The Featherfall Potion is a buff potion which grants the Featherfall buff when consumed. The buff negates fall damage, and reduces the player's fall speed and gravity by 2/3 (66.67%)[1], allowing them to jump higher and fall slower. This lasts for 10 minutes(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) / 5 minutes(Old-gen console and 3DS versions), but can be canceled at any time by right-clicking the icon (Desktop version), by selecting the icon using Cycle Next/Previous Buff and then pressing Remove Buff (Console version), by selecting the icon and canceling it in the equipment menu (Old-gen console version), by double-tapping the buff icon (Mobile version), or by canceling the buff from the buffs screen (Nintendo 3DS version).

Additionally, when the buff is active, holding the ▼ Down key will revert fall speed and gravity back to normal; holding the ▲ Up key will change the fall speed and gravity reduction percentage to 90%. Due to the reduced gravity, the distance players are knocked back when hit by an attack will also be increased.

The Featherfall buff also works with mounts and minecarts (except the Bee Mount, the buff has no effect on it), and works during reversed gravity.

Notes

  • The Featherfall Potion and the Djinn's Curse are the only items that can prevent fall damage while the Stoned debuff is active.
  • Since the Featherfall Potion and the Djinn's Curse provides the same effect[1], they cannot stack with each other.

Tips

  • The Featherfall buff lets players dodge incoming attacks vertically as well as horizontally with a level of control on par with Wings.
    • Wings allow the player to slow their fall and even fly back up, then hover once their flight time is depleted. By contrast, Featherfall does not allow the player to move up, but does allow them to almost stop falling or move to normal speeds, serving as a permanent and more flexible version of hovering.
    • The buff stacks with wings to allow even greater control and better use of limited flight duration.
  • Featherfall benefits any mobility setup that does not use a flying mount, allowing earlygame players to control their vertical speed without using a double jump and lategame players to get far more range and control with Wings.
  • Featherfall Potions have a long buff duration and their ingredients are easily obtained once the player has a strong enough weapon to kill Harpies, which means players can have enough potions to use them constantly.
  • Slow fall speed makes it easier to place blocks while falling, such as placing platforms on plants or minecart tracks during exploration.
  • With the Featherfall buff, and by holding ▲ Up, use a hook to grapple to an above platform, and releasing the grapple before reaching the grappled location, one may achieve jumping heights of several hundred tiles, which can help the player reach Floating Islands.
