Loadouts are a feature that allows the player to conveniently and quickly switch between three sets of armor and accessories, as well as the corresponding dyes and vanity/social slots. They are available to players immediately upon character creation and do not need to be unlocked.

Functionality

Items can be equipped into the appropriate slots in the active loadout. The items in the current loadout are replaced by those held in the target loadout when switching. Only the items in the active loadout affect the player's abilities and appearance. Items in the two loadouts not in use remain in the loadout inventory slots — they do not occupy any space in the main inventory. Switching loadouts does not change items in the player's Equipment menu, which include pets, light pets, minecarts, mounts, hooks, and the dyes for each of those.

The extra accessory slots (and accompanying social accessory and dye slots) from using a Demon Heart and/or playing in Master Mode apply to all three loadouts separately.

On the Desktop version Desktop version, loadouts can be switched with the icons at the right side of the Armor Slots. Alternatively, they can be switched by pressing F1, F2, F3, respectively (this can be changed in the settings). These hotkeys work even when the inventory is closed.

Each loadout has its own accessory visibility settings. For example, changing the accessories in loadout 1 to hidden will not affect the visibility of accessories in loadout 2.

The three loadouts are colored differently: green, blue, and red. There is no functional difference between them.

Tips

  • Common loadouts may include:
    • Building and/or mining, e.g. the Hand Of Creation (or its components) and Mining armor
    • Fishing, e.g. the Lavaproof Tackle Bag (or its components), a Fishing Bobber, and Angler armor
      • In Expert Mode, the above may benefit from incorporating the passively attacking accessories (Bone Helm, Volatile Gelatin, and Spore Sac) and/or Royal Gel as mining and angler armor provide minimal combat benefits, and these activities do not take up many accessory slots (especially once the combined accessories mentioned above have been created).
      • Otherwise, summoning accessories can also be used for passive defense, although additional minions will have to be summoned separately if the player switches from a loadout that did not support as many.
    • Combat
      • One can have loadouts for different combat classes, e.g. a ranged loadout to dispose of enemies at a distance and a melee one for when they approach.
      • Another combat class loadout can be used as a backup for magic/ranged when out of mana/ammo (although, for a magic user, appropriate items usually enhance mana regeneration in various ways).
    • Exploration, e.g. movement accessories like wings, Terraspark Boots (or components), Neptune's Shell (or upgrades), etc.
  • Loadouts can be used to rapidly equip armor/accessories that are only needed for a short amount of time.
    • One can switch to a loadout with high-defense armor and accessories (e.g. Worm Scarf or accessories with the modifier Warding) right before getting hit for an immediate damage reduction, before switching back to offensive items.
    • One can switch to a loadout with the Philosopher's Stone or Charm of Myths for the decreased duration of Potion Sickness. Keep in mind that the player needs to equip them for the whole duration to gain the full reduction on time.
    • Switching to a loadout with debuff immunity items (e.g. Ankh Shield) can be used to quickly cancel those debuffs.
    • This does not work well with Summoning armor, since additional minions not supported by the target loadout will disappear.
    • This also does not work as well with Magic armor, since mana above the maximum for the target loadout will disappear and need to be regenerated when switching back, although this usually does not take very long.
  • Switching loadouts does not reset items with activated abilities.
    • Switching to a loadout with wings in midair will only allow the player to glide, and similarly extra jump items cannot be used either until the player lands.
    • Cooldowns such as the Master Ninja Gear's dash are not reset upon switching loadouts.
  • If the player wishes to have multiple loadouts with the same item (e.g. items that boost all kinds of damage like the Destroyer Emblem), they will need multiple copies of that item.
  • Since vanity/social slot items can be switched into the functional slots relatively quickly, by storing armor/accessories in them, one can effectively double the number of loadouts to 6, although at any time 3 of them will be easier access than the others.
    • Loadouts are essentially an extension of the previously existing ability to swap vanity and functional slots. Existing tips on other pages that mention this can often be applied with loadouts instead, including many of the above.
    • In some cases it may be preferable to continue swapping individual armor pieces/accessories this way, which takes longer but offers finer control than changing all of one's armor and accessories at once, avoiding some of the downsides mentioned above.
  • The addition of loadouts indirectly increased the player's inventory capacity for dyes, armor, and accessories.
  • Loadouts cannot be switched while using an item.
  • Since switching loadouts does not change the items in the player's main inventory, the player must still have the appropriate weapons/tools for each loadout on-hand in order to make full use of them.

Trivia

  • Armor, accessories, and dyes equipped by players that were created before loadouts were introduced automatically go into the first loadout.
