Vulgar Display of Flower against a Unicorn and Target Dummies. Notice that the petal projectiles spawn upon minion hits.

The Vulgar Display of Flower is a Hardmode, post-Plantera whip with a tag effect of +9 damage, and it has a 15% multihit penalty. It also has a special effect of marking enemies with volatile energy on hit. When a minion or sentry damages an enemy marked by the Vulgar Display of Flower, 3 violent petals are released which home in on nearby enemies. These petals deal 40 damage, have 50 armor penetration, and do not inflict knockback.

The Vulgar Display of Flower has a 1/8 (12.5%) chance of being dropped by Plantera.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes

  • The volatile energy is only applied to the first enemy hit by each swing and expires after the petals are released from an enemy, meaning the enemy must be tagged again to release more petals.[1]
    • The 9 tag damage still lasts for its usual 4 seconds duration however, and does not immediately expire upon hit.
  • The petals have a lifespan of 2 seconds.[2]
    • After spawning, the petals slowly move outwards for a short time ranging from 0.33 seconds to 0.67 seconds, and only begin homing toward the closest enemy within 21.25 tiles once this duration is over.[3]
    • When the petals are released from an enemy, that enemy is inflicted with 30 local invincibility frames, meaning the petals can not deal damage to it for the first 0.5 seconds after spawning.[4]
  • The petals can move through blocks and are not slowed down by liquids.[2]
