The Water Walking Potion is a buff potion which grants the Water Walking buff when consumed. The buff allows the player to walk on the surface of all liquids (water, lava, honey, and shimmer(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)), and prevents fall damage when falling onto liquid surfaces. The player can sink into liquids by pressing ▼ Down. This lasts for 10 minutes, but can be canceled at any time by right-clicking the icon (Desktop version), by selecting the icon using Cycle Next/Previous Buff and then pressing Remove Buff (Console version), or by double-tapping the buff icon (Mobile version).

In addition to being crafted, Water Walking Potions can be found in pots, chests, and crates.

Tips

  • Despite the description, players are also able to walk on lava without taking damage and without the need for the Obsidian Skin Potion. This makes it a viable alternative to Obsidian Skin Potions when traversing the Underworld, as the ingredients required are generally safer to obtain (though more time-consuming to gather in bulk). Players should still take care when dropping long distances onto lava, as they may find themselves partially submerged and take damage from the lava.
  • This potion can be used to make the Ocean into a makeshift arena, for fights against the Dreadnautilus(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or Duke Fishron, for instance.
  • While Lava Waders (and their upgrade, the Terraspark Boots(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)) partially combine the functionalities of this potion and the Obsidian Skin Potion, they require an additional accessory slot.

Trivia

  • The buff icon appears to depict the Guide.
