Adding 'special seeds' to front page

In the list on the front page of mechanics, it doesn't mention secret world seeds anywhere. But we have a nice hub for them, an infobox, and they're pretty cool. It might be worth adding to one of the areas on the front page. Mathbrush1 (talk) 20:58, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

This really should be done now that in 1.4.4 one of the Achievements is for visiting a Secret Seed. Russ Guss Doodles (talk) 16:52, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

Couple of issues

First off, I'm not sure why on mobile there's a bit of an overflow on the right side of the site, but whatever it is it does make scrolling a bit difficult. See here.

Second, I'm not sure why you dragged the formerly unofficial Spanish wiki here. There is a lot of reminiscence of Fandom there, and I don't know if that is the whole plan here.

In any case, congratulations! -- PanchamBro (talk • contributions) 07:14, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Adding an english translation for the chinese mobile version page

I see no reason to not have a english translation for it, even if it's not relevant for those who speak english.

In case you don't know what i'm talking about, it's this. -- AaadyB (talk) 00:43, 30 March 2022 (MST)

Just like this? Carenstridberg (talk) 02:42, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
Not just like, but definetaly a step in the right direction! AaadyB (talk) 16:17, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

The pet Companion Cube behaviour is also a reference to a GMod addon.

Recently (like, right now) I watched a video of Endy about Garry's Mod Iceberg (the second one he made) and he talks about an addon for GMod that adds a "Perfectly Harmless Compaion Cube". Basicaly it's an Angel statue from Doctor Who, or that SCP that is realy famous : if you don't look at him he teleports, if he's too close while in that state of moving he'll oneshot you by "stabbing you with a knife". (as in play Counter Strike, because you are not facing him the Knife Cut with Right Click one shots) I even have creepy sounds when it enters moving mode, similar to how Companion Cube behaves in Lava in Terraria !

I think ReLogic made a reference to that specific addon for the secret interraction in the dark, as in Terraria, unlike an FPS, as long as there is light you can always see the Cube, so to reference the not seeing it had to be in full darkness.

The Steam Workshop of this addon is from March 19, 2013 tho note that there was other ways to share addons for GMod before the workshop was implemented, just saw the video but I think it would be neat to add that part of the reference wich fits soooooo perfectly with Terraria's Cube behaviour that it deserves to be included ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Néthéris (talk • contribs) at 09:00, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

Time to make different themes from TCF?

Maybe it's time to add new themes as promised? Blazerun19 (talk) 19:35, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

Are the themes ready yet? Blazerun19 (talk) 23:49, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Please have a little patience. Westgrass already explained that this is no easy task. The entire styling codebase was tailored to the layout on Gamepedia/Fandom, so it requires a lot of effort to rework it. You can be sure that as soon as the option to switch to another theme is available, you'll be made aware of it. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 16:31, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
I am a volunteer on Wiki. In real life, the company I worked for went out of business under the brunt of COVID. So it's tough for me right now. I need to spend more time and energy on making a life and/or job hunting. Therefore I have less time for wiki work, although theming project is progressing steadily. But it is a big project, I need to clean up all the css and re-reorganize them to fit the theming mechanism. So far, wiki interface has became fully responsive, and the theme switching mechanism itself is in place. Now I'm focus on cleaning up all css and make them into two different theme skins (Overworld and Hydra) to test theming system and make sure it works fine. The theming system will be released after this work is completed, and other more skins will continue to be developed after then. -- Westgrass (talk) 06:00, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Switch version

Now that Nintendo Switch version Switch is all caught up to Xbox/PS, and DR is doing simultaneous content update releases, is there any reason to keep the Switch version differentiation in {{exclusive}} around? Or can it be disabled? --Eraloiz (talk) 09:14, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

I know this would be hard work but perhaps merge them into a duel icon? Triplefun1 (talk) 16:07, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
That's great news for our icon problem, I'm ok to merge it with the Console icon. I guess a temporary site banner (2 weeks / 1 month-long?) might be a good idea to inform the community of that change. Dinoxel (talk) 16:27, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
Actually, "Console version" used to encompass the Switch entirely. This is even still stated on Terraria#Console version, which apparently hasn't been updated for quite some time: "On this wiki, the Xbox One Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch Nintendo Switch editions are referred to as the "Console version" and will be marked with Console version." So if we can be sure that Switch receives updates together with the others (can we? @Eraloiz you mentioned simultaneous releases and judging by the last two updates that's true, but is there maybe an official statement?), then I don't see a problem with going back to that and simply removing Switch from {{exclusive}}. A sitenotice might be a good idea; perhaps we can combine that with the potential tModLoader changes. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 22:37, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
Here - Terraria 1.4.1 - 1.4.3 Out Now on Console & Mobile! "[...] This has been a new experience for the team - trying to release across 5 platforms at once - and we have learned a lot that we will apply moving forward to make things even more efficient. After all, if we are someday able to pull off Crossplay, this will be the way that all updates will have to work, right?" --Eraloiz (talk) 09:46, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

Version markings/denotations and the overall crowded feeling of icons as a whole.

As one reads through the wiki, you may see several icons denoting platform-exclusive items. Seeing 4 platform icons next to each other is quite awkward and feels somewhat redundant to list all four. It would make more sense just to have 3 icons total—one for the Windows phone, one for Legacy editions, and one for DCMS, or Desktop-console-mobile-switch. This could be pulled off as there are no truly exclusive items between any of the DCMS platforms that could become problematic. As rarely will one find mention of Mods, lighting, or TShock in a vast majority of articles. It would perfect sense to add an icon to denote DCMS content rather than listing all four as individuals. When as we know, they will become one platform after the LOL Update, also known as the Labor of love. Perhaps this may warrant phrasing akin to the Bedrock edition as seen in Minecraft. It would be nice to see one dedicated icon for DCMS and one could hope that a Discussion may be brought to the attention of whoever may be charged with the creation of platform icons.

Have a wonderful day Sallardon (talk) 02:27, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for sharing your thought about this. We are already aware of the icons flood problem as it's been there for a couple of years now. It is planned to have only three icons on the wiki, one for DCMS, one for Old-gen Console, and one for 3DS. And probably an additional fourth one for the tModLoader version as it isn't developed by Re-Logic and won't profit from the Labor of Love update. However, as you mentioned, the DCMS versions don't share the same version yet, so DCMS icons are necessary at the moment. Dinoxel (talk) 16:14, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
I completely agree; think something should be done about this. Maybe make PC (or DCMS) version a priority, and give the rest their own subsections, idk. Also, in some crafting recipes, where current and outdated content is grouped, this can cause confusion, especially for beginners Terrakota (talk) 17:18, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
I hugely second this. I agree with what Stephan208 said here about it probably being hard to program. I think an optimal solution would look something like the version tabs over on the Binding of Isaac: Rebirth wiki (example). When you select a version filter in the upper corner, the entire page reloads with _only_ the relevant information displayed. They have more information on the implementation in their Editing Guidelines page which might be helpful too. Dialog Box (talk) 03:50, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

TModLoader Items (+ eicon replacement)

TModLoader adds a few extra items, such as the April Fools Joke, the Starting Bag, 1 developer vanity, and 10 patreon vanity sets. My question is; Should we document (i.e. make pages for) these items, instead of just putting it on the TModLoader page? The old tmodloader eicon/exclusive indicator has been replaced with a Legacy TModLoader icon, so I can't do much on my own, and that's why i've come here to ask for some opinions on if we should make pages for these or not.

Another question to consider is if we should document the various Unloaded Items/Unloaded Tiles, as those are more dubious and less common to come by than these actual items. Adr451 (talk) 20:18, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

To my mind, we shouldn't document any of tModLoader's own alterations to the game outside of its article. This wiki is still primarily about vanilla Terraria; third-party content usually has its own documentation somewhere else, e.g. on the mods wiki or a separate wiki. In the case of tModLoader, that would be the official wiki on GitHub. The only reason tModLoader is even (for now) part of the {{exclusive}} system here, if I remember correctly, is the considerable size of its playerbase and that it actually constitutes vanilla Terraria in large parts. In my view, the content about the rest, the non-vanilla parts, should be kept as brief as possible here and instead be documented in detail at the more appropriate location, the tModLoader wiki.
In short: In my opinion no extra pages for TML items, rather mention them on tModLoader (at most; if necessary). They're third-party content, so they belong on their third-party wiki. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 00:09, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

Concern with Shimmer being Included as a Crafting Station

Shimmer is in a kind of weird space where it’s used to make new items but doesn’t use the crafting menu. It definitely needs to being included alongside normal crafting recipes but I worry that just having it labeled as ShimmerShimmer(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) could be confusing. It implies that it works like other liquid crafting recipes where you stand next to the liquid and then open the crafting menu. That’s why I think in wiki crafting tables it should instead be labeled as ShimmerShimmer Transmutation(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and directly links to the part of the Shimmer Article that explains how transmutations works. I would do this myself but I’m kinda new to contributing to the Wiki and was wondering what more long term contributors thought of the idea.

Russ Guss Doodles (talk) 7:48, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

ShimmerShimmer Transmutation(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) can be used as the crafting station label I think. BadPiggy1024 (talk) 08:43, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
This could work, but it would require quite literally- replacing every 'Shimmer' tag in recipes/shimmer/register with 'Shimmer Transmutation', and I'm not sure what that would take. Additionally, I'm also not sure how to make a redirect (wiki/Shimmer_Transmutation) redirect to a specific section in an article, so I'll have to figure that out as well. Adding Missing biomes to the Main Page

The Marble CaveMarble Cave(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), Granite CaveGranite Cave(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), GraveyardGraveyard(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), Meteorite biomeMeteor, and Spider CaveSpider Nest are all biomes listed in the Bestiary but are not on the front page of the wiki. It makes sense for biomes listed in the Bestiary like the Hallowed Desert not to be included because it’s a version of the Desert and Hallow but all the biomes above are unique and distinct in the game.

The Aether should also be included even though it’s not in the Bestiary because it has it’s own unique soundtrack, unique NPC’s, and is hard for new players to discover without the wiki. For an icon it can have the Bestiary Rank Light.png star from the bestiary or a lavender colored Ocean Ocean icon to look like a drop of Shimmer. DaggariDagger (talk) 18:46, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

I’ve added the missing biomes to the Main Page Suggestion page. I used the FaelingFaeling(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) sprite instead of your icon ideas for the Aether because I think it looks better. We’ll see what the admins think :) Russ Guss Doodles (talk) 01:12, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Legendary mode and Enemies' info table update

Since Legendary Mode has been recenly officially added to the game can somebody please add Legendary Mode Mob's statistic (Since I don't know how to do this, and which bunny picture is best to describe Legendary Mode). Also I would like that Journey Mode Mob statistics will be added to the Mob's Statistics Table (Not as necessary as Legendary Mode's). It would really help in terms of preparation to boss fights in those difficulties (For example knowing which attacks should you dodge, or you can ignore to have a better chance of dodging more damaging attacks).

Fixed Terrarian (talk) 17:46, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
Hi, "Legendary Mode" is simply a For the worthy (or Get fixed boi) world that is in Master Mode – it is not a new difficulty, but simply a new name for an existing combination. For the worthy has its own stat increases for all enemies (in all three of its modes: "Expert", "Master", and "Legendary"), but these changes are not displayed in every enemy's infobox. That is because For the worthy is a secret world seed; content from these seeds is mentioned in article text at best, but generally stated in detail only on the seed's page. Including stat numbers for all three For the worthy values would not be feasible with our current infobox layout, because there's simply not enough space. Moreover, secret world seeds are a much less prominent feature than Expert and Master Modes.
For the worthy's stat increases do not really change your preparation all that much. The attacks that deal a lot of damage in normal worlds deal likely lethal damage in For the worthy, and the attacks that deal little damage in normal worlds deal substantial damage in For the worthy. If the concrete numbers are of importance to you, then you can calculate them very easily by multiplying the respective normal world Classic/Expert/Master value by the factor that is mentioned in For the worthy's article.
--Rye Greenwood (talk) 00:35, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

What about the Journey mode statistics? I know Journey is super easy, but it still should be accounted for because it's a mode able to be applied to most worlds, not just secret seeds. It's not even an easter egg, so I don't know why it's not included. Meat grammarly (talk) 12:12, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Spawn Rates for mobs?

What if we started putting spawn rates for mobs in infoboxes? The stuff that makes a crimson mimic rarer than a ichor sticker. It would be hard to fit in for common mobs, who spawn in a bunch of biomes, but maybe we could put an "advanced" dropdown more more technical features of mobs, and the mob ID could be moved there. Like the Bloons wiki's popology section that appears in some infoboxes (like this page) if we did go through with it, it would require a lot of datamining, and would take a long time to complete. but I think it would significantly improve the wiki. - TheFlamingX 15:38, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

I feel like that might be a little unnecessary to add. Cytra (talk) 15:51, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately, spawn rates are a very complex topic. It is virtually impossible (with very few exceptions) to compute a single number that represents the chance of an NPC spawning in any given tick. This is because there's a myriad of factors at play that influence spawn rates, some of which are outlined in the NPC spawning article (e.g. section "Choosing a type of enemy to spawn"). It mentions "tile the enemy spawns on", for example – this means that the Ichor Sticker's spawn rate might change depending on whether you have, say, 354 blocks or 355 blocks of Crimstone around you (you can see this in-game with a tool like the "spawn checker" from the Modder's Toolkit). This demonstrates that the way randomness is implemented in Terraria makes it very difficult to document it. Take tree shaking as another example: In and of itself a simple mechanic with a comparably straightforward code, but putting it on the wiki requires this huge table with so much differentiation (e.g. a Dragon Fruit has six different chances, depending on the circumstances). While it sure would be informative to have detailed spawn chances for NPCs, I'm afraid there's currently no feasible solution for that. --Rye Greenwood (talk) 16:04, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

Hive blocks are craftable ( technically )

Hello i've been going through the wiki and have found that in the blocks section under found blocks hive blocks are listed as non craftable but they're also listed under craftable blocks so i am proposing to change that because with the introduction of shimmer hive blocks are now craftable and the found blocks category i assume has yet to be updated.

as i am new to the wiki i do not know if i am allowed to just edit it without asking here. Yua (talk) 11:39, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi, nice catch! I've edited it for you. Removing the Legacy tModLoader version

When the default version of tModLoader changed to 1.4 earlier this year, we had a discussion at Talk:tModLoader about its future in the wiki's version differentiation system. There were no objections to the plan to remove the "1.3 Legacy tModLoader version" from the system once 90% of the active, most popular mods have been ported to 1.4 but no later than December 25, 2022. This date is now fast approaching (and the number of ported popular mods is still at around 76%). However, we have to consider that there will initially be a lot of invalid {{eicons}} and {{eversions}} transclusions in the days following the removal. At the same time, that time of year – the week(s) after Christmas – is traditionally one with high numbers of readers/edits (presumably because people receive Terraria and/or a game console for it as Christmas gifts). Therefore, to avoid having red errors all over the wiki during a busy time, I propose to bring the removal of the Legacy tModLoader version forward to December 15. This should give us enough time to sort out the template errors before Christmas. Thoughts/objections? --Rye Greenwood (talk) 20:53, 4 December 2022 (UTC)
