sword is great (not showing the spinning animation). Make sure to properly license the images you upload (by adding the {{License Terraria source file}}). The best way to make sure files uploaded are properly licensed is using Special:Upload. This way, it prompts you for a license upon uploading saving you the effort of manually adding it instead. I'll go ahead and fix up a couple of things on the new file you uploaded's page to show you what we expect. Thank you again. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 03:49, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
This GIF shows the Enchanted Sword enemy with its pre-1.3.5 sprite, and should be updated. 107.0.254.97 13:40, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
Oops! I'll fix that, sorry.Pixelparkourx (talk) 23:14, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
But wouldn't it be better if there were multiple labeled GIFs? Like having a GIF labeled "Shock Attack" that shows the shock attack. Then you could see more things = more knowledge. Pixelparkourx (talk) 23:16, 9 March 2018 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── If you wanted to upload seperate gifs for showing attacks, I guess that would be fine. The main thing was making sure the images in the infoboxes are conservative. I would put animating the infobox images on a higher priority than the other ones. Thank you for helping out. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 01:47, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of {{Desktop}}, {{Console}}, {{Xbox One}}, {{Xbox 360}}, {{Mobile}}, and {{3DS}}

Since the templates are protected, I’ll just quickly post a deletion proposal here —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 13:26, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

I personally prefer the shortcut templates. It is much more intuitive to use {{Desktop}} than {{Desktop version|short}}. – Ferretwings (talk) 14:03, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
I agree, the only reason I’m proposing deletion is that they are listed as deprecated, and themselves are only a deprecation message like {{Bug}}. —ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 18:45, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

Should we add a screenshots section to mainspace pages where applicable?

I was thinking that a "Gallery" or "Screenshots" section where screenshots of a certain biome/boss/enemy/item are placed? That would be nice to see how the page's subject looks by itself and with players, blocks, etc. Also, it would look cleaner than when screenshots are spread around on the right side. (Like the Minecraft Wiki.) --Creeperlovr (talk) 01:24, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

That would be cool, but the reason that the Minecraft Wiki has the gallery is because you can take a picture of an item/boss/player in minecraft from multiple angles (hence, it is a 3D game) whereas in terraria, there is one fixed view that you can screenshot. So even though a Gallery section would give the page more examples to represent, there is really no practical need. Giga 5 (talk) 19:27, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

Nice point. Sometimes it can be nice to see the relative size of bosses though. P.S. The Underworld has a gallery. You might want to look at it because it does not adhere to the style guide. --Creeperlovr (talk) 15:31, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
There's no real reason we can't put a gallery when it's warranted -- that is, when there are lots of images that don't fit into the explanatory text -- but not just to have "moar pictures". That said, now you have me wondering if someone could make a composite image of bosses, similar to what was done for the jump heights. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 15:50, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

Limit for .gif files used in thumbnails for animation

Hello,

what is the maximum filesize/resolution for a .gif file to be animated as a thumbnail?

Trying to upload a showcase of the item frame duplication to be used in the "cheating" section of Guide:Making_money but my attempt ( https://terraria.gamepedia.com/File:ItemFrameDuplication.gif ) isn't animating in a thumbnail.

iTunes vs App Store vs iOS

Why is it called iTunes when it is called the App Store? People are also more familiar with the term iOS. From what I understand, when people mention iTunes... they usually talk about the music on iOS while they say App Store or even just iOS when talking about the apps. The title here even says App Store. To settle with confusion with just App Store, "App Store (iOS)" could be used. Surafbrov 13:19, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

I have to agree with Surafbrov. In iOS devices there no reference to iTunes anywhere.--Leonord cursetalk」 06:34, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

Time for a new logo for the wiki! Calling for design proposals!

So we were talking about changing the terraria wiki logo because it has been there for quite some time and may need some improvement. The "wiki" text is not really aligned or centered in any way and originally the concept was to make the tree of the background a feature but it also doesn't stand out much. We also wanted to add "official" to the logo somehow.

So we want proposals for a new logo from all editors. You can make small changes to the one we have now or if you are feeling creative make a new design. Let's wait a week, until 28/4 for people to submit proposals and then we can vote. Please upload the logo proposal to some image hosting site (not the wiki) in it's final size of 150x150px and include a small explanation of your concept.

Here are the backgrounds and Logos for you to get you started:

In-game font:

NOTICE: Due to very little interest here, we have worked on a new logo and it has been already uploaded. However, this does not have to be permanent. If anyone does have any suggestions, we would still love to here it! – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 01:52, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
Is the current UI of the site a result of this? Because it looks absolutely awful and plain. --Gourra 14:28, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
No, your browser is probably bugged, since my site (and many others') seem fine. Maybe you went into reading mode? (Ping!)ϟAwesome_Diamondsϟtalk 23:32, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
That, or you are in mobile view (which is pretty bland) – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 03:30, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Seems to be because of mobile view, which is kinda odd since I never toggled it on. Thanks! --Gourra 08:33, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

Terraria freeze glitch

Hi guys, my Terraria keeps glitch in when I get to the dungeon... Do you know how I can fix this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.210.68.130 at 00:40, 25 April 2018

You are better off asking in the forums than the wiki. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 07:44, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

mechanical bosses summon items

yes you still have to build a spawn item, but no, just farm harpies ( PS3 & probably 360 )

I'm not kidding i went to bed for 9 hours & found 2 mechanical eyes ( no joke ) then later I after farming them again ( the initail? purpose was to get money ) for over 2 days I had 5 worms 2 skulls 4 eyes ALL FROM HARPIES of korce? I had to be in hard mode but still ( I also got ( and can still get ) giant harpy feathers before ever reaching hard mode )

now that that is done can we the player obtain expert mode rainbow items with material ( it's O.K. if no ) ( wearable items only ) ( oh & all of them at once though that may be pushing it ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.85.41.112 at 02:17, 11 May 2018

Tone down on the ads?

Howdy there! I'll get straight to the point.

I know you have to make money somehow, and I know ads are a good option, but there are so many ads that it's super laggy, and if I'm trying to use the wiki on the Steam browser it has a very tough time loading. Please see the link below. I've seen up to 500. However, I have not seen any ads when I put off my adblocker, so maybe there's something with the website that's broken? Either way, on very simple pages it's very laggy and my adblocker seems to be blocking a lot of requests, but even when I turn it off, there are no ads visible to me.

Please update the iOS terraria

It’s been a year sines the last update and I think it’s about time there is two different duplication glitches — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.203.7 at 19:35, 21 June 2018

This is a wiki, not a developer feedback page. Creeperlovr (talk) 15:41, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
The 1.3 content update is currently being worked on, but there is no current date other than probably this year. Any further questions on this matter should be directed to the developers on the official forums, not here on the wiki as Creeperlovr stated. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 23:39, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

Clicked hyperlinks blending with regular font (Suggestion)

This probably isn't a problem for everyone based on their screen settings but in my case I am often finding it hard to discern the dark purple(?) hyperlinks that I've clicked on before from the regular black text on the wiki and think the problem would be fixed if it were changed to a lighter color. As noted in my subject line, this is just a suggestion being thrown out here. Thanks for reading.

Is there a Discord for this wiki?

I'm mostly done with a major edit to the Magic Weapons page, but I'd like to talk with some more active and knowledgeable wiki members before I publish it. Specifically, there are a few changes I'm wanting to make that I would also want to implement on the Magic Weapons section of the Weapons page. Mostly organization changes for the latter, but a major (and likely difficult-to-update) overhaul of the former.
Any form of quick communication is fine, but I really hope there's a Discord.

Inaccurate history sections of many pages

It has come to my attention, while doing some maintenance work of some pages (the Souls items to be specific), that many pages have an inaccurate history section, especially pages about 1.1 Hardmode content, where most of them simply have "Mobile-Release: Introduced" in the Mobile subsection of the section. This is not accurate: Mobile Hardmode wasn't available from launch, those were released later. While i don't know the complete and detailed history of Mobile version, this is actually bugging me for a while. Shouldn't we try to give to all pages an accurate history of all, separate, platforms?

If so (which i think we should do), i'm finding this to maybe take too much effort for one person. Basically, what we need to do is to check the changelog for any change made for a specific platform and then check if that change is also in the page in question. You would add it as it's not listed. It's very simple but it wastes a lot of time, as you have to check all the info you need (item name, version number/name...).

What do you think, should we actually list them all, so that those pages would have all hystory related to all platform (and not just Desktop), or just leave them be? - Murrayzero (talk) 20:48, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

It should be noted that in the past, old info was often deleted simply because it didn't pertain to the Desktop version.
I agree that the mobile, console, and 3DS all need accurate histories. Unfortunately, this means going through the history of the page, and the respected platform's version history page. Whenever I come across a history that doesn't look quite right, that's what I do. Quite a task, lol. The console version history page is not entirely accurate, and I've been collecting sources to try to fix that page. I hope to have that page fixed soon. – Ferretwings (talk) 00:30, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Author rewards program

This page is not Terraria-related in any way and sounds like blatant advertising for me. I think it doesn't belong to Terraria wiki and should be deleted. 85.76.69.41 10:25, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

The page in question was added by Curse staff itself, and is related to Curse, the company that launched Gamepedia. It has been discussed before and will not be removed, at least not without approval from those we need approval from, which would likely be Curse staff. --Tymon80 (talk) 13:45, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
Well, could we at least move it to Terraria Wiki:Author rewards program? That way it would be way less confusing for normal readers. 46.132.185.85 14:37, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
After asking some of the other Curse staff, I was informed to make the page a soft redirect to the source of the information. I went ahead and did this. – ReedemtheD3ad! (talk) 23:35, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! 193.210.231.189 04:25, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

A suggestion for money farming

This is nothing major, probably better ways to get money, or maybe even has been looked at and not seen as good but I'm going to suggest anyway. I found this one thing that can give a decent amount of money in a rather short period of time and can be done Pre-Hardmode. What to do is to summon the Eater of Worlds and kill him. He drops 100-150 demonite ore which, at least, can be crafted into 33 Demonite bars. 1 stack of bars sells for 31 gold. Even if you got extremely unlucky, if you only fight nine of these, you can get almost 1 platinum. And the fact that you can summon it pretty easily with just rotten chunks and vile mushrooms (vile powder) makes it even better. I don't know, again, if this actually good but the fact that if your lucky, 7 eater of worlds can give you a platinum in Pre-Hardmode, just seems at least a little good. Anyway, I hope a cite moderator reads this, please tell me if this actually good or not, I would love that. Thanks. Luke wolf44 (talk) 05:33, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

Also, this is on console, PS4 specifically. And I also love the cite, keep up the amazing work, you guys are great. Luke wolf44 (talk) 00:04, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
