The Fledgling Wings are the only pre-Hardmode wings. Like all wings, they grant the player the ability to fly and glide when equipped, as well as not take fall damage. At top speed, they allow traveling at 15 mph horizontally and 22 mph vertically. They have a flight time of 0.42 seconds and a vertical speed multiplier of 150%.

The Fledgling Wings can be obtained from Skyware Chests on Floating Islands, as well as Sky Crates and Azure Crates from fishing. Journey Mode characters always spawn with a pair of Fledgling Wings.

Notes

  • The Fledgling Wings do not have any horizontal momentum increase, unlike all other wings.

Tips

  • In Journey Mode, the player gets the Fledgling Wings from the start, and they can be worth using all the way up to the Wall of Flesh.
  • It may not be worth the time to obtain the Fledgling Wings, as accessories such as the Spectre Boots and Cloud in a Bottle can provide similar levels of mobility while being much more common.
  • The slow-fall ability can be used to traverse large distances without resetting the flight time. This is especially useful at the time the Fledgling Wings are normally obtained.
  • The more common Lucky Horseshoe, which is also found in Sky Chests and crates, can replicate the functionality of cancelling fall damage.

Trivia

  • The Fledgling Wings possess the lowest vertical flight of all wings in the game, which makes sense as they are the first wings players can obtain.
  • The Fledgling Wings' internal name is CreativeWings, which may refer to the fact that they are obtained instantly in Journey Mode, a game mode with some features built for creative freedom and quality of life.

History

  • Desktop 1.4.4:
    • Fledgling Wings have been removed as a primary drop from Skyware Chests. They now have a 1/40 (2.5%) chance of being secondary loot.
      • Sky Crates have been updated to account for the above changes.
