The Truffle
The Truffle is a Hardmode NPC vendor who sells various mushroom-themed items. He will move in once the following criteria are met:
- There is an available vacant house.
- The vacant house that the Truffle will move into is located in (or near) a surface Glowing Mushroom biome (i.e. one that is above 0 elevation). Surface Glowing Mushroom biomes do not generate naturally and therefore must be manually created. 100 tiles of Mushroom grass and Glowing Mushroom plants are required to create a Glowing Mushroom biome.[1]
Once the Truffle has moved in, he can be reassigned to a house at any elevation, as long as it is in a Glowing Mushroom biome. If he dies, he can only respawn if a house in a surface Glowing Mushroom biome is available again.
When threatened by enemies, the Truffle will release Mushroom Spores, which hover in midair and explode into spore clouds upon contact with enemies.

Shimmered form
When submerged in Shimmer, the Truffle will transform into his Shimmered form. This has no impact on gameplay or dialogue and is only a visual change. He can be returned to his classic look by submerging him in Shimmer again.
Notes
- If other NPCs are waiting to move in, they may move into a Glowing Mushroom biome home before the Truffle can. When attempting to spawn the Truffle, try to make sure enough houses exist for other NPCs that have not yet spawned.
- Having too much Corruption or Crimson beneath the house may invalidate the housing.
- For the Truffle to move in, the house must be in a Glowing Mushroom biome in the Surface or Space layers.
- In don't dig up(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and Get fixed boi(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) seeds, the Truffle's housing requirements are unchanged; a valid house must be in the true Surface or Space layers, not the false "surface" in the Cavern layer.
- Once the Truffle moves in, he can be relocated to a different house, as long as the new house is also in a Glowing Mushroom biome. Trying to move him to an invalid house will result in the status message "This housing does not meet the requirements for a Truffle".
- The Truffle can stay in a house after the Glowing Mushroom biome is destroyed. This can be exploited by creating a Glowing Mushroom biome near all of the other houses and NPCs, having him move in, then destroying the corresponding Glowing Mushroom biome blocks, therefore having all of the NPCs in one place outside of a Glowing Mushroom biome. If the Truffle dies, this must be redone.
- The Truffle is male and has a chance to be teleported by a King Statue.
- Despite his requirement to live in a Glowing Mushroom biome, the Truffle can sell other pylons(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) due to hybrid biomes. The exception to this are the Forest and Cavern Pylons, which are mutually exclusive and only available when not within one of the other biomes.

- Chanterelle refers to several species of edible, warm-colored mushrooms, known for having a mild, peppery taste.
- Cremini is the browned, immature stage of the portobello mushroom widely cultivated in Eurasia and North America.
- Enoki is a thin, white mushroom species native to East Asia and commonly used in Japanese and Chinese cuisine.
- Maitake is a mushroom species that grows at the base of trees and is native to China, North America, and Europe.

- Porcini is an edible mushroom cultivated throughout the Northern Hemisphere known for its versatility in cooking.
- Reishi is a fan-shaped reddish fungus native to East Asia that grows at the base of trees.
- Shiitake is an edible brownish mushroom native to East Asia but is cultivated and consumed globally.
- Shimeji refers to a popular group of edible mushrooms native to East Asia that includes shiitake and enoki mushrooms, among others.
- The name Leinspores is a pun on Leinfors, a former QA team member at Re-Logic, and spores, a particle that fungi use for reproduction.
- The Truffle's eyes and the top of his head glow in the dark.
- The Truffle is often confused as having one eye, despite him having two eyes on the "It Can Talk?!" and "Real Estate Agent" achievement icons, as well as developer confirmation.[2] This confusion stems from the Terraria Jazwares figurine toys.
- The Truffle's defensive weapon, the mushroom spores, has the highest DPS of any NPC.
- He is the only NPC who sways their arms side to side while walking, rather than keeping them bent the way that the other NPCs do.
- He is the only NPC that requires a specific biome to live in.
- The quote "You haven't seen any pigs around here have you? My brother lost his leg to one." is a reference to the historical use of pigs to locate truffles.
- The quote "As if living underground wasn't bad enough, jerks like you come in while I'm sleeping and steal my children." is a reference to players exploring Glowing Mushroom biomes and collecting Glowing Mushrooms.
- The quote "I don't know the 'Truffle Shuffle,' so stop asking!" is a reference to the 1985 American adventure comedy movie The Goonies.
- The quote "I tried to lick myself the other day to see what the big deal was, everything started glowing blue." references the use of magic mushrooms as a recreational drug.
- The quote "Everyone in this town feels a bit off. I woke up to the clothier chewing on my foot last night." implies the Clothier wants to eat the Truffle, further supported by "<Name of Clothier> has tried to eat me so many times. I swear, one time they weren't even human! I, obviously, dislike it."
- This also hints at the Truffle's awareness of the Clothier's former possession by Skeletron.
- The Truffle's Shimmered form makes him look like the Mushrooms found on the surface.
- The
Bestiary entry for the Truffle: "Harnessing the hidden power of the glowing mushroom, the Truffle forges weapons and tools exclusively in his mushroom home."
