Notes
- The biome requirements for the Witch Doctor's shop selections are determined by the location of the player speaking to him, not the location of the Witch Doctor himself. Thus, it technically does not matter what biome the Witch Doctor is in, as long as the player interacting with him is in the correct biome (e.g. Jungle).
Tips
- Players can teleport the Witch Doctor to the Jungle using the King Statue.
Trivia
- A witch doctor is a term for shamans and "wise men" of various traditions, including the European "witch doctor", the African "sangoma", and the Native American "medicine man". It originally referred to one who protects against witchcraft, but contemporary use refers to any folk healer.
- The quote "Which doctor am I? The Witch Doctor am I." plays on the homophone "which/witch". Both sentences sound almost identical but have very different meanings.
- The quote "Rise, zombie! Zombie, arise!" is a reference to the memetically famous "Chicken, Arise" sequence from the adult animated television series Aqua Teen Hunger Force, in which the protagonists recruit the aid of a somewhat dubious witch doctor who uses a similar chant in a protracted effort to resurrect a chicken.
- Many of his quotes contain two sentences that use the same words to play on each other.
- The Witch Doctor is a Lihzahrd, as can be seen by his green skin and tail. This is especially evident by his party quote "I wanted to see how your kind celebrate". This was confirmed by Leinfors on the Terraria forums.[2] It is also mentioned in his Bestiary's entry, and is pointed out in his happiness quote when near the Princess; " Kind to my people, [Name of Princess] is. Much appreciated."
- Unlike the Skeleton Merchant, where Skeletons will not attack it and vice-versa, Lihzahrds will still attack the Witch Doctor (and vice-versa).
- The staff that the Witch Doctor holds may look like a Pygmy Staff, but it is actually a "dreamcatcher", a wooden circle atop a stick, with strings resembling a spiders web and feathers that hang from them. They originate from Native American tribes as protective charms.
- The Bestiary entry for the Witch Doctor: "It's unusual for a Lihzahrd to be outside the Temple. Even more unusual are the voodoo things he sells. He prefers his jungle digs."
